Never touched any of these substances ever in my life smile_o.gif

And can never understand why people take them up either.

I used to drink really heavilly when I was about 19 and it did some pretty bad damage to my health for a while, until I realised that I definitely needed to cut out the drinking binges and stick to simple moderate drinking unless I wanted to go the way of George Best or wind up dead.

I didn't drink in such a way long enough for it to effect my long-term health so I can carry on having a pint once a week with the lads without feeling that I'm killing myself any more than they are. It's not like I've given up drinking (so I guess I shouldn't be posting here really...:P) but I've realised that I don't need to get pissed out of my skull and sleep in a dustbin to get the most out of alcohol, it's not worth it.

I also used to smoke weed from time to time, like if I was at a party or somet and my friends had some on them (which they quite often did). I never considdered buying my own and smoking it regularly like my friends did, always seemed a waste of money too me and I could see smoking it alot didn't do my friends any good.

I'd smoke another couple of joints if I was offered at an 'apropriate' time, I'm not afraid of doing so, (how can I be I've done it before) it's just that nobody I know really does it any more, I suppose we've just matured past such lives of leisure. I suppose that's a good thing.

Its fun ok...jeez

Whats so fun about stoning your mind out , not knowing what you might do, lose your ability to perform even the simplest of actions , not to mention health issues and being a nuisance to others?

The fact that you don't give a damn about those things when you're doing it. True it's not for everyone, I was a bit aprehensive about getting drunk/stoned before I tried it.

I suppose you could see trying to escape from the realities of life as a bit of a weakness but it's nice to do sometimes, though I mainly do/did it to be social. Yes I am somewhat of a sheep but in British culture you're 'supposed' to go down the pub and have a pint or two every so often, it feels right by me to do so, and it's generally accepted as a decent thing.

It's just western culture, or atleast European, to go to the pub, watch the game and have a few beers, then go home; get ready and head for the clubs.

Not everyone drinks, and only a small minority smoke, but its generally an accepted part of life.

Having said that, like most things, it probably boils down to increasing your chances of getting laid. (Getting plastered that is)

Sounds like me sober smile_o.gif What's your point?

I honestly don't understand what is so wrong with going with the flow every now and then. Having a few pints with your mates, possibly make an ass out of yourself and hearing the story for the next 20 years is fun ! biggrin_o.gif You could offcourse make all your own decisions and just sit at home every weekend not watching TV because that would be sheepish too. Reading books is out because, well lets be honest, every one reads Nicci French and tom clancy .... don't want to be a sheep now wink_o.gif Going to a pub and drinking a few is normal social behaviour and keeps people like me out of the dole wink_o.gif You would be amazed at the industry behind it, lots of jobs and profit made ....

Not such a small minority - over a third (34% of the adult population in the EU)

Gain insights into stuff, look at things for a very different perspective, loosen up (I'm too reserved, too much alcohol can ahve a detrimental effect though), relax. smile_o.gif

I did some of my best creative work when I came back from a get-together stoned and drunk, it's very nice sometimes.

Getting stoned or drunk so you don't remember what you did when you wakeup = bad.

Weed (and consorts), alcohol and cigarettes (only when I'm drunk admittedly, L&M if possible) aren't things I will quit anytime soon I think, at least not until I'm out of college. tounge_o.gif

Don't spend any money on weed, mooch off my friends, hardly ever smoke (maybe one night out of a hundred) but I do tend to drink regularely.

A dozen or so Stella's on a normal night out, nothing wrong there IMHO, just while chatting with my friends. smile_o.gif

There's nowt wrong with that. People just dislike the fact that it causes problems in society that probably outweigh the benefits of it, like violence, unprotected sex, health problems etc.

I'm not saying people drink because they want to be the same, that's not a particularly good thing, I'm just saying that because many people drink it's a normal part of society, it's practically everywhere, so people feel invited to do it because they know it's something everyone can enjoy. They know this because other people do it, so effectively they follow into it.

I just love to do group events like playstation n junk and most women don't, so i smoke and drink cuz they'll do that. Let me know if ya'll know a girl who is friendly and will hang out without the need of substances, enjoys the same music i enjoy at least and ill show you a changed man. If a girl shares my musical tastes thats a big thing to me, but she also has to be good to be around and has to admire me for some reason or another, that way she'll not do me wrong but rather respect me.

Hmmm........first things first!

