Armed Assault videos

Recommended Posts

I created this video in the hopes that some of the ArmA community might find it useful in giving them the basic idea of how to deal with a fast insertion or extraction with the MH-6 Littlebird. It's a bit over five minutes long, and covers various considerations that must be made before, during, and after any MH-6 insertion/extraction.

http://ofp.umbr.net/videos/arma_mh6_training.wmv

If the response is positive, I'm considering doing more training videos in the future.

Anyhow... enjoy. smile_o.gif

Update: Here's the Google Video version.

very damn nice and good flying.

more would be appreciated as Arma's flight for heli's has got me hooked.

some theory of helis would b good as well on things that help get a good grip on the basics.

great video, but has one main flaw: its way too short smile_o.gif

anyway, I'm really interested in : what joystick you are using, what "joystick sensitivity parameters" you are using?

and more, yes I want to see more videos like that, I suggest some video with rules of engagement (AH6 vs infantry, AH6 vs light vehicle, AH6 vs armoured)

Heh, sorry. I tried to keep it fairly concise, since it's the first one of its sort that I've done.

Quote[/b] ]anyway, I'm really interested in : what joystick you are using, what "joystick sensitivity parameters" you are using?

I actually don't use a joystick. There was one video I made where I was using one (showing off low-altitude, high-speed LB flight), but after that I gave the mouse another shot and found it to allow more precise flying in almost all situations. There are some drawbacks to it - minor ones, really - but all in all, for my purposes, I find it to be the ideal control method.

I'll keep that in mind. Not too sure if I want to do another helo vid... I like the idea of doing videos with my group (Shack Tactical), but that would require us to have transitioned fully over to ArmA, and as of now that hasn't happened. We'll have to wait and see what develops.

I would also love to do some training videos of Wargames League for ArmA once it's out, so I might save some of my ideas for that. We'll see. smile_o.gif

Dude, I consider myself a fairly developed Armed Assault pilot, and I must say your skills are excellent, not to mention that great video. Nice work there. Loving the victory rolls too - I often chuck them when piloting my teammates back home - scares the crap out of human players sitting on the benches.

I love Dyslecxi, I'm very glad you're also a tester for Insurgency, that will be my Armed Assault surrogate untill ArmA gets optimized and once I have enough money to buy it :P

Very good video. Almost made me drop my infantry-fanaticism and start to play with helicopters instead. tounge2.gif

Excellent video all around- composition, transitions, pace and most of all, content! More please, more! Vids like this will place a very professional image in the minds of the viewers and help shape they way people are expected to play in general. Please keep it up. notworthy.gif

As always an excellent video and quality made.

unfortunately i feel they are lacking in actual "how to" info, is there anyway you could overlay the actual keys you are pressing whilst manouvering or do the double vid thing showing keyboard.

This is in now way critisicm justa request/suggestion, i used to love flying in such a manor in ofp ,but in arma i just cant handle the way the bank/roll/pitch is so tempremental.

a typical example would be the "flare" moment i just couldnt relay what you did to what button i would press to achieve it i am thinking the "s" key but i know my nose would rise far more than yours did lol.

once again not critcism

Clap, clap smile_o.gif . An other very nice movie and this time with some very nice info etc. As (ArmA) pilot in training very usefull...

It was clearly not really a 'how to' movie but more like a 'planning' movie, but it has some very good things in it thumbs-up.gif .

Like i said, i don't think it was mean to be a step-by-step, press this that movie (i really don't mind and in the end...it is practice practice..and a bit more..p smile_o.gif ).

Maybe a suggestion if you plan to make a more detailed movie regarding the controles, you might want to integrate a webcam screen of your keyboard/joystick actions like you did for the TIR4 movie.

@deanosbeano: Reagrding the 'flare' moment. What works for me, is at the moment your make your flare it is a mather of slighty pulling the stick (noise up) and reducing trust. What sometimes helps evenmore (to avoid noise lift) is to trigger the auto hover mode, as in most cases it reduces speed and keeps the heli level.

Anyway, like Dslyecxi typed, practice, practice and a bit more...

But i must admite a good joystick (in my case) and a good practice mission (multiple drop-offs/pick-ups with some treats) can do miricals. I'm a bit proud to say i learned to master (->meaning no crashes) the new flight system in a good day doing my practice mission over and over. It is a great feeling to perform drop-offs and pick-ups in MP, especially knowing you have living cargo in the back smile_o.gif .

Not planning to take over your topic Dslyecxi, but these are my current joystick settings. Maybe it helps some, but it is a personal setting, more or less (too) stable.

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">joystickSensitivity[]={0.450000,0.450000,0.050000,0.050000,0.050000,0.600000,1.000000,1.000000,0.450000,0.450000

,0.050000,0.050000,0.050000,0.600000,1.000000,1.000000};

Anyway, keep up the good work Dslyecxi notworthy.gif .

I have seen lots of this on youtube (with real players actually inserting/extracting several times) already. Its an entertaining and well executed movie with some basic tips, the most important one being practice.

edit: Can anyone confirm the pilot positions of the helos, LB on the left and UH-60 on the right?
