benreeper 0 Posted February 23, 2007 I'm in the US and I received the UK copy on Tuesday after ordering it on Friday. The first thing I did was mess around in the editor. The controls are not a direct port of OFP's so I was put off at first and I had a lot of "why did they do this?" questions floating in my head. Later I created a mission with 3 helis full of troopers and a convoy of 12 vehicles and troopers converging on a city. What can I say about the way it played out but WOW!. Three helicopters circling the city and not once did they crash into each other and the UH60's side gunners actually scored some kills. The controls work for me now and feel better than OFP's; also the graphics are unbelievable. There are issues in the game that I would like resolved but, call me a fanboy, I enjoy the game now immensely more than it's predecessor: I also think that the experience will only get better. Bravo BIS. --Ben
maddogx 13 Posted February 23, 2007 I second that. Call me a fanboy but this game has true potential.
anthonye 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Glad to see you are getting into the editor. I am having a hard time with it through the total lack of of instructions anywhere other than the pathetic manual which does not go into any of the commands for using it. I tried a very simple mission using the refueller truck to get to me when I asked for support. It does say that it will then move off to other units when asked for, well it does not, even after selecting done from the command menu. I see scripting mentioned throughout the forums, but nothing mentions in the manual or at the main site on how to do it. Great game but total lacking on info, frustrating Anthony (UK)

Just kidding  jealous because don't have the full game yet But I agree, it took time before the demo grew on me. At first I played SP a few times and didn't really get into opting for ofp's excellent ffur/slx. But after playing countless hours of Arma demo on-line, I really started to appreciate how fun this game is. Now, wanting to improve my skillz, I play SP in a different light. can't wait to get my hands on that editor, as the campaign sounds less than goundbreaking. Re-re-reordering... Mr Sarkey 0 Posted February 23, 2007 That's Mr Murray's editing guide I think. Only in German at the moment.
Jack-UK 0 Posted February 23, 2007 http://www.ofpec.com/ <--- Great site for OFP editing.. and theres very little difference, except diff units and scripting commands (which can be found at the BIS Wiki page as posted somewhere above my post) And yep, once you play with ArmA a bit, you get used to it and you wont know how you lived without it EDIT: hehe sorry psycosmos :P
psycosmos 0 Posted February 23, 2007 You can also learn allot (especially the basics) from OFP Editing guides, there are differences, but the basics are mostly the same, that worked well for me. Edit: damn it, Jack-UK, wait two minutes next time
EricM 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Quote[/b] ]^^ I'm assuming you guys haven't heard of this. I did. The best part is that you can learn ARMA and GERMAN at the same time !!!! Though, Mr Murray told that he was thinking of an english version. Not 100% official, but it seemed in the pipeline...

shataan 1 Posted February 23, 2007 Why you lucky lucky bastages!!! Many of us are waiting for the N American release. Please feel free to make more threads like this 1. :0)
Jack-UK 0 Posted February 24, 2007 Hey you could always get the UK version shipped across I've spoken to a couple of American's already in the 505 Version... only thing is that there arent any/many American servers up yet!
MamiyaOtaru 1 Posted February 26, 2007 Later I created a mission with 3 helis full of troopers and a convoy of 12 vehicles and troopers converging on a city.  What can I say about the way it played out but WOW!.  Three helicopters circling the city and not once did they crash into each other and the UH60's side gunners actually scored some kills. So I have to know something.  Friend of mine has 1.04 (still waiting to get it, I'm leaning toward waiting for the 1.05 patch).  Anyway, I brought over a mission I had made in 1.02 to try in 1.04.  Bluefor attacking a city with helicopters buzzing around overhead.  All the Opfor ran off!  Around 30 of them gathered in a cluster under the roof at the gas station   Destroying that took out half the resistance.  Tried putting some Opfor infantry in the oilfields and buzzed some helicopters overhead.  Again, the infantry took shelter at the nearest gas station, in Cayo. Taking cover is cool, but at a gas station?  It almost makes more sense than hanging out in the bare desert, but leaving the buildings in the middle of Paraiso to hide in a gas station is just weird.  Doesn't happen to me in 1.02.  So I'm curious if you've seen anything like it  **edit nearest gas station, not newest

benreeper 0 Posted February 26, 2007 No I haven't seen the overuse of cover, in fact whenever I was pinned down, they always finished me off. --Ben

That was really funny I've seen AI take cover quite often. I've noticed a large difference in casualties by simply adding empty civilian vehicles about the map. The AI is quite good at bouncing from cover to cover. I have also witnessed the AI using lightpost blocks as cover.
MamiyaOtaru 1 Posted February 26, 2007 They do use cover, all right, but something is a bit off. I used to have a fun mission assaulting Paraiso.  Threw in some helis for atmosphere (and occasional potshots and frequent ramming of the cathedral tower wtf). Now though, on my mate's 1.04, the objective is no longer to take the town, but to assault the gas station.  It'd just be weird and quirky if they didn't all stand in a mass and look like something out of The Thing http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=petrolcrowd1gz8.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=petrolcrowd2ut9.jpg Of course, it isn't always a gas station, or with helicopters around.  Bluefor in the process of mounting an assault managed to form this 12 headed beast: http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=groupingeq4.jpg It's all very wtf  (and thanks BIS for disallowing picture.th.jpg so I can't use imageshack thumbnails heh. Corkey 0 Posted February 26, 2007 Benreeper, where did you buy the UK version and how was it shipped to you? Right now I am considering buying ARMA from sprocket or gamesplanet, however, owning a hardcopy is much more preferable buying a direct install version.
