Drill Sergeant 0 Posted August 12, 2003 I just had another cool thing happen in OFP. When my brother and I were playing on our LAN this morning my brother was attacking a squad of west troops he shoot a RPG at one of the west soldiers at under 20m and it hit the guy and he just kept running upside down an didn't even get hurt. Shortly after I order the AI driver of my squads URAL to come up and he just decided to drive into a building at full speed. After dammageing the ural a few of my men got out and he backed over them for no reason than he sped up and came strait for me and kept chaseing me. My brother decided a RPG dont the tail pipe of the ural would fix that AI and insted the guy got out of the truck and ran off. MAbe he had a little to much vodca last night. iNeo 0 Posted August 12, 2003 I think Milkman just called him johnny, look back a few pages of the origin of johnny. Yeah I read every single post in this thread last weekend But where did he get the name from? Just because it's common?
Skul 0 Posted August 12, 2003 It's a default name, like 'Bob'. Did you know the default name for the Scottish is 'Jimmy'? Before given a name, we're all called Jimmy! Even the women! [Gareth Gates must die]
Milkman 1 Posted August 13, 2003 The name Johnny? Well, if you watch the Simpsons, one of the episodes Principal Skinner has a Vietnam flashback. He is on a PBR, and a green recruit he has taken a liking to named Johnny is talking to him when all the sudden Johnny gets riddled with bullets. Principal Skinner says "Johnny? Johnny?! Noooooo Johnny!" And this all happens over the intercom and all the kids are like "What the hell?" Yes, it is a "common" name like John, but Johnny just sounds funnier. Usually you call the poor guy who dies in a war movie or  in a mp game or something Johnny. Usally is goes like this: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">Blah was killed (enemy fire) 1: DAMN, 3 is down! 5 (Sgt. Milkman): Nooooooo Johnny!!!!!! :P

Mister Frag 0 Posted August 17, 2003 This is one of those "What the hell?" kind of moments, and I managed to record it. I was playing the updated BAS Ranger Extraction SP demo mission, and because I was planning on recording it, I was playing at 800x600 instead of the usual 1600x1200, so I had a hard time seeing the enemy. Things were going poorly, and I lost most of the guys under my command. But we did manage to cover the extraction of the Rangers, and eventually I called for extraction. I ordered my remaining men into the chopper, but for some reason, they wanted to go to a house instead. I decided to fix that by getting into the chopper myself, and then ordering them in with me. Instead, shortly after I got in, the chopper took off without waiting for the remaining two men. Even more strangely, the pilot set down again not far from where I had popped smoke at the LZ, and he did it between the position we were holding and the remaining enemies. I foolishly assumed that maybe the pilot knew what he was doing, and that he was just repositioning to get closer to the other team members, and I expected them to get into their ride in a few second. Instead, the pilot decided to take off once again, again without being given any such orders. But he wasn't applying enough power. He's dragging the nose of the chopper, and I figured it is taking a lot of damage as a result. As the Blackhawk pitches over, I get ready to eject because I don't want to be part of this train wreck. Experience tells me to run and go prone so I don't get taken out by the explosion. When I turn around, and before I get a chance to drop to the ground, I'm surprised that the chopper did not blow up. Instead, he's doing a good impression of a lawn mower, choppering upside-down up the hill and away from me. Here is a link to the video in Windows Media Video format -- it's about 19MB. If you have a 1Mbps or faster connection, the video will stream. I also tried encoding the video using DivX 5.0.3, but the video came out much fuzzier and the file was still larger than the WMV file. The Frenchman 0 Posted August 18, 2003 This is a sad one. I had an Iraqi squad and two iraqi shilkas in this one against a Blackhawk on the Afganistan island. I was in the shilka. My crew members fired at the blackhawk but the dang thing shot out flares. () I told the other crew members to bail out before the blackhawk did a strafing run. I ran out and started shooting at the blackhawk. It started to smoke but nit go down. It shot a chain gun burst that too out 6 of my guys. That is when a machine gunner (Jason  ) shot a long burst at the head of the blackhawk. It struck the pilot and it crashed into the building. <img src="http://www.opflashpoint.org/images/screenshots/1491-The Frenchman.jpg" border="0"> (Yes that one machine gunner is Jason  ) But it was too late for Johnny: <img src="http://www.opflashpoint.org/images/screenshots/1489-The Frenchman.jpg" border="0"> http://207.44.144.11/boardimages/cry.gif/img] >100kb
Phleep 0 Posted August 18, 2003 hehe sounds like 5 is owed a round of applause. This just goes to show how good the AI in OFP is.the_unknown_one 1: DAMN, 5 is down! Noooooooo Jonnnnyyyy!! AI can be good, or it can be retarded. Good exaple of it doing something intelligence for once. I thought it was from the movie Short Circuit where the robot was nicknamed Johnny 5, but Milky brought it up so meh...
