FFUR'85 (2008 edition)

I will fix the link on the FFUR website ASAP.

Regarding the bug fixes, here is a list of what has been done so far:

+ Decreased the size of the grass by 72% = [better visual field, More realistic Grass].

+ Disabled a large part of AI maneuvers = [Missions are more stable + Less framerate Hit] (Special thanks to Solus).

+ Fixed the CWC'85 First Mission's bug when the truck was stopped by trees.

+ Fixed the 4th Mission (As the blackhawk was unable to fly over troops before being shot by the Hind).

+ Fixed SpetsNatz Soldiers hands.

+ Fixed the gear of the MIG-21, now it retracts rather well.

+ The USSR Repair truck is no more listed as Ammo.

+ Fixed the radar on the Shilka.

+ The Mig-21 is more "player friendly" in terms of manoeuvrability.

+ Put back the crosshairs.

+ Included a new Ironsight for the RPD.

+ Fixed the RPK-74 firing mode (Now Uses Full Auto Mode as well).

+ Fixed the annoying error messages : "Error alive: TypeArray, expected Object!" .

+ Renamed the M60A2 to A3 as the A2 carries missiles.

+ For the Cobra it says Hellfire, although it should fire TOW.

+ Renamed the Su-22 to Su-17M4 and the ZSU-23-4 to ZSU-23-4M3.

With Sanctuary's support, we are working like crazy to figure out the "invalid crew" issue, and hope to fix it soon.

Vektorbosen is doing an amazing work on his own and we hope to see his great US Models released soon.

Regarding the sounds issue, here I recorded a little movie showing a firefight (1st Mission of Retaliation Campaign) with the new SFX (You can also spot the M16 and M60 at the end), your opinion would be greatly appreciated for further enhancements.

[*]Increased the Supersonic Crack SFX level (Inspired by FAMM MOD 1.41 for ArmA).

[*]New SFX for the most used firearms (AK-74, M16A2, M60).

I find the M21 SFX rather well, and I bet I'm not the only one to be thinking the same thing.

However, the M21 ironsight has been improved a lot (Looks smoother now).

Edit: And good news, Sanctuary has successfully figured out the "Invalid Crew" issue that usually occurs with "Ground Attack II" mission and fixed it.

yeah, but the M240 was only a crew served weapon system on the M1a1 for the loader, the the coxail gun, they didn't use the M240B till the late 90s, was M60 for the 80s, the Saw was just staring to be issued to only infantry units in the mid to late 80s Ranger units had SAW like systems chambered in 7.62mm M76 machine guns that later were replaced by the M240, M240 mostly came out in large numbers just really late 90s. hell the 508th 82nd Abn here use both still, they have M60s and M240s, my unit still has M60s but we didn't field them for this mission, kinda kicking ourselves now for it.

Confirmed pictures of SF in "Cold War" eighties are rare i know. Sorry but i wouldn't like to see them with other BDU's in combat. Don't want extra "bulls eye" on their back/head wink_o.gif Some backpack features like i mentioned above(other page) and imho SF units ok. Don't know if you have this RACK in shortlist: RACK

most sf and ranger operators dressed like normal infantrymen. MOLL wasn't really used till the 90s, other than having some articals and personal equipment that was modified to sf/ranger sop.

Large number of the even contimued wearing the nam era tropical uniforms, slant pocket summer weight od green uniforms, with modified od patrol caps, usally made but a tailor off post, cats eyes sewn to the back. hat tab on the fron, or boonie caps. Woodland buds evetually replaced them, then the jacket was getting modded with the relocation of the bottom pockets to the sleeves, so the jacket tails could be tucked in and the use of reppeling gear better. The design is now in the ACU uniform worn today. That was also done a lot in country durring nam.

Thanks for the informations and pictures, it's true that it's hard like hell to grab US SF photos in eighties, but as they almost used the same equipment than US Army regular troops, I will just modifie their Arm patches and give them Boonies instead of Helmets, maybe equip them with backpacks as well, if you have any information regarding the sort of backpacks used before '85 by the US Army then it would be really helpful.

Regarding the patch progress:

+ Included a retex (Olive Grab) Hemmt. (Thanks to Vektorbosen).

+ Included the "M2A1 Bradley [Olive Grab]" instead of the M2A2.

+ Replaced BIS Malden textures by Symbiot 1024x1024 'High-Quality' textures, with no framerate hit at all.

I've Visual Distance at 4km and the topographic info. at Low....now the game has a lot of FPS...sometings it goes under 20fps but I see it is playable at 100% now!

Why remove the M2A2 , It was introduced and produced in 1988 so it fits the 80's time period but saying that will there be M3 (m3a1 , m3a2)series of the bradley's ?. Would also love to see m113a3.

Please keep in mind that the MOD is mainly related to the original theme which takes place in 1985.

Good to hear, and I have better news: The framerate hit would be 30% lower with the incoming patch as several AI maneuver scripts would be disabled, therefore missions will be very stable, and you would barely notice that maneuvers are disabled since the AI will still act realistically.

I've a question about that, how did you edit the maneuvers, what files like.

Add the following line to the top of the maneuver scripts:

?(SLX_NoManeuver>0):exit

The maneuver scripts are bounding_overwatch.sqs, travel.sqs, and slx_defend.sqs then add "SLX_NoManeuver=1;" to the SLX_GL3_Settings.sqf file in your MOD folder and the maneuvers should be disabled.

