Community Performance/Hardware Thread

Recommended Posts

I thought up this as a thread idea, and i'm not too sure if its a good idea yet. soon in the near future, I am upgrading my computer, and wondered lots about hardware and performance in the ofp world. This thread could be used as a resource for all users, to ask for help, tips, advice, and general system information regarding any hardware and  system performance issues related to the game.

for instance, we can post about what systems run ofp the best, and how other hardware system configurations compare. post pc specs and ask questions!

if this topic is "searchable" close 'er down....til then, tell me what you think! add comments, and brainstorm how a thread like this could be used

Gotta have atleast 512+ Ram wink_o.gif

I run a Fragbox, nothing that special.

2.66+

Geforce 128MB 5600 Ultra (could use another)

PC2700 512MB (trying to get another 512 stick)

OFP runs real nice on

AA4x

AS4x

Quality

Everything notched up on the System Performance.

When I pop Post-Processing on, I get a frame drop from 60 to about 30.

My specs:

- 2.53 GHz Pentium 4

- 512mb RAM

- FX5500 256mb OC

I get frame rates around 20 playing with stuff on normal detail and DXDLL activated. I know it doesn't seem that high, but my game runs fluently, so I don't care tounge_o.gif.

k fellas

i got a p42.2 ghz older "northwood"

512 ddr SDram (266), geforce 4 ti 4600

i usually get 15-30 fps in most game situations, running with 2xaa, quality image settings, and no AA.

im upgrading my processor and mobo to a newer p4 3.2e (800mhz fsb) with 1mb cache. hopefully i can see a bost.

im looking at ram upgrades as well. any suggestions?

my new board supports up to 2gb? of pc3200 ddr Sdram (266, 333 and 400mzh speeds)

I have a P4 2.4 GHZ, 768 MB RAM, GF4 Ti4400.

Usually I play with medium or low terrain detail, 1500 viewdistance, in 1600x1200(? whatever it is) with 2x Antialiasing.

What really helped my performance was turning visual quality down from the max to about 10.22.

I think I get about 20-30 FPS on Nogova, lower when a lot of stuff is happening. I don't use DXDLL because it tends to kill my FPS.

For some reason my FPS really gets killed when looking at a well lit town at night or dawn, really frustrating. Lots of fires also mess it up. Anyone else have this trouble?

Pentium 4 2.4

1GB RAM

Geforce4MX440 ( sad_o.gif )

Runs great with 900 viewdistance and shadows off, but I do sometimes get lag on maps like ashau or tonal, and my fps can drop in the 10 or 15s (playable, but slow). But I never have any major lag moments where the game is frozen for like 15 seconds.

Original:

GeForce 2 Mx/Mx 400 sad_o.gif

AMD Athlon 797.8 MHz

256 MB or RAM

I have a very low frame rate with these specs. Games from 2002 and older run fine but any older and it gets laggy. The C-130 addon on desert island is unplayable. crazy_o.gif

By the end of October I plan on upgrading to:

GeForce Fx5700(or 5900)

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 64bit CPU

512 MB RAM

I used to play OFP on this:

Intel Pentium II 266MHz

320 RAM

geforce 2 mx 400.

****************

Now, I play OFP on this:

Intel Pentium III 800MHz

512 RAM

geforce 2 mx 400

*****************

I plan to buy this:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton box

512 DDRAM

ATI Radeon 9800Pro (256MB).

The only thing I need is money. smile_o.gif

is anyone out there currently running a newer p4? as stated, im getting one THIS WEEK. i can't wait to see what it does (or doesn't do) for ofp. i'm still confused about a ram solution. i pretty much want this game to run as fast as possible.

hopefully we can hear about users "monster systems" that totally dominate this old, but still technological demanding engine smile_o.gif

One of my mates just last weekend got himself a P4 3.2 ghz with one of the L2 cache's. (1mb or 8, not sure), 512 mb ram, and a GeForce Fx 5700 card.

I set up OFP for him, max detail, frame rate, high terrain, view distance of 2000-3000m. (Definantly can't max the view distance on high terrain detail.)

His machine was host for FDF mod on LAN, and it took it all in it's stride. I envy the bastard. (I've still got 1.4 ghz P4, using 512 MB of 800mhz RD-RAM, and GeForce FX 5200)

It runs most games fairly well, and won't be looking for a new system for at least 9 months, or till OFP II comes out, whichever comes first  smile_o.gif

OFP looks absolute fantastic, runs smooth with lower viewdistance and all 3D models(e.g: trees) are drawn high quality all the time.

With high viewdistances and islands with tons of objects, ofp is sometimes a little slow but still playable. (waiting for a official/inofficial ofp performance patch, to make more use of newer hardware...)

Good tips, Lee. Those are almost perfect values if you want good looking game with reasonable performance. smile_o.gif

im guessing 1gb of ram will do wonders for ofp. any input on this matter?

ie: what does ofp rely on more? processor, ram, or video?

I agree smile_o.gif

I think CPU-RAM-Video in that order smile_o.gif

There is a big difference from 512 to 1GB RAM if you're using high terrain detail and 1500+ viewdistance. I see no difference between 1 and 2GB. But the biggest performance boost is always the CPU. OFP is very CPU-dependant.

Video-card is not an issue with OFP if you have a GF4TI4600 or better. The only difference between my old GF4TI4600 and the current GF6800GT is that I can push AA and AF. With AA and AF off there is no difference in performance between the two in OFP on my rig. smile_o.gif

nice, im thinking about editing my first post for reference, to give users an idea of some sort about a "dream system", that can make ofp PLAY, like those pretty pictures in the photography thread.

heres something else that i will throw at you:

what goes on when you throw keg's DXDLL into the mix? are those features more reliant on the videocard?, or does it still stay the same, like what placebo told us?

edit: now that a few of you said it, im really looking forward to my p4 3.2 this week smile_o.gif

- really important is still how it *looks*

... means you have  to enjoy entering your *OFP-Station*  smile_o.gif

hinten.jpg

my hero is Darth Vader, as you can see on the pic

=> when im entering this *workstation* i *mutoid* from Dr. Jekyl into

a *Black Device Killing Machine* ... zahn.gif

P.S. PIV 3,2 GHz HT / FSB800 / Radeon9800pro / 1GB DDRam / OFP Bench

P.P.S still cant get *very high* details* ... i mean what ffs is this for engine in OFP,

thats still not possible to get very high

- while Hardware has changed from 600MHz => 3000MHz (x5) ! ...incredible
