memnoch 0 Posted July 19, 2007 You would have to run Steam and then select the game you wish to play. But you do not need to be online to do this. There is an option in Steam to allow you to play offline, as long as you don't want online play obviously. I find it amazing the amount of FUD being passed around, even after years of the product being out there, with people stating that you have to be online to play Steam games and it just isn't true. Dwarden 1125 Posted July 19, 2007 any game released over STEAM needs STEAm running in background considering it eats around 6-10MB it's no issue for me ... if You just release old game for STEAM w/o any change to how it operate, then owners of retail or other distribution systems don't need STEAM at all ... ofc if You want e.g. to avoid pirate copies or secure MP or else ... You may set new rules that now STEAM is needed (but that needs global patch for all other distributions) p.s. another new indie game was released on STEAM, named SpaceForce : Rogue Universe (seems like new titles rate increases)

.kju 3245 Posted July 20, 2007 or BI upgrades sprocket to do the auth and validation stuff.. its a matter of money, resources and priority. steam took its time to get mature as well ..
Monkwarrior 0 Posted July 20, 2007 Steam would be a godsent for BIS. Tripwire made huge sales because of their move to steam. Topics like this always attract the no-voters so this poll is not how the community of arma thinks IMO Majority doesn't care I suppose. Steam has become a usefull stable product by now. My only "concern" is my privacy, since it's rather unknown which info really gets send. Oh and steam does NOT rule out that you cann't get a hard copy of arma. It's just more convenient to get updates etc. So for me: yes Steam all the way.
Dwarden 1125 Posted July 21, 2007 considering nearly everyone in IT or sales gunna store some info about You i'm pretty sure it's within 'fine' borders btw. another indie game on STEAM named 'GISH'
sputnik monroe 102 Posted July 21, 2007 A little off topic but still on topic... Â I must say I hate those stupid little buzz words "digital distribution". The only one I hate more is digital download. When ever I see a game web site advertising a game and it says "the game is also available as a digital download." I find my self asking, is there any other kind of download? I mean is there such thing as an analog download?
ShrubMiK 0 Posted July 23, 2007 LOL...yes that's a very good point. Steam gets my vote, btw. The only thing I don't like about it is how hard it is to resist temptation when I look at the list of games in the Steam store, there's some rather interesting-looking ones in there! Winters1807 0 Posted July 23, 2007 If we it does go to steam, then more ppl will get the game, which means more players for us, and more money to BIS, which means better products!
Jack-UK 0 Posted July 23, 2007 Yup, the only downside i see is a larger community for cheaters to arise... But with the extra money BIS could develop some sort of anti-cheat for ArmA specificially.. or just get Punkbuster (eww) but at least it would get rid of some of the cheaters lol
Dwarden 1125 Posted July 24, 2007 LOL...yes that's a very good point.Steam gets my vote, btw. Dwarden 1125 Posted August 27, 2007 What is wrong with a "HARD COPY OF THE GAME"?Why does this keep coming back up? The vote was unanimous. AGAINST STEAM! whats wrong with option to get STEAM version ? You got Your hard copy so stop acting like kid la 'i got my toy' and 'i do all to prevent you to get it' ArmA is already on Direct2Drive, ATARI download service, Metaboli and Sprocket ... so why not STEAM and else ? or just tell me one logical reason to ignore active ~15 mil users market like STEAM is ... * notice when i posted on first page (dec 2005) i mentioned that STEAM got 6-7 mil users ... xendance 3 Posted August 28, 2007 What is wrong with a "HARD COPY OF THE GAME"?Why does this keep coming back up? The vote was unanimous. AGAINST STEAM! Stupid, you can make the "hard copy of the game" compatible with Steam. All it has to have is a steam compatible cd-key so you can register it.
