DracoPaladore 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Cd's? I went straight for DVD. Glad they put it on DVD's, I'm beginning to hate CD's.
ZIKAN 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Played the demo, didnt like the weapon performance to much, but did like that you can hop in and out the game with ease for a quick fix. Im actually beginning to enjoy it now as I have been in some good squads who actually work together. So I bought the game and the experience has gotten better with patience and team work, if you can find it. Playing as squad leader or commmander if very rewarding if you have like minded players on the server. "Mashtuur City" and "Strike at Karkand" are probably the best ever urban enviroment maps I have ever played, they are amazing, the sense of intensity and pace gets the adrenaline flowing It wont replace my OFP, but having played the same OFP maps online over and over for the last few months, BF2 is just a welcomed break. IMO its a fun game, nothing more.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 4, 2005 A little word of advise for the europeans that have the full version. If you look for a good smooth ranked server just go into "Multiplayer" and type into the field with "server name" the following "EA Europe". The browser will then give you all ranked servers which, in my experience, have a good ping, good teamplay and a proper map circulation.
Blanco 0 Posted July 4, 2005 I played it last night and it's a real pity how EA can ruin a good concept into a childish and Fisherprice-like game. Things I like about BF2 : - The sounds, I really like them - The command system. Fast, like Raven shield, SWAT4,... - The graphic engine Things I dislike : - The weaponbalistics, especially from the tanks - The medics. It's a good thing to make them important, but why do they behave like wizards? They can revive teammates in a second! Get an army of medics! - The damage models (where are they?) - The maps. I can't understand why people have so much fun and fly on such a small map. - No interaction with the environment;
Apollo 0 Posted July 4, 2005 I thought the demo wasn't to bad.The engine actually looks quite capable ,but like most here the lack of realism and complexity turns me a bit of ,same goes for the 75% silly kids community. That said ,im planning to buy this game in six months or a year for a reduced price ,at a point that mulltiple mods will be available of the game ,some with a realism level that is acceptable. (doesnt have to be OFP level realism therefore) Probably a lot of Bf1942 mods will get converted to BF2 anyway quite soon. Btw ,i think ,indeed when it concerns urban infantry and armor combat ,BF2 offers a very capable engine.Gamespot's remark is afcourse over the top though. Supah 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Bought it today, hope Armed Assualt has graphic leaning towards this. Looks nice, gameplay is a bit boring but that should be better when you have a nice group to play with
*Pete* 0 Posted July 4, 2005 i read that it is possible to attach C4 on to other players, i quess even own teammembers.... fear the suicidal Jihadist team that learns to send in 5 running & shooting human bombs!!..thats the way to clear a base of enemy players and vehicles....oh..and of course then you just send in a medic to heal them before they "die", not to mention a support soldier to rearm the spec op soldier so he can arm his newly healed jihadists again......... i begin to like the "possibilities" of this game more and more lol
Supah 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Man this sucks! Offline its perfectly smooth, online I get a frame a second ingame. Totally unplayable. Also the Gayspy ingame browser is laggy to hell and back. What gives?
dabitup 0 Posted July 4, 2005 dont know, but lag at times is killer. Maybe EA will somehow fix this. And I dont understand why you can only play 16 sized maps on SP? @Albert Schweizer can you do that with America?
Supah 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Heh so far: 1. Offline play is non existant, if you are thinking about buying BF2 for this dont. 2. Online play is hard to get working if not impossible. First I got mega lag, though sometimes it works flawlessly. Now I dont have an internetconnection according to the game. 3. The NVIDIA drivers it tells you to install only work well with BF2 and on my system it messes up dual monitor settings, It only allows cloned screens which are totally useless. Don't buy it if you intend to use it as anything else then a 50 euro beercoaster.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 7, 2005 got a nice link from a friend, and somehow made me rekindle the good old OFP stunts. http://nolja.echangup.net/gesanova/album/1/StuntsRegeneration.wmv

And I dont understand why you can only play 16 sized maps on SP?@Albert Schweizer can you do that with America? Sure.. you just need to verify what the general names of US servers are. Try "EA US"! In oder to find it out you need to filter for ranked servers and then you will see several in the list that start with "EA" and then something "US Server Washington 11b". So if you type into the filter "EA US" you would probably get all official EA servers listed for the US. And dont worry about the ping. Those official servers allways have a good ping! Duel Monitors works fine here, there's a few occasions though of non-reliablely reproducable twilight-zone behavior though that wasn't present in 71.89. 71.84 was still crap on the OpenGL stuff I needed. Anyhoo, Spanned or Duelview is working fine here, Gf-6600 GT AGP.
