EDIT: Me too i like the current flashpoint athmosphere so i don't like DXDLL because it blow the athmosphere of the game plz keep this oppresive athmosphere
andersson 285 Posted August 6, 2004 Maybe we can hope for 1.97 to ofp1? One thing is that #@€ autocenterview-thingy in planes and choppers.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 6, 2004 But should I spent 300 Bucks on VBS +essential addons? I mean dont forget in 18 months there will be a much better OFP2 out! Solution? NON!
swtx 42 Posted August 6, 2004 All this means is it will be twice as good. I know Merik said it was going to be a "very ambitious" project, so lets give him and the most excellent OFP team some breathing room and let them do what they do best. In the mean-time Doom 3 has hit the store shelves and Half-Life 2 will be out this month as well PS, lets not forget OFP X-Box is just around the bend
Mani2 0 Posted August 6, 2004 This news does nothing but increase my suspicions of BISs real motivation for delaying this game for so long. Before VBS was even mentioned, we had Red hammer and the Gold upgrade along with a shed load of patches. After that we got Resistance. Then came VBS and the realisation that the military application of this game will earn BIS a lot more money than selling OFP2 to us, the people who put BIS where they are. Since VBS there has been the odd patch and of course lots of news about VBS2. Starting to see a pattern yet? Good people of the OFP community, I believe that this delay is nothing to do with needing more time to try to make the game as good as it can get. It's about money, plain and simple. BIS want's to make money. It's a company after all. They realise that the millitary has a far bigger budget than you or I and they are abandoning us, the community, the people that bought thier game and financed thier buisness in order to milk thier new market place. I've noticed that a few of the people on this thread are resigning themselves to buying a copy of VBS1. Well, that's exactly what they want you to do. They won't be able to charge you the same extortionate price for OFP2, that's for sure. So by releasing this announcment they know that there are a lot of people won't be able to wait and will throw thier cash away on VBS1. If I am wrong, expect to see an anouncement soon, by BIS that they are working on an interim update for OFP1 to keep the fans they value so much happy untill OFP2 arrives, or at least some impresive improvements to the game in the way of a descent patch or two. However, If I am right, don't expect to see this post on this forum for very long. I'll leave you to decide.
Gadger 0 Posted August 6, 2004 I can't believe everyone is getting upset about the release date a publisher has put forward.
ebns72 0 Posted August 6, 2004 Hey guys. Yeah, the delay of ofp2 sucks, but just be glad it wasn't a last minute delay, because thats sucks even more. Be glad the news was given a year before release, and not during summer 2005.
Skulleye 0 Posted August 6, 2004 I've noticed that a few of the people on this thread are resigning themselves to buying a copy of VBS1. Well, that's exactly what they want you to do. Yeah, that must be why they recommended us not to buy it because it's not a game. When it was released, BIS said in many posts that no one should buy it thinking it was a game, and that it was not meant for us.

Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted August 6, 2004 I've noticed that a few of the people on this thread are resigning themselves to buying a copy of VBS1. Well, that's exactly what they want you to do. Yeah, that must be why they recommended us not to buy it because it's not a game. When it was released, BIS said in many posts that no one should buy it thinking it was a game, and that it was not meant for us. if you tell a kiddie that he should not go in that room because its not for him, hes gonna go in that room, no BAS addons for a while, lol, i see this as bis squeezing every penny out of VBS1, at 300 dollas a pop it ain't worth it and if it was not for the average gamer why would bis allow anyone to buy it eh. ] Ah well i'm not to bothered anymore i suspected somin because there was nothing at E3. Gameer 0 Posted August 6, 2004 I'm more upset over the fact we'll probably have to wait even longer before there's any new news.
Matthijs 40 Posted August 6, 2004 I'm just surprised that the delay of OFP2 was not made public any earlier. Obviously the BIS team has learned much since the early days. They have improved their planning, and communication very much. Maybe one thing could improve: Black Isle never gives an expected release date. BIS might want to use that tactic too. About VBS, just remember: VBS1==OFP1. When buying VBS1, don't expect any new "game features" in VBS1. It's only a few file, marker, and trigger juggling things. Everything you see in VBS1 from a gaming perspective, can be done in OFP1, and vice versa. In a few months time, OFP1 visuals may have improved so much, that it will surpass VBS1. For me, the delay of OFP2 just inspires me to go on and create OFP1 stuff. There is simply no competition for OFP1 on the horizon.

stgn 39 Posted August 6, 2004 I read on the VBS forum that they maby are gona release a pach to VBS so that you can play Campaigns(making it in to a game you could interpitate) its good for me cause my best freind was so silly to buy it so when he gets a new computer he will actualy be able to play the game whit out lag and I get to play it too . I think its too bad if we have to wait until 2006 cause by that time I wil be out of school(I hope I will be able to goin the army) and will have little time to play it . K.Gore 0 Posted August 6, 2004 we should get the ofp community to all pitch in and make our own ofp
offtime 0 Posted August 6, 2004 I say we should demand new pach for ofp ! i say we shouldnt let them threat us like that !
CanadianTerror 0 Posted August 6, 2004 Im still quite happy playing this game. As long as the addons keep flowing, I wont play anything else. So if any mod makers are waiting for OFP2, you might as well release that unreleased addon right now!
Mani2 0 Posted August 6, 2004 You can demand all you like, it won't get us anywhere. The only thing we can do to force BIS to take notice is to not buy VBS. BIS have quite planely shown us thier cards. They only care about success and cash. The community means very little to them now they have friends in the millitary and at Microsoft. NetWalker 0 Posted August 6, 2004 And the worst thing is that they even come here to say a single word about this delay or about the game itself. Everything new about OFP 2 is from codemasters. BIS don´t say a shit about it. I am very disappointed with this, but i´ll still continue to play OFP 1. And if this is not much to ask, please relase a 2.00 patch to solve that collision detection problems and other bugs still present in OFP 1 and also a new campaign or new expansion pack for us ! PS: sorry the bad english.
FUBAR 0 Posted August 6, 2004 BIS, please be good and release a physics patch to fix the collision detection problems, so we can survive those 2 years. I would have to agree, they have managed to improve collision detection in VBS and improve the graphic quality, so if it is using the same engine, just how hard could it be for them to transfer some improvements made in VBS engine to the OFP engine....hell they could even charge for those improvements, no-one is asking for anything for free, just a continued support for this program until OFP II is released.
