certainly not, but the media portraid it as if it would be.

I have certainly not seen any such portraits in the media i typicaly read. What i've read where usually rather in depth analysis of the different factors that lead to the murders. I hope you didn't read BILD* on that day Nephilim.

sdoc, no i dont read bild :P

i was speaking of some tv/news show cuts a while back when columbine happend (if i remember correctly), where people blames MM for the whole thing, same as what happend in erfurt, they blamed CS, or rather CS having an influence on that guy, that lead to the killings.

Quote[/b] ]if we refrain from doing something some of us want to do, as we worry about our reputation, we would give away our freedom. If we worry about our reputation in media with only idiots and uneducated as recipients we would have a serious problem with our self respect.

this is of course correct.

but several moralists put fps games on the same level as eg child-porn or whatever booboo..

some people like it and take it as their freedon to watch it, which of course is NOT!

thing is is do we really really need that in a game?

maybe im grown old of this i dont know, but i certainly dont want guts flying all over my screen just for shit n jiggles..

Well as long as it not an "gore" or "bloodshed" or "blood splash & splatter" addon/mod and people don't speak about fun if they play ArmA with kind of "torture missions"....

Mostly games are in the news during election campaigns or nothing else is worth to write for editorial board and staff.

I personaly don't need gore and guts, and i don't care a lot about it. But if some mod maker wants to do it: Let him. The reasons for doing it can be so many, and it doesn't need to be just from or for lolz kids.

Game developers usually don't elaborate on gore as it does not make the game more entertaining and they get a lot of problems. For the same reason they don't implement Sex. We don't have this economic harness.

I have a suggestion for another modification, Vomit. A very large part of soldiers in combat do it. It is stress related.

Something i really would like to see implemented in much detail is surrendering. This is a very important aspect in any war, it put's the player in a positin where he has to decide ethicaly and it turns the game from a stupid kill everything that runs towards you into something people have to think. And think afterwards.

ps.: good that you haven't taken offense on the BILD comment, as it wasn't meant as one.

pps.: There's only one thing to say about the Hot Coffee scandal:

Sex is Good

I always find it particularly amusing when colleagues of mine such as Einsena come to a discussion forum to plea with us to stop discussing.

I think this conversation is actually quite good. It's civil, it's complicated but not dry, and there are a lot of good points being made.

@Nephilim

Perhaps ArmA would get some media exposure if it was found in the library of a kid who perpetrated a high school massacre, or if moralists decided to make ArmA + @uberhax0rbloodmod+++ their outrage of the week. My point is that the franchise would not suffer very much. The game is already a mature game, and the parents and vendors who are actually going to take the time to regulate ArmA's consumption by children should already be keeping it out of the hands of children. Furthermore, there are already much more graphic video games out there that seem to escape being hurt by bad press. SOF 2 will likely reign supreme as the most graphically violent video game ever for quite some time. Despite being kind of a piss poor game, it saw good sales and was ported to consoles. Manhunt, which I enjoyed quite a lot, was exceedingly violent. Not only was it violent, but it had characters spouting white supremest slogans. Now they have a sequel out on the wii where you can use the 3d controllers to really feel like you're chopping, stabbing, slashing, and ripping your way through degenerate gangs hired to murder you.

I expect this addon would be entirely possible - most likely as a replacement model addon. So the soldier model is erased, and replaced with several partial models. You would need different skins for all the different soldiers & addons etc. A lot of work, and never ending smile_o.gif unless a genius can code an addon capable of identifying which texture to use each time automatically & UVing it right in script.

Myself I'm not too interested in a gib addon, unnecessary in my view however I know people's tastes are all different. I was a big advocate of the spurting blood addon (now in SIX_Sense pack 1) because that has an actual ingame use.

The only other similar addon I would be interested in is a dropped/thrown rifle addon similar to an OFP one I have, where a running soldier would drop or fling his weapon upon being shot. A very small detail maybe but having to occasionally scramble about in the grass for a weapon instead of knowing that all bodies WILL have one is one of those little game enhancers IMO smile_o.gif

good sir, could you point me to where i've ever pleaded to anyone to stop discussing. what i've posted is simply the most viable and valid solution to all the nay sayers. i admit it's a bit of a thread killer don't like it don't use it and your DRAMA fear won't come true!

like it will change ArmA altogether, it will soil it's image(yea right), the media will ban ArmA, ArmA bla bla bla, paranoid bunch.

again don't like it, don't use it! icon_rolleyes.gif

O WAI- OH GAWD! i've been sucked into the DRAMA VORTEX! EJECT EJECT EJECT! einsena bailing out! goodnight.gif

don't like it don't use it! simple.

if you don't like it then don't use it!

