shinRaiden 0 Posted July 15, 2004 The biggest engine toy iirc is the dynamic lighting system, in combination with the enhanced optimizations. iirc, doom3 is yet another bsp-tree game like all late ID games, but with the obligatory stretched limits and additional shader capacity. I think the biggest 'new' change is the gynamic lighting system, geting away more from pre-compiled or 'early'-compiled lightmaping, that is useless on dynamic models (Quake2/3, OFP). Balschoiw 0 Posted July 15, 2004 I wonder if my comp will take it and run it in a good way.  I loved Doom1, Doom2. Will there be a coop mode ?  I just loved to run around a corner hear some "chhhhk" see a red ballmonster hover around the corner and run back in panic with a lot of monsters on my trail and an surprised coplayer   Anyone remembers the scary sound of that devils ? *shiver* Here´s a little goodie for all the old-school fellows who got temporarely paralized by Doom The doom experience...bigger than 100 KB of course

HellToupee 0 Posted July 15, 2004 from what i heard the levels will be destructable. other than just shooting monsters there are creative ways to dispatch enemies. since the game takes place on mars, you could shoot out windows and depressurizing the room than all the monsters will either get sucked out, or suphocate. The game would be 10'000 better if we had to kill human soldiers, seeing soldiers get sucked out of a window with a scream is mor efun then seeing a head with 8 legs and a weird mouth get sucked out why the big desire to kill your own kind? sergeant rock 3 Posted July 16, 2004 Ahhhh, if only OFP had that quality of graphics. Looks fantastic, but the plot and gameplay is so played out, doubt I'll spend the $50.
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Part of the reason I'm not excited is that this is fuck all like doom. Its resident evil, not doom. Sneaking around in the shadows being all horror? Doom was about gibbing piles of imps and steam demons with the BFG, not this ... stuff. Wow. It looks pretty. Meh.
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Is it really worth all that media and generall atention , shooting monsters? Dude, we're talking Doom here. The mother of them all  I'm sure as hell buying. Got too see what this baby 6800GT is good for in opengl. And like I said, it's Doom  The mother of them all?? You must have missed Wolfenstein 3D. The first 3D shooter ever. I'm gonna buy it as soon as I have bought myself a new videocard, GroundControl2, C&C Generals... I need a better paying job
R. Gerschwarzenge 0 Posted July 16, 2004 The mother of them all?? I think it was the first fps with a multiplayer support.
Gollum1 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Aah, it looks very scary and atmospheric, I'll definitely play this once I get my new PC.
Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted July 16, 2004 Part of the reason I'm not excited is that this is fuck all like doom. Â Its resident evil, not doom. Â Sneaking around in the shadows being all horror? Â Meh. no its not all sneaking about, you even go to hell at one point in the game, Doom keeps to original pricipals of blowing the shit out of demon's just sometimes you can hide in the shadows but the demons can still see you, lol resident evil. can i post the article scans? Winters 1 Posted July 16, 2004 I have the new PC Gamer and it gives an in-depth review of the game, it's sounding better and better although i will miss the Evil Tomato Demons I read about a new weapon called the Soul Stealer or something like that, you can only use it after killing 5 baddies with conventional weapons and then it "calls" to you to be used. When you kill a baddie with it you get the health from the baddie to replenish your own.
Norris 0 Posted July 16, 2004 The mother of them all?? I think it was the first fps with a multiplayer support. Yes, and it had join-in-progress *hint hint* Doom 1 was a total revolution in FPSs. It was the first time I missed school to play a game. But I'm really sceptical about Doom 3. Sequels rarely live up to the original.

Sorry, have you ever played the original Doom? Comparing the two in terms of gameplay is laughable. Original Doom - VERY fast paced, very hard, lots of weapons, HUGE amounts of enemies. Doom 3 - ITS DARK! And there MIGHT be two enemies on screen at one time!!!!!!!!!

Yes i have, you played Doom 3? i aint im just going on what people who have played it have said, i doubt carmack will deveate away from the original core of Doom. so you are saying doom3 should not be dark?? Â from what Hear Huge amounts of Weapons Fast Paced Lot's of enemies are all in there, so in some parts of the game are a little slower than other bit's, it was the same in Doom, tbh it's been a while but i never remember meeting more than 10 enemies on the screen. Frisbee 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Meh... Sure this isn't just a game made to push an engine? This is what I think about when I hear about a game from id, but yeah we'll see, it's not like I can run it anyway. On the top side, the graphics do look great, and the atmosphere is definetely there. Ah, and this is coming out on Xbox as well? Then my hopes are going down, let's dumb the game down to acommodate for people who need to play a FPS with a friggen' gamepad, recipe for disaster.
kegetys 2 Posted July 16, 2004 tbh it's been a while but i never remember meeting more than 10 enemies on the screen. Well either you havent played doom much or your memory isn't too good, since scenes like this were quite common in the harder levels... I really doubt Doom 3 will have that much monsters, and the levels seem to be built of much smaller rooms. Still, I'm really waiting to get to play Doom 3, and if its anything like its promised to be it will propably be very good, yet quite different than the original Doom... Based on the reviews, it seems to have similar things as System Shock, where you read logfiles from dead crewmembers to unfold the plotline and get new goals to do,. (and System Shock is pretty much the best game I have ever played ;))
shadow 6 Posted July 16, 2004 The mother of them all?? You must have missed Wolfenstein 3D. The first 3D shooter ever. Yes, Wolf3d was the first. But Doom was the first revolutionary first person shooter, taking the Wolf3d-concept to a whole new level. That's what I meant.
kegetys 2 Posted July 16, 2004 Yes, Wolf3d was the first. Catacomb 3D was before Wolf 3D ;)

Tovarish 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Yes, Wolf3d was the first. Catacomb 3D was before Wolf 3D ;) I remember that one! There was also Ken's Labyrinth, but that was shortly after Wolf 3D
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted July 16, 2004 There was another first person game before either, but it wasn't a shooter, it was some sort of D&D game IIRC
Phleep 0 Posted July 17, 2004 There was another first person game before either, but it wasn't a shooter, it was some sort of D&D game IIRC Ultima Underworld? Very impressive for its time.