Supah 0 Posted July 9, 2005 this taken from the EA website Quote[/b] ]HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming SoonFirst off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week. Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days. What ever BIS does with the AA release or "OFP2" its going to look like a fantasticly perfect release after this. BF2 has been the last EA product I ever bought! DracoPaladore 0 Posted July 9, 2005 Yeah, this fix is stupid and EA's incompetency is beginning to shine brighter than usual. I will continue to play the game, now and then, until they definatly fix the problem. I had no issues playing the game before. But now I do.
MES-Hoot 0 Posted July 9, 2005 What annoys me about BF2 is the fact that Ill have an M249 and I will turn the corner, and someone will be right there, so I begin to fire.... keep in mind I am firing 5.56 rounds 5 feet from someone. He turns around, does that gay little jump shit, and shoots me with a pistol. M249 vs 9mm Pistol....and Pistol wins.... WTF?
berghoff 11 Posted July 9, 2005 =) maybe it was the lag that got you killed hehe Quote[/b] ]I had the same problem, I was 5 yards from another soldier and I had a machine gun or something full auto, and I unloaded but he turns around, jumps and then goes prone WHILE IN THE AIR, falls to the ground, and kills me. Bullshit. Reminds me off max payne heh =)

shinRaiden 0 Posted July 9, 2005 As near as I can tell - still only from the demo - only after emptying a disconcerting amount of ammo will BF initially evaluate if there is a killable unit in your bullet vector, then change the targeting reticle to reflect that, at which point .50 ball does immediately drop the opfor. If that is indeed the case, that is a very disturbing flaw in designer logic. Not only does it severely impact realism, but worse offers a measure of protection for spawn camping snipers, or tank whores. So long as there is no useful artillery or useful suppressive mg fire - has to actually hurt you to be useful, the tactics encouraged will significantly and negatively impact gameplay. God help whatever poor army gets suckered into considering it for training, EA following their Chinese idealogical mentors will likely bill them for the proverbial bullet. miles teg 1 Posted July 10, 2005 I've been playing it a little bit on a friend's laptop and to be honest I thought it wasn't all that bad and I was just playing single player. I actually rather enjoyed the single player gameplay on it and found the AI to be quite smart. I also found it to be a little bit less arcade like then Joint Operations. However the weapon ballistics were FAR from perfect and Joint Operations has much better realism in that regard...and OFP of coarse is vastly better that regard as well. Like others, I found the SAW to be worthless...the sound FX on the SAW and other weapons was excellent, but I used to be a SAW gunner in the Army, and even firing in short bursts it took 3 bursts to take a guy down at 100 meters....anything past 100 meters and forget it. I felt more like I was firing an AK-47. In real life I had no problems hitting 300 meter targets with the SAW and at 100 meters I could easily get multiple rounds on a target with a 3-4 round burst. The only weapon that I found to actually have realistic ballistics was that Chinese Assault rifle. I actually enjoyed playing the Chinese and using that rifle. At any rate, I still had a lot of fun on it and probably will buy it once the Realism Mod for it is finished and once they work out the worst bugs. But I agree with others, that if upcoming BIS releases are anything like they claim, that indeed it will blow the socks off of everything else out there including BF2. shadow 6 Posted July 12, 2005 Sounds to me the game still ain't up to jack shit and still no realism mod out. I'm in no hurry. I got OFP
chops 111 Posted July 12, 2005 BF2 is good from an arcade type point of view. As Miles Teg mentioned above, it's far from "realistic", given all the ballistic values and such. But it is good fun. I haven't been able to find a server where anybody uses the built in VOIP thing though. It seems that on most servers, people just run around as a disorganized rabble, which I dont think takes full advantage of what the game has to offer, considering the command structure, support options etc. I reckon that's why it got such rave reviews. 64 people who all work together, organized into teams and squads, devising your tactics etc, sounds like a lot more fun than blundering about plinking away at anything that doesn't have a blue name above it. And if there was a mallee attack option, the SAW might even have some use
