Amazing how many tiny towns in America got entries. Even my Hanover district home town Langenhagen got one, although it's rather short. Seems I've to add some pictures and additional informations in the next weeks.

FYI, I see the pin's white background with IE6 as well.

I think blaster said that IE6 was still  not able to show alpha textures and therefore you should use another browser like Mozilla as it shows the transparency.  Its also free and fairly small at about 12 MB for a whole browser package and downloadable too   .  I downloaded and installed it along side my internet explorer though IE is still my prefered main browser so to open the map page i have to click on the Mozilla shortcut to start it up and stick in the web address and you should be fine   .  I only got it to see the map properly myself.

Can you put mine in Grimsby/England please, of course I don't live there now but I don't think there's any point putting another one in Prague and Grimsby was my home for 31 years If you put the pin in the right leg of the h of the word manchester that's pretty close

Edit: Just had a thought about something that ties into previous OT threads, instead of linking to wikipedia, how about linking to the local newspaper for each person? Maybe that would be more interesting? IMO Example http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/ is the website for my local paper the "Grimsby Evening Telegraph"

Ok, linked your newspaper to the pin. As for the other cities --I don't know if anyone can read the http://www.Langenhagener-Echo.de

So I'll continue to link the pins against wikipedia, but you can propose a better target for your town if it's legible, i.e. english...

Check this map engine. Since jabber is generally surrounded by open-source people, I think you won't find any problem to talk with this guy so that he can borrow you the map engine and the documentation on "how to add". Then you could host it and maintain the map :]

Thanks for the hint. He uses a solution similar to my system. I have a map on which I position small pictures of pins as anchors with a title property. He uses a map on which he positions anchors using the "area" tag plus a complex JavaScript for the mouseover effect.

Hmm, I wanted to avoid JavaScript.

I'm thinking of creating some kind of database (a text file would do) and a Makefile to "compile" the map pages. The Makefile checks whether a continent's data was changed and then creates the html file by concatenating a basic layout file plus the pin code elements. Advantage: I only have to maintain the database, statistics would be much easier.

But due to my internship I compare the amount of work to create a proper Makefile with the amount of work to add new pins manually. And atm the latter is easier.