"Turn a blind eye" because it will not effect you in any way, if you don't use it.

"Look the other way" because you won't see it anyway, if you don't use it.

"None of your business" because it doesn't seem like you'll use it anyway. oh and don't use it!

or are you saying that because you don't like it everyone else should too? now that's just wrong.

Don't put words in my mouth. Repetitively adding the same comment over and over like you've done is rather insulting as well. Incase you haven't noticed this is a forum.

For those of us with an IQ less than 9, and Einsena, you may want to pay attention here, I'll make the definition available so you understand it:

Quote[/b] ]Forum: A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper, a radio or television program, or a website.

In a way though your posts are kind of comforting. There's always the guy that signed up on the forums like yesterday, that comes in asserting his BS ideology and ranting and raving...this usually means we're about ten posts(nine including this one) away from seeing the thread locked.

Getting out my old anthropology course here but our freedom i already restrained by social values. Horror films and books have an established place in the minds of the people but videogames are not. Most don't even understand or don't even want to understand what happens there. I have a friend that even fears playing a game without having played one, while enjoying books of all sorts.

I won't debate about what happened i german TV that made very bad light on videogames. And on top of it done by government financed series. It was shameless and unbelievable.

Because people do not accept to take an objective POV to analyse what the game desgners do to build their own opinion, it is strongly advised to video gamers to proof ethical values, morale and maturity in order to be free of any attackable surface.

how i can understand that some people might have negative opinons or effects on a gore mod for ArmA. Only way i see it hitting the news was if the mod was made to be very cruel, like eg capturing the wounded soldier then cutting off his head or his fingers and etc and torturing him. Im not saying the gore mod should be realistic and cruel as possible im stating im very interested if someone is making one where you see limbs flying off in a explosion like a trooper hitting a mine? Personally i think theres more things to worry about then putting personal attacks on games. Blaming video games is a very stupid idea anyway. Soldier of Fortune Series is very unrealistic gore game i own SOF2 and yes its fun but its no where that cruel as you would suppose so. I havent seen anyone complain about it anyway. Only way id see if the developers for ArmA did the same thing that happened with hot coffee for GTA SA. Honestly theres more things people should be worrying and complaining about than one thing that effects them in a game.

Personally right now i could say i dislike the fact that alot of games portray Russians as some kind of evil bad country and alot of games do that, i find do find that offensive but i dont shove it in peoples faces by complaining about it. So what do i do i simply ignore it and as i loved OFP and sure the russians were bad in it but i simply tried not to take notice of it and continued playing.

If people going to complain about a gore mod then why dont everyone start complain about other things the games portray. Games are only made for entertainment and i can understand that some people out there get effected by it and that people who play these games should be aware of that but should never actually want see that happening real life.

People who dislike gore mods should just avoid them and not even consider touching or looking at them. Yes everyone is different and has their views but just i see it as unfair if one person complained and then ruined it for over thousands of people.

If a gore mod does release for ArmA i hope that stupid US lawyer Jack Thompson doesnt start attacking the ArmA developers. Anyway its not the developers to blame and no one to blame i personally feel anyone should be able to create whatever they wish aslong as isnt to over the top and too cruel for the community.

This thread wins at stupidity - people comparing Hot Coffee (which just unlocked a feature made by Rockstar, i repeat: HOT COFFEE UNLOCKS A FEATURE MADE BY ROCKSTAR), with a MOD made for ArmA.

Now... Did BIS make a limb dismemberment system and locked it away? No they didnt. The situations are completely different, BIS cant be liable for what the community makes for the game. Just as as a news site aren't liable for the comments made by its users.

Besides its only the American politicians and Jack Thompson that would complain about it anyways nener.gif

And I was saying that it doesn't matter if BIS makes one in the way that Rockstar screwed up or if the community makes it entirely independent of BIS, the net effect is still the same in the media's ignorant eyes.