One rarely end up in a relationship with women you meet when drunk/intoxicated or whatever. You'll end up with someone you like and know - a girl you've met while doing other things than partying. It's as simple as that!

However, you have a point when saying that the use of alcohol has an effect on you - and the girls. There is undoubtedly a "relaxing" effect by drinking alcohol. You become more careless, relaxed, cool (perhaps) and for other persons one might appear as full of selfesteem. Could be it!

You don't need a girl who nessecarily enjoys the same things in life. Very often differences between two people would be good for the relationship. My girlfriend and I are very different and I suppose the only thing we have in common is the love and admiration for everything Italian - except Berlusconi, Forza Italia and Lega Nord! She even smokes (ooops) whereas I don't tounge_o.gif

I'm a black guy who's more of an underground hip hopper who's persuing a relationship with a white skater chick who likes eminem but she reminds me of a kind sunday school teacher the way she talks to me all sweetly and is all nice and sweet. She's so innocent, yet authoritative, and humorous yet subtle. A perfect combination for a mother, plus she was giving me play when we was hanging out. I'm not talking about the freaky stuff, I'm talking romance. Rubbing her bare feet along the bottoms of my boots while watching a movie together and resting her arm on my shoulder as we sat close to each other. It's a start on the right path, this attempt i can only hope will not fail. She may keep all things that make her who she is, but she needs to drop the whole bisexual thing if we decide on getting dead serious with each other but I'll accept it for now. Anyways.... arrrghhh, I just don't want to die alone so I use substances to make friends and keep people around. The church has no use for me. I've approached them many times before on being able to help out, even took interest in how church people hang out, but they have no interest or use for me so thats not an option any more. God will still love me. It's my road dogs, the chicks, God and the partying for now. Jesus served up wine, why can't I drink it?

I fully agree, I know couples who started in an intoxicated state like that. They all like the same things, were always friends of eachother and generally don't last very long.

The "best" couples I know are very different but make a great pair when you actually see them interact. smile_o.gif

I have once read that the nicotine dependency was considered has adictive has heroin rock.gif , maybe not fisicaly but psicologicaly rock.gif .

Has for the topic theme mentioning quitting alcohol... well having a alcohol dependancy is alot more serious than tobacco, alcoholism is has serious has any other hard drug if not even worse!

I have seen it before and it has costed the life of one relative of mine, brain damage, unconsciousness, paranoia, agressive behaviour, its a very dramatic condition not known by the majority of people, i could type pages of stuff related to alcohol dependancy and all conditions and desease around it.

So i strongly recomend all the youngsters out there to be cautious, enjoy life has much has possible but with established limits. Live it in a mature way staying away from self degradation smile_o.gif .

I dont smoke and i can see no reason at all to.

Disadvantages

Big cost

health defects (my nanna smokes and she hates it but just cant quit shes 60 odd and i know 80yr old ppl who look much younger)

bad smell, i personally hate the smell my self it also gets everywhere, just being around them and then it gets in your clothes.

The liking smoking part generally stems from the need to smoke caused by the nicotine.

Hinders you taste and smell(i really like my taste on things the way it is)

benefits

Gives u something to do when u have nothing to do.

Helps u loose weight(but then not a benefit for me i have trouble puttin it on)

My previous mates used to smoke heaps, after one night out with them, it took me 3 days to shake the smell and taste in the throat, i never smoked myself, but being in a car with 4 smokers who find it too hard to open the windows i might as well have.

I also think coke must be addicitive(the softdrink) i dont drink alot of it myself but my brothers and some friends guzzle the stuff and when they go for a long period without coke, they really start to need and need it.

I only drink wine, not beer or anything fermented. Its against my religion but its just a matter of personal taste for me.

You do know wine is also fermented, just differs in what they ferment grapes vs beers yeast and stuff.

And as far as weed goes to some health conditions its beneficial, some countries allow people with these conditions to obtain it on prescription legally.

to relax!

Something you Ace should try from time to time! (without the help of alcohol of course)  biggrin_o.gif

Maybe I just drink and smoke to rebell against this upcoming trend of "living healthy makes you live happily". We have all those freaking fitness tapes coming over from Florida and California of people eating the most disgusting artificial health food, taking Botox and youth hormons, sleeping in oxygen tents and beginning the day with Joga and a facial scrub. I just hate this fakeness...

I rather have a good discussion with someone who is drunk and smells from cigarettes than with a phoney californian fittness trainer.
