I have nothing against Arnold going into politics. Just because he's an action hero doesn't mean he's stupid. GO ARNOLD! unclesam.gif

If he has a good cabinet and listens to them then he could be a good governor, but he still has to win and looking at his competition he probably will.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/08/12/recall.simon/index.html

Quote[/b] ]SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- Republican Bill Simon, the recall candidate who lost to Gov. Gray Davis in the governor's race last November, said Tuesday that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a household name but a political "unknown."

he has a good point about Arnold being a 'novice' but so is he wink_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Simon said he would like a Bush endorsement, which he got last year, but he said he believed "the White House is hands off for the time being." On Friday, President Bush said he thought Schwarzenegger would make a good governor.

<snip>

Simon contended he is running against Gray Davis and not front-running movie star Schwarzenegger.

tounge_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]"This election really needs to be about an agenda. It needs to be about ideas, about a vision" for the state, which he said is on the verge of a "fiscal meltdown, to be quite honest, not unlike what New York City went through in 1975-'76."

idea? he had none back in last campaign. tounge_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Concerning a report that the Democratic legislature may repeal an automobile tax, possibly giving Davis a boost, Simon said, "It's just a shell game. What they're going to do is just swap taxes. You're talking about taxing the rich and talking about other forms of fees. So we'd have to campaign on full disclosure.... I plan, if I'm elected governor, to repeal the car tax my first day in office.

and idiocy rebounds! biggrin_o.gif

and this comment is from Sweden tounge_o.gif

it would be interesting to see the redults of this election. first, people should vote whether to recall graydavis or not and then if that passes, the cadidate with most vote wins the office. and they are all in one ballot. ghostface.gif

more news from the front:

Arnie's campaign team is now getting Warren Buffet, the billionair of Birkshire Hathaway, to be the adviser for economic policy. My comment is that it's not a bad choice, although i think his fame and fortune was somewhat of a factor in choosing.

Buffet criticized Bush's tax plant and Arnold's decision to make him the advisor seems to raise some eyebrowses in GOP. On the flip side, it's been said that many of Arnold's staffs are former staffs of former governor Pete Wilson. Wilson was the Republican governor who basically raised a lot of issues that pissed a lot of people off, and was considering running for presidency in 2000, but after getting practically no recognition from rest of the states decided not to.

Arianna Huffington's, a commentator, tax forms are raising eyebrowse on her action. She's been avid critic of corporate tax loopholes, and her last tax payment of $780 or so raises some credibility question. Her small taxes were incurred due to the fact that 1. her home is registerd as the business, and 2. her business(managing her publications) incurred loss of $400,000 last year, and under Federal tax laws she can claim it for deduction. so only tax she paid were $800 or so in state tax.

She was married(now divorced) to millionaire republican Michael Huffington, who pays her about $200,000 per year in child support. she and Michael has 2 kids.

The Tonight show with Jay Leno decided to give some air time to candidates.

Computerized voting machines that are going to be used are causing some controversy. ACLU is already gearing up to postpone the election through court intervention, due to the fact that not all voting will be carried out by computer. some stations will use scantron, and some counties will use computerized voting machines they have.

Unfortunately, one form of computerized voting machine is known to be prone to hacking and is under controversy. the machine is window based and according to those who examined the codes, there are several loppholes that can be exploited.

Hey cool a voting machine that keeps rebooting on you tounge_o.gif We here in the netherlands have had voting machine's for years now and it never goes wrong (well hardly ever and if it does its mainly a minor fuck up that does not damage the system as a whole).

We have everything manual in Sweden. You mark a paper with a pen and later it is counted by hand. But it's changing. Last local election (district level) here in Stockholm you could vote via internet. It is convenient but it kind of spoils the fun of voting.

For instance last county election election, I could not decide between two parties. In the end I made up my mind at the polling place when the representative of one of the parties was a really good looking chick.  wink_o.gif I shit you not, democracy rules  biggrin_o.gif Of course, when I came back from the voting booth, she was gone sad_o.gif

hehe you vote via internet? Isn't is unsafe? one hacker could easily decide which party's gonna win... crazy_o.gif

Your story about the last election made me think of another negative aspect of voting via internet: the party with best porn on their website wins! biggrin_o.giftounge_o.gif

Nah, you have a dual encryption system. One is a standard BankID system (standard system for internet bank access) and the other is a one-time pad system for which you get the key by normal mail. The second system is impossible to break. In combination, it's extremely difficult to abuse the system.

Man if voting could be done through internet here I think the vote participation would go up drastically. Another benefit of the Internet, that is when you don't have a blackout. ;)

sounds good. Is there an independent organization which organizes the whole internet election or may there be some kind of groups which could manipulate it?

BBC article - Arni got another actor for his campaign team.

Also:

Quote[/b] ]Meanwhile, former Diff'rent Strokes actor Gary Coleman - also a candidate - has been named as one of the contestants on TV game show Who Wants To Be Governor of California?

He will be joined by 22-year-old porn actress Mary Carey among the five hopefuls on the Game Show Network programme.

The five will battle it out in challenges that could include an obstacle course dodging lobbyists with briefcases of money.

The winner will be chosen by an online viewers' vote and will receive $21,200 toward campaign funds.

It seems that my sense of humour ends here... That's just too stupid even for me. Hope they don't start electing presidents like that...

I think it's the same organization that organizes the regular elections.  It's some government agency that is politically independent. It's probably safer than the manual voting.

But as I said it was an experiment.  I don't know when they plan to implement it on a larger scale.

Schwarzenegger is a very liberal for a repulican. I'm voting for the same person I voted for in the last election. Bill Simon. Simon's policies will help to bring back the thousands of businesses that have fled this state during Gray Davis' administration.

Schwarzenegger has said nothing about what he will do to fix this mess - because IMO, he has *no idea* of what to do.

well, then don't vote for Arnold. he is pro-control wink_o.gif

recent poll shows that Lt Governor Cruz Bustamante is in statistically same popularity as Arnold. Considering that he was a lesser known figure before the whole recall started, i say there is a good chance if the situation solidifies as is, he can suceed Davis.

I don't have much fondness for Bill Simon. He seems to be flaky and seem like a block headed rich kid. I really don't know much about his policies to deal with the current budget crisis other than some budget cuts of 16 billion dollars.