Well, WGL textures look close to symbiot work in terms of details, textures brightness and landscape colors even if symbiot's are 1024x1024, therefore, WGL textures would be implemented instead of Eden and Cain BIS 2001 old tex's.

I would like to inform you that I'm working on adding grass everywhere on OFP's islands in order to give them a little touch of realism.

I must admit that the first thing that hit me a couple of years ago when I played the first time OFP was the lack of grass compared to Ghost Recon.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

Unlike with ArmA grass, you would be able to hide from AI if you go prone.

There would be 2 patches though:

- 1 patch that fixes all bugs and enhances the gameplay (Grass feature...etc).

- 2nd patch that replaces US vehicles by Vektorbosen incoming models.

Thanks for answering my question but if you say the mod focuses on 1985 theme then why is the BTR-80 included (it only entered service in 1986) so maybe you can please for those cold war fanatics extend it to 1989 or 1990 ?.

Also a quick question are the soviet apc and tank crews replaced by the RHS soviet ones (those ones are excellent) and will there be russian marines and vdv (sorry havent downloaded FFUR-85-SLX yet , waiting for patch)?

This is just amazing words to hear n' great pack of soft to play with, i'm wainting for 1.5 patch n' that model replacement pack as well. Its one of the hottest release of the beginning of 2008. I've got everything awaiting those files to play OFP one more time smile_o.gif

PS. Grass idea looks very promising smile_o.gif

PS2. Is there (anywhere) a easy-to-use/install sky-replacement for use with ffur ?

I remember in Sled88's Oblivion Jungle Mod the grass was so tick that you could not see a prone OPFOR (Rus). Judging from the screen shots that shouldn't be the case here, but to be albe to hide from AI would be cool. Great potential for a real sniper situation thumbs-up.gif

Hi Thunderbird. Finally played the mod and I must say it is terrific but I noted quite a few things that need to be looked at.

1. T-55A has GDR logo (rebels) and the optics on it arent the same when you are in gunner (v) as in the rhs t-55.

2. It would also be more appropriate for rebels to have a T-54.

3. The rebel T-62 should be a T-62A not a T-62 FIA FOX/BEAR.

4. Lack of different shell types for tanks etc... (why remove the different shell types etc.... ?)

5. Rebel dshk gunner is USSR not Rebel.

6. Need pin sound after throwing grenades , and different grenade types for all sides.

7. Russian heavy AT should be RPG-29 (if timeis extended up to 1989 and 1990).

8. Russian RPG-7 should infact be RPG-7V

9. Rebel RPK ?

10. SVD/M21 for Rebel Sniper.

11. G36 did not exist in 1980's (entered service in 1995)

12. Rebel BMP-1 crew is russian along with t-72a , and t-80u (rebel models)

13. US Black Ops should use AK-74 not AK-47 or at least AKM.

14. Rebel AK-47 should be AKM.

15. OH-58 is infact OH-58D Kiowa Warrior.

16. M72 Law reloading on black ops (at) and for us army at soldier it looks weird because whenever you want to reload the m72 law he takes out the assault rifle or main weapon then switches very quickly back to the m72 law and reloads it there.

17. Riflemen mortar (american) has 2 reload stanag 5.56mm options under action menu.

18. Spetsnaz machinegunner(and light machinegunner) cannot establish machinegun position.

19. Bomb camera for laser guided bombs/missiles (use footmunch script from mig-27 for su-24 etc...)

20. Crash on Soviet/Russian anti tank specialist

21. Officers for all sides. Soviet ones need makarov pm and spetsnaz need APS.

22. Soviet crew commanders ?

23. Soviet crews should have AKMS or AKS-74 not AK-74SU.

24. NSV for Russia.

Thats basically it. Other than those above suggestions I congratulate you on a fine piece of work.

Edit:if you want to replace BTR-80 use the BTR-70 (sea demon or either fdf)

It would be taken out then and maybe replaced by another soviet vehicle that fits with the theme, as I was persuaded that it entred in service before '85 whereas this happened in the late '80s.

Yes.

Better don't install any extra sky-pack as the MOD has its own which includes necessary textures and models that have to be installed to ensure the MOD works as wanted.

(This is automatically done when the MOD is launched, though).

Edit:but definitely the BMP-1 should be the BMP-1P and there should be versions w/wo sideskirts for the BMP-1P and BMP-2.

Also there is a soviet infantry afghan war era (desert) could you implement it(made by Psykke) ? also OFPCAT and BUDULAY were working on some great soviet era troops maybe you could contact them and implement it in FFUR-85-SLX. Also where is the music for FFUR-85-2008 located (found only menu song) ? and please give the resistance ZSU-57-2 and ZSU-23-4M Beryusa.

Edit: agree with no railgunner extend the theme/timeline to 1990 at least so that BTR-80 , BMD-3 etc... can get used.

Also TOKAREV is WW2 , Makarov PM and APS were the main cold war pistols.

Looks promising, keep an eye on roads, streets grass won't grow there except on infrequent used dirt roads/forest trail wink_o.gif

btw i think you working at FFUR85 ~1985 +/- 5 years (not more than 10years difference)? The basic variant BTR-80 8x8 would fit but not the enlarged and improved version BTR-90.
