Wikipedia F 14 information

Youtube video:

Video showing ROI (Gunners position).

Addon features.

Fully integrated gunners position

fully animated swing wings (not scripted)

animated landing hook

Spec/normal maps

full special effects package (Afterburner, sonic boom and vapour, Special FX by Lethal edited by Gnat and further modified by the Project RACS Mod/Scars)

Modified flight model

Binarized PBO

XEH compatible

Weapon scripts work thanks to namman2

3 x custom textures thanks to EddyD

1 x USN colour scheme

2 x Iranian colour schemes

templates for creating your own textures, again thanks to

EddyD  (download the MLOD version below to test custom skins)

F14 Texture MLOD

Multi weapon loadouts -

CAS – 38 FFAR, cannon, 2 x AIM9 and 4 x AGM65

CAP  - 6 x AIM 54, 2 x Aim9, Cannon

Strike – 5 x GBU12 (LANTIRN system), 2 x Aim9, Cannon  (Bombcat)

Working ROI (Gunner position) target selection etc.

Known issues:

Cockpit textuers need tweaking

Damage textures need completing

Shadow LODs need to be included

Uses standard BIS landing gear, can fold on landing on carrier if too hard a landing (manual landing gear to be implemented)

Wingtips effects do not start from the correct position at low speeds, they are set for the full wing swept back position.

feel the need to go 'topgun'?  download the Lost Brother's Mig29 here:

LOBO Vit's Mig29

I was hoping to include at least one community custom skin for this release, but I will make sure at least one is in the next Beta release in a  month or so time.

With this conversion it brings to end the Opf conversion I'm doing for the moment as I have a pile of work to do to go back and upgrade all the other conversions, including damage textures/binarizing/shadow lods etc.

Please remember this is Beta 1 so it will have bugs please report them below:

I'm aware of the large amount of interest in this addon, at least from the way my in-box has filled up, if anyone can help move this addon on to make it better please let me know.

Please download and have fun.

Haha, I just wrote "I hope we'll see this next week" on the discussion thread for this jet, like 20 sec ago. What are the odds?

Anyways, IT'S OUT! wink_o.gif

Wingtips effects do not start from the correct position at low speeds, they are set for the full wing swept back position.

Both easy enough to fix. (landinggear fix is important for a Carrier based jet and Nimitz available)

For wing tips, adjust the script something like this.

Quote[/b] ] _leftwingemitter setParticleParams ["\Ca\data\ParticleEffects\ROCKETSMOKE\RocketSmoke","","Billboard",1,1.5,[-5.3-(((speed _this)-120)/10),-6.1,-2.94],(velocity _this),1,1.275,1,0.1,[0.5,0.7],[[1,1,1,0.01*_opacity],[1,1,1,0.2*_opacity],[1,1,1,0]],[0],

0.01,0.01,"","",_this];

_rightwingemitter setParticleParams ["\Ca\data\ParticleEffects\ROCKETSMOKE\RocketSmoke","","Billboard",1,1.5,[5.3+(((speed _this)-120)/10),-6.1,-2.94],(velocity _this),1,1.275,1,0.1,[0.5,0.7],[[1,1,1,0.01*_opacity],[1,1,1,0.2*_opacity],[1,1,1,0]],[0],

0.01,0.01,"","",_this];

Comments thus far;

- A little sluggish to roll etc

- Cockpit textures are semi-transparent

- Afterburner script seem too powerful

- Still way to many individual textures for ArmA, but I guess it works because the model is low-poly.

Otherwise, nice work Southy.

Thanks Gnat I appreciate the advice.

We did have manual landing gear working for a time, but I had to redo the whole config, so it was left out for a bit, it will be in Beta 2.

Also thanks for the wingtip FX advice I'll implement that for the next Beta.

This has by far been the hardest conversion, lots of little things to get right.

I just noticed that one of the lights are a bit off.

f14lightyp6.jpg

I'm lovin' the jet, though. I've been flying it for hours wink_o.gif

Roll is a bit slow though, could use a slight increase ( but no too much)

Awesome conversion, can't wait for this sweetie to get to version 1.00

Nice work mate!

It's probably (OK definitely) nit-picking, but as far as I can tell from internet land, the F-14 never carried six AIM-54s, according to Wikipedia anyway.

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next version!

a lot of the info for weapon loadouts was taken from the net as well, i found this:

Armament

Guns: 1× 20 mm (0.787 in) M61 Vulcan Gatling Gun

Hardpoints: 8 total: 6× under-fuselage & 2× on wing gloves with a capacity of 13,000 lb (5,900 kg) of fuel and ordnance,

Missiles:

Air-to-air missiles: AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-54 Phoenix, AIM-7 Sparrow, AIM-9 Sidewinder

Loading configurations:

2× AIM-9 + 6× AIM-54

2× AIM-9 + 2× AIM-54 + 3× AIM-7/AIM-120 (Most common loadout)

2× AIM-9 + 4× AIM-54 + 2× AIM-7/AIM-120

2× AIM-9 + 6× AIM-7/AIM-120

4× AIM-9 + 4× AIM-54

4× AIM-9 + 4× AIM-7/AIM-120

Bombs:

JDAM Precision-guided munition (PGMs)

Paveway series of Laser guided bombs

Mk 80 series of unguided iron bombs

Mk 20 Rockeye II

Others:

LITENING targeting pod or

2× 267 US gallon drop tanks for extended range/loitering time

We have a sparrow model in the pack so we can make a more varied versions for the next Beta.

I think the F14 'could' carry 6 aim54, but in pratice it probably never did, I'll most likely replace the current cap 2 x aim9 6 x aim54 with 2 x aim9, 4 x aim54 and 2 x aim7.

We have a while before the next beta so I can chop and change a few things, looks like one of them is fixing that light!

I have seen shots where the AIM-54 was carried in groups of six, and fired from six hardpoints; but the only reason that it wasn't seen regularly, is that carrying six would put the F-14's total weight above it's maximum landing weight - even with zero fuel.

a minimum of two missiles would have to be jettisoned (or fired) to bring it back into limits - hence why the most usually seen on a cat was four.

that's not saying, however, if there were a mission where a tomcat was expected to fire at least two aim-54's that it couldn't be loaded in a 'six shooter' configuration.

I found this on the F-14 page at Wikipedia

Quote[/b] ]The maximum load of six Phoenix missiles was never used operationally. Although early testing proved it was possible, there was never a threat requirement to engage six hostile targets simultaneously, and the load was too heavy to recover aboard an aircraft carrier.

Easy for me to say when I don't have to make a new Sparrow model to replace the Phoenix biggrin_o.gif

I have seen pictures of F-14s with 6 Phoenix, but apparently they are just done for promotional/press photo shoots. I guess the F-14 could land on a runway with that weight, but not on a carrier.

Not a big deal of course. Looking forward to next release.

latest in from wikipedia:

Quote[/b] ]Retirement

The F-14 has completed its retirement from US Naval service. At one point, it was slated to remain in service through at least 2008, but all F-14A and F-14B airframes had already been retired, and the last two squadrons, the VF-31 Tomcatters and the VF-213 Black Lions, both flying the "D" models, arrived for their last fly-in at Naval Air Station Oceana on 10 March 2006.[28]

Latest reports indicate at least 25 F14's were secretly shipped to the Royal Sahrani Airforce, it is believed they are fully maintained and ready to respond to any threats at a moments notice.
