The project i'm most excited of is this:

http://www.rkslstudios.info/project....-system

are you still actively working on it? (i don't want to increase the pressure with this question!wink_o.gif

At this moment in time I'm working on two projects. I'm preparing the Cargo system for public Beta along with at least one large MP test mission, probably Warfare. But given the amount of time required to develop this stuff, I haven’t played any MP missions for over a year. So familiarizing myself with Warfare’s game play and underlying scripts takes time. I'm not a mission editor.

The second project is the RKSL Core system scripts. The system scripts are central to all the other sub-systems; such as the Cargo, UAV and FCSS systems e.t.c So it’s pointless working on anything else until the beta proves itself in game.

Once the Cargo and System scripts are released for public beta testing, I can start on the other projects. So far I only have the Desert Hawk addon. So if the Rapiers aren't available before the release of the public beta. I will probably work on the Desert Hawk. I will make a start on the Rapiers at some point. But I prefer to work on one project at time, so I'm afraid it's first come first served.

I would suggest you just make a very basic test mission than rather than trying to tie the system into a complex game mode like Warfare.

There's plenty of mission editors that would love to take your Cargo System and tie it into Warfare or whatever else and are already familiar with those systems. No need for you to stress yourself trying to relearn all new things, let the community do that for you. biggrin_o.gif

We couldn't write the Cargo System as well as you are, but we can adapt it. Also purely personally, I hate Warfare. smile_o.gif hehe

I believe the purpose of placing the script in a large mission like warfare or evolution is to stress test how well an MP environment can handle the script on a large scale; with people moving many supply objects across the map, in many different types of vehicle. Warfare offers a good platform for logistics scenarios that'll encourage people to attempt to use the cargo scripts.

Integrating it perfectly into these missions for its gameplay value is not UNN's key intention for the demo mission. However, some editing of the core mission may be required to ensure that people use the cargo system rather than only using the support scripts that already exist in that game mode.

Da12thmonkey is spot on.  Its all about stress testing the system not about that actual mission its in.

You have to realise that the “RKSL Cargo System†is not something you need to script into a mission.  It’s an addon that just works like any other addon.  You don’t need to add complex hooks into your missions to use it!  You drop it in your addon folder and place the appropriate crates and vehicles in the mission like you would for any other mission and save it.  Then just go play.  There is nothing else you need to do.  Its the most easy to use "scripted system" I've ever used.

Actually when its released we’d prefer that people don’t adapt it on their own.  It just causes too many compatibility issues that way.  Different versions floating around causes chaos and confusion.  What we would like people to do is bring their ideas and changes directly to us so we can work with the community to improve the stability of the system and that way we won’t end up in the same situation we have already had with other addons and scripts.

Please cooperate with us and take a responsible approach to addon making.  Its only going to improve things for everyone.

Second that!

Also. it helps me anticipate how people go about writing missions. I've already done a basic conversion of EVO. But I decided to halt it for the time being, as EVO has very specific requirements designed to encourage COOP play. They can come at a later date, with more input from EVO regulars.

But it still proved very useful in highlighting some aspects of the system that need to be made more robust. Custom respawn being one, EVO uses a variety of respawn’s, other than the default ARMA method.

i seem to recall that there were going to be two versions of this addon - an addon version, and a script based version (without visuals, but 'with no addon dependencies' ).

does that mean the 'script based system' version of the cargo system is no longer planned for release?

No it's stll planned and is already implemented to a certain extent. You could just extract the scripts from the pbo.

Only it probably won't be supported fully in the first beta release. So far the only issue is saving a game half way through the loading and unloading process. If thats easily solved, then the script version will follow soon after.

...Since the site went live on Saturday, 6 days ago ive had 32 emails all along the lines of...

Why not get rid of that contact form on your site? It makes it easy for the hoards of idiots to spam you.

Anyone who has something serious to say can get your email address and email you or send a PM on the forums.

I don't know if that form validates the emails somehow to make sure they are real, if it does you can do some nasty things for revenge whistle.gif

Mainly because the idiots form only about 5% of the emails we get. And the contact form has been great for people that don’t like forums. In the past despite the recent abuse its been invaluable.

Like Messiah pointed out, they're still working on the C-130s, Rock's just been a bit too busy to add all the project pages to the site as of yet.

The AC-130 was dropped from the RKSL C-130 project though, so no dice.

As Messiah and Da12 correctly said, and I've previously said we've dropped the AC-130 for a variety of reasons ranging from the technical to gameplay.

The SAR ones are only used domestically in the UK, normally to rescue stranded civilians. They're not for CSAR or anything where they'll be shot at; hence why they're yellow.

I think the RAF uses Merlin HC.3As for CSAR.

Rock, do the RN still operate their Sea King HAR.5 rescue helicopters?

I don’t understand the question?  Are you asking does the winch work? Or which will be finished first?

Da12 is right the HAR3 is used only within the UK national boundaries.  They are purely for use in civil areas.  They are originally intended as a means of rescue for British military aircrew operating around the UK but they justify their expenditure by supporting the UK Coastguard and RNLI services.

The UK doesn’t have a regular CSAR force.  The term used these days is JPR (Join Personnel Recovery).  The RAF has been fighting for a proper CSAR unit since ’89.  They started fielding specially trained teams in 1990.  And they began operations in the run up to the first Gulf war using Puma HC2 and Chinooks, supported by a SAR-G (search and Rescue-Ground) Team, now called a Ground Extraction Force (GEF) Drawn from the RAF Regiment.

The modern teams now operating in Iraq and Afghanistan are drawn from all the services and use appropriately trained crews serving in the area. Helicopters are drawn on detachment basis from key squadrons in theatre and can include Seakings, Pumas, Chinooks and Merlins. Although there were rumours that the HC3A Merlin would be tasked for dedicated Special Operations and CSAR roles in Afghanistan when they finally deploy in 2009. One thing to remember is that unlike other nations the UK’s JPR teams aren’t solely tasked to CSAR they perform regular duties on top of the JPR tasking.

Rock, do the RN still operate their Sea King HAR.5 rescue helicopters?

As far as I am aware there are no HAR.5s flying anymore.  All the airframes were retired and replaced by HU.5 and converted HAS6 in 2003.  I could be wrong though; RN kit isn’t really my forte.  I don’t have many contacts in the FAA.

I probably meant HU.5 rather than HAR.5.

Seems I was reading something along similar lines to you regarding Merlin UKSF and CSAR roles. However, there have been rumours to that effect ever since the formation of SFSG; saying that the Rockapes in the unit are tasked with CSAR and FAC.

Well i think the HU5 are being stood down in 2010 and being replaced with civilian contractors and possibly AW149s!

That would make sense since 33 Squadron's E flight (?) has been tasked with “High Value Asset Recovery" since the late 99(again another vague date), which is to all intents and purposes CSAR until the recent JPR recovery. All the GEF lads in that flight are drawn from 2 & 3 Squadron RAF Regiment. And most tend to be drawn from the specialised skill sets.
