ade_mcc 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Late 2001. Was doing temp work at the time and paying off student debts and couldn't afford it innitially. Had played the demo to death and thought it was fantasitic, desptite not having internet access to 'tweek' certain aspects. I remember telling my mum 'See that hill, I can go there if I want'. I remember the certain wow factor that other games just didn't have. Still have the PC Gamer preview and review somewhere - classic reading. Got bought the Gold addon when it came out. Couldn't afford resistance, then couldn't find a copy when I had the money! Thank god for GOTY. Still the only game that stays installed whatever.

Chris Death 0 Posted November 16, 2005 I also got the demo from a pc magazine and was soooo impressed by that 'Ambush' mission that on: June 21 2001 i went out to get the game on it's release day 4 years later my divorce has finally been completed (but to be honest - ofp just helped open my eyes ) i'm still a great fan of this 'best game ever yet' ~S~ CD
gandalf the white 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Hehehe... This was the "first time" of a friend: I fired up Y2K3, wich VME CQB AI, and some "custom" addons. I kindly asked him what weapon he wanted, sci-fi fan as he is, he answered "lightsaber!" , after beating the crap out of him he settled with a "MP5". I selected afghanistan, placed some stargates about in towns, put Resistance there (some accompanied by tanks, some by a TO8A2) , went into Chris's OFP script editor, gave him (custom soldier) a HK and some AT (he'd need it, gehehe...), applied it to him, and wished him luck . Luckely for him, the first town he entered didn't contain a "TO8A2" (even he didn't know what that was), but either way, he started. Now anybody that has played against VME's AI know they're simply scaring. and my friend here experienced thesame thing. He did a brave attempt at memorising where the enemy would come from, only to learn that they didn't act thesame way time over time, you could see the depression in his face when a soldier rolled from behind a building and threw a nade his way . So either way, when he was that nervous of the enemy eh couln't even aim properly I suggested he'd take another stargate to a different town.... five minutes later I walked him to the door, the poor man couln't take it . Morale of this story: OFP can kill your inner child EDIT: kind of funny, the time he ran between two buildings and the Arachnida opened fire... I know it sounds spooky but I didn't expect him to reacy like Mesh playing Doom3
LoTekK 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Does slaving over every bit of news prior to release count as playing? Played the demo to death from the day it was released, then picked the full game up on release day, played the Resistance demo to death on release, and then picked up Resistance on release day. Had a hiatus from the game of over a year, then recently (in the last month or so) reinstalled it. And am still loving it. To this day, over 4 years after initial release, it still rocks my world. I still find the terrain almost unmatched by any other game out there (Far Cry would probably be the one to beat it, at least graphically, but even that game doesn't allow a 5km view distance ). I remember when I first got Resistance and was introduced to the marvels of open terrain that actually provided enough dips and rises to at least partially hide the movement foot soldiers when I literally ran into a squad of patrolling Russians as they strolled out of a small depression in the terrain. Even the much ballyhooed Soldner and Joint Ops couldn't hold a candle to the then 3 year old game. BIS just rocks big time.
r1y23 0 Posted November 17, 2005 Hello im new. I first played in 2001 when i was in fourth grade, i got the demo, and then i hated it because it didnt have pokemon in it. Now 5 years i tried it again and loved it (im a military buff) so i just ordered OPF:CWC, OPF:RH, and OPF:Resistance. now im gonna go back and play the same 2 demo levels a million times over until my package arrives
BlackScorpion 0 Posted November 17, 2005 Lol you could've just ordered GOTY edition... Anyways... when I first heard about OFP, it was a new thing. One of my friends had it, and we talked about it on the breaks in school. Before I saw it, I had no idea what a BMP or Ural was... he tried to explain... Well, I got to play it, a bit. Then, another friend got the Gold edition and then we played it. In summer 2003 I saw GOTY in the shop, for 50 €. Well, I bought it and tried it on my old PC. Didn't work. My "new" PC is about 2 years old now, so I first played my own copy about exactly 2 years ago. So I had GOTY for few months but nothing to do with it... I'm glad I waited. Oh, I've had fun since... Thank you, BIS.
redface 1 Posted November 17, 2005 Played the demo to death from the day it was released, then picked the full game up on release day, played the Resistance demo to death on release, and then picked up Resistance on release day. I don't want to interfere with your memories, but wasn't the Resistance demo only released after the Resistance CD? very interesting topic BTW, we could have a similar one on "what makes you still play OFP today?" novatekk 0 Posted November 17, 2005 July 2001. Like someone said before the demo was amazing...probably the best demo ever. Still remember the first time that I walked around on Everon...kept walking for hours in the hope of finding a car somewhere. Still play it at least once a week just messing around in the editor. harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Played the demo which came with the March PC Gamer; told my father this was the best game ever, he being an ex-military man agreed - bought it at Virgin Megastores on Oxford Street the week it came out - been playing it ever since (albeit reinstalled about twenty times - lord only knows how many times I've downloaded the updates for it and OFP:R!. crave22 0 Posted November 19, 2005 I have no clue when I got it. All I know is I got it about when GOTY came out (I opted to get GOTY). I let it sit for about a month until I got a new computer. I decided to try it out. Been hooked ever since. I'd say between 2 and 3 years ago, but I have no idea on the exact date.