@dotted : Of course, arguing with your inept lack of ability in either reading comprehension or logic illustrates my point that people chose to read into what they chose to.

Case in point, Columbine. id never made a Columbine High School map, nor would ever. But the community did. Who got the blame? Not the guy who made it, id got the blame for 'facilitating' the production of terrorist tools.

well my opinion is that if there would be gore/dismemberment mod i would definatly love it. it makes you feel great especialy vs enemy players and not the AI. I would fit into zombie missions etc. If you get shot bu 7.62 its most definate that your going to loose a part of your body. Also when hit by a rocket you never "fly"

And as for everything else related to violence thats all crap. Its a game its fun and more reallistic to have gore. You dont kill people in real life and if a video games makes you think you kill then you are sick.

Guns dont kill, people with guns kill thats all i have to say.

Sure it would bring a degree of realism if done reasonably but a 7.62 round most probably won't make you loose anything. Tho i am no expert.

I think an addon like this would make the game a lot better due to the realism factor and would help portray what soldiers go through on the battlefield. However, I dont think it should be as graphic a SoF.

A 7.62 WILL leave a mark, but if you think that such small round will chop off a member you are very wrong. Maybe a part of the hand, but nothing else.

I'd like too see a thing as such, but I somehow doubt it will happen due to the amount of work required to achieve it. If it is done though, it needs to be done right, so when somebody gets cut in half, i know it was a 30mm from a BMP2's cannon, rather than some silly AK47.

Almost impossible to carry out such a precise Fx with so many requirements, unless you would assign a specific ammo to the nature of 'effect' to be enabled, which means that 'custom' ammo/weapons values will not be taken into consideration.

And the higher the constraint will be, the harder this feature will become to achieve.

I actually suggest to stick to the system offered by Solus in the SLX MOD and further enhance it by including 'additional' body parts during the dismemberment process, enhance the textures of wounds and make them become more authentic.

People being against this feature obviously have valid reasons and of course they can easily switch it off in SLX_GL3.

TB

i think a gore mod will be great.

i prevent us to forget the real cruelety of war.

most of the war games trivialize war and let the people forget that war is a very bloddy business.

try "merciless matador" for call of duty 2, ok it is a little bit "overgored" but it puts back in mind how cruel the nature of war in reality is. as i played it i thought "holy shit!" and remembered a story my grandpa telled me as i was a kid.

he was on the eastern front line and became order to man a forward observation point. he followed this order with fear, because forward observation is very close to the enemy. he took some men and leave the trenchline, sneak to the observation post.

some minutes later the russians started a heavy "stalinorgel", rocket artillery barrage.

as he and his men come back to their trenches he told me "first i thought they ran away, it was early in the morning and not much light. but then i see were they are - they are hanging all around us, the torn apart bodys were hanging on the trench walls"

his whole unit get killed in this long artellerie barrage, he and his two men where the only ones who survived this, because of this order to go on the observation outpost. he was totally shocked, he started to vomit and to cry because THAT was not a very nice sight to behold. he dreamed very often about that.

some of the dead "men" where nearly untrained kids from the "hitlerjugend" - hitleryouth. to see this kids dying for nothing, for a lost war, for some crazy fuck-ups like hitler and the other criminals, that gave him the rest

i think a gore mod keeps that in mind, how cruel war is and makes us more crititcal to the reality and the politicans who send the soldiers often very careless into real war.

i makes a war-game to an anti-war-game.

I'm not even going to read all the posts here because I know it will just piss me off because every time theres a gore and limb discussion all these people come out with liberal views and denouce the creation of any such thing. But I for one am totally in favor of further creation of some type of mod because it does in fact bring a sense of realism. And the fact is, its just fun as fuck to launch a tow missile at a target and visibly see the explosion and limbs fly. Its a video game for crying out loud. And a military simulator at that! So if you want realism... you'll see limbs and gore man. And stop talking like you know shit because you sit on your ass in a nice cozy life and tap into ArmA for your fix of combat. But back on topic. SLX's version is good but it has not been updated since OFP. The same charred torso, hands and feet models. Their good but it'd be nice for an updated better textured model. Thats my two sense.

RO has gore & dismemberment, its also highly regarded as one of the most realistic war games created. Why would ArmA, which strives for realism in a war scenario, be any worse off depiciting realistic combat?

If can't stomach gore, then don't use the mod. Simple.
