Lock on: modern air combat

Recommended Posts

I reinstalled Jane's USAF today to brush up on my modern avionics skillz, so that I won't be completely lost the first time I see an MFD in LOMAC. Fun game, too bad it has major issues with XP.

"wait, is that your job. I will start my mourning today. I wish I was u, but I bet u get to play CRAAAPy games like the sims online? Did u play half life 2 yet?"

I dont play Sims and no, I havent played Half Life 2. I only get to play the games published by my company. And we dont have Half Life 2, sadly.

"What is the usual bribe you take for sending someone like me one of the betas?"

Hehe, you wish ;P I like my job to much to do that though. Otherwise, a cookie would suffice. I am cheap that way.

"Ahhhh, so you're one of those guys who write the press releases that read like "From the Christlike makers of the groundbreaking, insanely popular Soldier of Fortune, comes the vaunted Soldier of Fortune 2, which is set to cure world hunger and make you 3 inches taller, and may in fact contain the collective hopes of humanity within its code. Coming soon to a fine retailer near you!""

No...I translate them though. Which usually means I have to cut out half of it to make it sound at least slightly realistic smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Thank you for the suggestion and the feedback.

The Mirage is being considered along with lots of other aircraft for possible add on products.

We've been in touch with reps from the defense industry for possible cooperation.

I appreciate the Dassault link. Have you know someone there or have you actually spoken to anyone with Dassault?

Cheers,

hmm ... no , taken a Falcon 100 once , but that's all tounge_o.gif

Dassault makes great private jets

look at this baby :

Yeah Conformal Fuel tanks seem to be in fashion these days:

<img src="http://216.120.233.2/zuisk7i5675/data/546/1HAF-F16-B52PLUS------40-med.jpg?1385">

IMHO they look ugly as sin though  tounge_o.gif

yeah , but you don't have to use all your weapon pylons to carry fuel pods smile_o.gif

the Rafale is already being fielded and won't have to pass through a long amelioration process to make it a real multirole aircraft unlike the typhoon tounge_o.gif

did you know the Rafale could carry 1.5 more ton of weaponary than the EF2000 eventhough it's almost a ton lighter ? the rafale also has a faster climbing rate and better avionics ?

Not gonna buy it until they put in Gripen.

I wouldn't hold yer breath  smile_o.gif

Why don't they put it in?

Read Tovarish's last few posts.

I don't see anything and I checked back to page 9.

I don't see anything and I checked back to page 9.

Let me recap what i wrote:

Quote[/b] ]You have to keep in mind that it isn't just a matter of getting the flight models right, but also all the avionics.

.

.

.

Hey, people want a realistic flight simulation but then they want to be able to add well modelled flyable aircraft every other week? it dosen't work that way . Consider yourselves lucky that the Su-27 and MiG-29 are no longer the only flyable planes.

.

.

.

remember that Eagle Dynamics is based in Moscow, Russia, and who else has realisticly portrayed the Su-27 or Mig-29 in a flight simm save for them in their Flanker series? No one. For me that's the draw, the Russian planes with honest to goodness Russian avionics and weapon systems. Now compare that with the number of F-15 and A-10 (not so recently for the A-10, but that was the reason that Western planes were even added) which have been made.

Now, there IS a possibility for more aircraft, but only in expansion form. The developers have hinted this would happen if Lo-Mac sold well enough. A likely candidate would be the F-18 - a single seat carrier fighter to counter the Su-33.

And what a Lo-Mac producer wrote:

Quote[/b] ]The Mirage is being considered along with lots of other aircraft for possible add on products.

We've been in touch with reps from the defense industry for possible cooperation.

Clear enough?

Yeah but how expensive is it?  biggrin_o.gif

I'm starting to sound like my father.

edit - WOW!!! wow_o.gif

that new Su-25 video had me bouncing in my seat

SAMs, AAA tracers look VERY cool

mmm...

knowing that the german never stop whining about the EF2000's price and also knowing the developpement of the bird lasted from the middle of the 80's to now ......

it might be a little bit cheaper than the rafale , but i'd prefer having a fully capable multirole fighter than a interceptor which makes a halfassed attack aircraft just able to drop unguided bombsin risky conditions

edit :

a rafale costs within 50 and 60 million euros while the Typhoon costs about 63 millions

the rafale is cpable of strinikg with anti-radar missiles , laser guided missiles , stand off missile , laser guided bombs and so on , while the EF2000 as it is now and as it will be first issued is just able to carry unguided bombs

Not to mention the CBU's exploding in the air and releasing bomblets....the suspension on the armour of all things...just look at how beautifully the suspension is modelled! and the damage model, I love the vapour trail from the wing after that close proximity detonation by a MANPAD. Best video yet biggrin_o.gif.

Oh and Naggin Nadya after he gets hit "Look at your instruments" biggrin_o.gif

holy shit that's awesome!

edit: wow, seeing that manpad arcing in just as he started his bomb run had to be absolutely terrifying- good thing it just nicked him. His aim could use some work though lol- not as if every other human being within 3 square miles was trying to kill him or anything.

Manpad shoulder-launched missiles track in on heat sources, so he was trying to make it was difficult as possible for the guys on the ground to get a solid lock on him. Besides, you don't get an RWR notification because it's a passive type of homing, so he was just covering his bases and making sure someone behind him didn't launch.

The tranche 3 Typhoons will be very formidable. The later version will be able to carry up to 8 ALARMS (The best Anti Radiation missile in the world to date) for a SEAD mission, and thats including a pair of outboard ASRAAMs, and 4 AMRAAM's (Hopefully Meteor soon) for self defense!

And having seen the avionic specs of the later versions, I am very, very impressed. The missile avoidance system, and laser jammer is particulary neat. (The intel guy still wouldn't tell me the RCS after I had plied him with beers. Bastard! )

Nah, there were 2 manpad launches as well, and one of them clipped him pretty good- that's what caused the fuel leak. Watch for the lazy smoke trails, theyre a dead giveaway.

the main word is "later" smile_o.gif

the later versions of the rafale will be great too , even more polyvalent , even more powerfull , even more economic

I remember being a kid and hearing my dad (ex Royal Netherlands Airforce pilot) tell me about how the EF2000 was obsolete before its first operational flight due to its idiotically long development. It is 1980's technology ....
