Pain-less 0 Posted April 20, 2007 GameSpy has a preview review on ArmA. Overall I see the reviewer liked it. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/armed-assault/782075p1.html
max power 21 Posted April 21, 2007 Haha.. I read the title and I thought for a second that it was given a score of 4 / 19. I thought that that sounded a little low / arbitrary!
Pain-less 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Sorry about that. I wanted to make sure the preview review was dated.
Shadow NX 1 Posted April 21, 2007 "This is the first game I've played that realistically recreates the sound of being shot at. It's not like it is in the movies. All those crazy sound effects you get in your typical Hollywood blockbuster are "beefed up" to make for a larger than life experience. 5.56mm rifle rounds passing over your head actually make little popping sounds similar to small firecrackers. What you're hearing is little sonic booms." I guess this ends the arguing about the cracker sounds at least...

Heatseeker 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Quote[/b] ]Armed Assault is a labor of love and it shows. This is an incredibly ambitious game. The graphics aren't exceptional, but the engine does have its moments. He was doing well untill that last part... i mean one could complain about the damage model or the physics but the graphics? Game is beautyfull and graphically advanced .

dirtylarrygb 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Agreed! The shadows at night!! Do people review these games on 486 pc's? Not graphicaly advanced. DOh! Nice one reviewer, now back on your console. As for voice acting, its a text to speech engine fool.

Staos 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Please. Text-to-speech isn't anywhere NEAR that advanced as an actual human speaking, which is what ArmA uses.
BadBone 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Well, i had not played much with the 105 version due to performance being poor on my 8800 gts being bottlenecked by an old p4 3.0. But being told i should try the beta patch from someone on these forums,i did, and the game plays much better now! Ive even managed to top the score board a few times on Bezerks hold 31-61 player maps You dont need to read preview.......game is freaking awsome....and will only get better
-Puma- 2 Posted April 21, 2007 Quote[/b] ]No health packs are found and one bullet is all it takes to end your game. Also, there are only fixed save points, so forget about saving anytime you want. I bring this up because the exact same issues are here in Armed Assault, untouched and intact. I know there are gamers who will be overjoyed about this, but I believe that having this high level of realism is too unforgiving for many players, which is too bad because there are so many great ideas here theres no medic pacs..... and theres cadet mode where he would have get to save whenever. If he had just spent some time with the game, and not just play couple of missions, and tossed it into the corner

Scrub 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Quote[/b] ]The level of attention to detail in Armed Assault is enough to satisfy even the most anal and hardcore military buff. Never visited these ball-buster forums has he? Â Quote[/b] ]It featured huge maps that were more than 100 kilometers across Just a bit off, but the meaning is proper. Quote[/b] ]That sound is here in Armed Assault and it sounds exactly as I remember it. This is a small detail, but it just shows how far the development team is willing to go for the sake of realism. One of the best compliments I've yet read. For it being in a niche market, I'd say this is high praise for ArmA. Edit: Nice one Dallas!
AWDrift 0 Posted April 21, 2007 I don't agree with the "too realistic for casual gamers" part. Anyone who's in the market for simulation games knows that it comes with the territory. So I don't see why it would be listed. You might as well say that Mario Kart is much to arcadey for racing sim fans.

Yeah i know your point, but the mainstream of people who play 'war games' end up playing BF2 and crap like that, so they buy ArmA thinking it will be similar. Boy are they in for a shock when mapmakers implement Kronzky's Anti Teamkill script

Unless you mean some flight simulator? Arma is one of the most realistic looking games i ever played. And graphically its a very advanced game, there are things that could have been made better but i think BIS got the graphics spot on .
