I dont mind some "normal" smilies (those that existed before were fine) but these new, huge, animated ones are extremely distracting when you are actually trying to read or post something instead of just playing around. When is "baaaaaaaaaa!" ever going to be used apart from to spam? Welcome is helpful.... Whats the point of that music one, can you ever see it being used usefully? I really hate smilies with guns being fired, dunno why. Anyway, i think you need to select them carefully, i mean, green guy smiling, , when there is alread a smiling guy. That one is awesome though. In my country we have a saying that goes; "je moet een gegeven paard niet in de bek kijken". What it means is; you must not critisize something that has been given to you. Be happy with the new smilies and if you don't want them, don't use them. The following days we'll see a lot of smilies on the forum, because they are new, but give it a few weeks and people will get used to them and things will return to normal (limited smily use). I could set up proxomitron to replace them with text entries but that would be alot of work as theres so many of them. Most messageboards have a function to disable them easily but here that feature also disables the img tag images so it would be nice to have an option to only disable the smilies. Sorry to be the boo-man here but I pretty much agree with gandalf and gadger: The smileys should only be taken of one theme, I personally liked the old theme very much ( etc.) Also I personally think that a forum only needs some smilies to express you motion, as soon as smilies like etc. come up, the forum is predestinated to turn out into a kindergarten. I thought this forum tried to keep things mature and civilized but the decision to add these icons seems to have been made by a 12 year old. Get rid of them now! One smiley that is really missing is a real good old shy smiley. Not just a blushing one, but one that is smiling and slightly blushing at the same time, looking like a tricky little trickster, up to no good. But the sign ones such has this one are a disgrace and not apropriate here, useless and too big? And most new ones are not of the same style and are also a bit childish. I would especialy recomend the removal of this one, ive seen people start flaming eachother because of this emoticon many times in other forums. Not as good as having them with the ;) format instead of having the image , but at least they are less distracting without having to add more entries in the proxomitron filters. On another note, the smileys... well.. could be used in two ways, and one way will most likely not be liked by whoever it's aimed to . but since it's a wip, i'm not going to bitch about it, when things get out of hand because of smileys, I bet it'l be dealt with quick .