Madus_Maximus 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Ah memories of that damn Uaz in the demo. How many times I snuffed it after some sneaky git popped up from round a bush and capped me I don't know! When I first got the demo I had a pretty lame PC, 400MHz Celeron (shudders) and 64mb of RAM, and a Voodoo 3200 or something (God knows, I had a TNT 2 too soon after as it was defective). Even though I had a crappy system and it was a slide show at the best of times, I still loved it, so much that I went out the day it was released and got it! Played it for hours, then stopped because of something or another, then my friend bought it off me as I thought I wouldn't be playing it again. Then, as you do when you lend or give things away you want it again, so I got the Gold Edition and was brought into the magical world of a patched version! When I heard about Resistance I remember saving up my pocket money, then the day it came out (think it was a Friday or Saturday) I sent my mother off out to get it for me (she was going out anyway), then installed it and fired up the new campaign. I was impressed with the vastly improved voice acting and mission quality, and the cut scene scripting and the like aswell as the improved water and terrain! My first experience (before starting the campaign) was in the map editor on the new island, I put a V-80 in Davle then flew around, then checked out some of the other new stuff like being able to load ammo and things into vehicles! I was soooo happy! I'd wanted that feature for aaaaages before that and I'd finally got it! I remember joining some public server with the massively improved MP interface and netcode, (public servers used to be full then! and remember saving someone on my team (think it was a CTF) in a Kiowa who was being pinned down by a sniper. I popped some FFAR's the snipers way and landed then gotout of there then some eejit on my team shot us down with a stinger. Ah memories. Anyway, I've been playing it ever since. No matter what other games divert my attention I always come back to OFP.
HOBOMAN 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Summer of '01 I got the demo from a gaming magazine CD. I remember playing the Demo over and over then showing the game to my friend. His first response was, "What the hell? Who shot me? I can't even see him!". Then Christmas that year I got the game played and never beat the CWC campaign. Operation Flashpoint sat on my HD for some time unplayed. About a year and half later in the spring of 03 my friend got 2 copies of Resistance. He gave one to me. I finished of the CWC campaign with some help of the gamespot walkthrough, then moved onto resistance. Impressed by the game, I googled it. Then I found out there were tons of Addons, Campaigns and Mods. I don't have much time to play OFP anymore with my commitment to rowing, but I still work one some missions now and then. I still remember the good old days -BAS releasing their MH-47s -OPGWC Mod was showing pictures of the USS Tawara Class -My friend download every addon off opf.info and installing it -Trying to make missions with no skills what so ever -Seeing pictures of BAS seals -Finding the delete button in the editor -Playing that single ambush demo mission over and over (and I still never got the play the playable conclusion once your chopper got shot down)
col_kurtz1979 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Downloaded the demo out of boredom, sept 01, a few days after 9/11. I was so hooked on the demo I went out the next day and bought the full game. Ive played this game almost everyday since.... yet I still havent completed the 1985 campaign yet
LoTekK 0 Posted November 22, 2005 I don't want to interfere with your memories, but wasn't the Resistance demo only released after the Resistance CD? Eh, memory's not what it used to be. ^_^ You're probably right, though I distinctly recall both playing the demo missions as well as getting Resistance on release day. Oh wait, the demo missions weren't in the retail release, right? I think I may have heard that, and then downloaded the demo. Or something. I dunno.
flybyil 0 Posted November 24, 2005 So many of you have been playing OFP since 2001! Well, I didn't even had a computer then... Now I have a PC... ...now I have OFP... ... I have the GOTY version... ...I've gotten rid of the PC's crashing problem... ... I've solved OFP graphics mysteries... ...and I've received lots of help in OFP community
LoTekK 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Y'know, I still recall my first shot at the Resistance campaign. After the Russians invade, and there are troops and armor all over Lipany, I step outside, listening to the "advice" repeating over the loudspeakers telling everyone to go home. Then I see a civvie get wasted, so I hop into one of the cars in the main square, and proceed to run over the trailing soldiers in the squad running around town. Then I grab their weapons and start shooting. Take some fire, decide I should hop in the car and speed home. Get wasted by a tank on the way out of Lipany. Next run-through I figured I should just take Guba's advice.
brataccas 0 Posted November 24, 2005 ye I used to do that too squish one take ak then wipe out the whole squad
jtec 0 Posted November 24, 2005 August 01, Downloaded the demo and was hooked. Played it loads, occationally play now but more time spent on making addons for it, and the evil real life things... As always i to BIS for making a near perfect game
