One word "HEAT". My sons laptop had all kinds of issues with fps while running Valve games. Turns out his laptop was retaining too much heat. Got him one of those stands that has a fan built in, solved his fps problems.

I just recently completed all the training missions and the campaign recently on version 1.18. I can't say I have experienced any of the problems you are having. I am on XP The only issue I have is in Warfare, where an "options" dialog pops up on screen randomly, but that is being looked into, as Dwarden was able re-create the problem and let the appropriate people know.

Try turning the Terrain Detail to low. Its gets rid of the wavy grass and increases your frames.

If it works on 1.14, I would stop there. 1.18 is RC at the moment and not final. Although having said that, I am running 1.18 without issue except for a little bug in Warfare that is currently being addressed.

Did you follow the upgrade path correctly? Reading your post it looks as if you went from 1.08 to 1.18. Or did you go from 1.08 to 1.14, then to 1.18?

As graphic technology moves forward, so does shadows, but at a price, horsepower. ARMA is not alone with poor performing shadows, it's the nature of the beast. As for OFP2, I don't know anything about how that game is put together. They could have cut something from somewhere else to help out with the shadows. Did you ever play Soldner? Great game but the maps were so huge everything came to a crawl because of its total destructible landscape. It was murder pushing all the data upstream to the other online clients playing the game. If a bridge was destroyed somewhere on the map, everybody was getting the data, whether you were anywhere near the bridge or not. You may have never known it was ever there.

Doubtful...shadows are frame killers in everything. Even sim racing, where I'm usually found.

I can't say I had any problems installing 1.18, and it works just great. As for your rollback? I don't think you can do that. You will have to un-install and re-install the game then patch to where you want it to be.

Is this so? I tried the demo yesterday, am getting roughly 15 fps on my old Alienware P4. The original Arma runs at about 30 fps. Will the 1.05 version get close to that in fps?