The Frenchman 0 Posted August 31, 2003 I remember this one multiplayer mission on the Zeus addon server with Frenchpoint addons. We had to rescue a few civilians and get to the other side of the river. There was a bunch of infantry in the village so I (machine gunner) went rambo and shot off 3 rounds. I ran into the town and was shot to pieces by a russian hiding by a house. Everyone else but Lupus[WD] and someone else was cut to pieces. The civilian told them to go on top of the mountain to rent a boat TO DRIVE DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. The boat was going down the mountain at 250.
ozanzac 0 Posted August 31, 2003 Both my episodes came from my LAN MP experiences. (I hate 56k ) First. I'm in an A10, buzzing around the southern valley on either Malden or Everon. I think it was Everon, and my mate, was Russian in a Hind... Anyway, we were swooping each other, using the cannon as best as we could, whilist our teammates were fighting it out on the ground. Basically, on our final swoop at one another, I came in a bit too low and only just missed a group of trees. I had to break up right to avoid them, and that was precisely where my mates hind was. BOOM.... We hit head on, right baove where our team mates were fighting each other on the ground. The explosion killed three on the ground and the time of impact was captured in a screenie from one of my mates in the Sniper view. The whole room erupted in laughter. I wish I transferred the pic. It's very amusing. Secondly, anytime you hit a chopper or jet going at full pelt with a Sabot from a Main Battle Tank always generates a big smile.
Plastic_boy 0 Posted August 31, 2003 The best OFP moment I experienced was in the early days when Winter Kolgujev had just come out. Me and my friend downloaded the map with the snow infantry and decided to have a little one on one via LAN We both chose sniper - I started at the northern part of a forest, him at the south. For the next 15 minutes it was complete silence from the two of us. All you could hear was the crunching snow and the background tundra noise. It was getting really tense towards 13 minutes, it seemed like i'd been scanning the area for hours - cautiously moving from cover to cover..... I suddenly remembered I hadn't looked left or right since I'd started - i'd focused all my efforts straight ahead! I slowly turned to the left..... OMG! There he was! He was lying down right next to me!!! Looking in the same area I had originally done!!!!! With the sudden shock and suprise I laughed out load - he then turned to face me! We both started firing at each other without using the scope, missing each time! *heart pounding* We then fumbled with the scopes and after what seemed like minutes I finally brought my scope to bear on his head! BANG! BANG! After a lot of laughing and shouting I went out for a cigarette. It was then I noticed my hands were shaking!
The Frenchman 0 Posted September 20, 2003 Must........save thread...... Ok, I was playing a CTI game on Nogova and I was left behind in between the factory and the one port city. So I start walking torward the factory since we knew the MHQ was there. Around 3 minutes later, I am near a gas station and there are mines everywhere and 5 dead russian soldiers and 3 dead US soldiers. No cars, "CRAP!" I say. edc 0 Posted September 21, 2003 Miracle in SW Nogova   Oooh, this was so cool.  Today I was messin around in the Mission editor, and made a quick little mission where there's a US convoy that gets attacked out in the desert of Nogova by Spetz Natz.  Well, anyway, I was the commander of one of the groups that would come rescue them.  I had 3 hummers, 1 Vulcan, and 1 bradley(what I was in) under my command.  Right when we got to the crest of one hill I saw a squad of spetz natz below.  I decided just to try to run past them since I wanted to get to the convoy ASAP. Well, about that time, one of the Mi-2's attacking the convoy got a little bored and meandered over towards me.  Right when I was almost at the spetz natz I saw, it fired a AT-3 at my track.  Life's a bitch, ain't it.  We were forced to bail out and three of us miracuosly survived the explosion. My legs were broken though.  Now we had to deal with the 10+ bad buys in front of us.  I killed maybe 3 or 4 and surprisingly the AI took the initiantive and killed the rest.  Again we all somehow survived.  By then the rest of my group had caughten up to me and I ordered my guys into the hummers, and we drove to the convoy.  By the time we got there, they were already rescued, but we had made it. edit: from the time we saw the spetz natz below us to the time me and my gunner/driver were in the hummers was probably less than 15 seconds. ozanzac 0 Posted September 21, 2003 I don't remember the name of the mission, but it's the one in the resistance campaign where Troska and his buddies have to destroy a russian V-80 (Ka-50) in the hanger at the airfield.....Anways, after me and the squad finished up wasting every last soldier and patrolling BMP in the base, instead of destroying the chopper (AKA Mission Objective), I decided to take it out for a ride, telling the group to halt on the runway whilist I carefully hovered the chopper out of the Hangar and too it for a quick fang. I had got about 50 m in the air when the sound of tracers wooshing by fillied my headphones.......*pharrrrrrk*, theres at least three shilkas just north of the airfield, doin the best they can to take me down, as well as a few T-80's and a T-72. So I say, hey, this might be interesting, and proceed to take the Shilka's out one by one, followed by the tanks. No problemo, peice of piss. It was a bit of a challenge, but not impossible. But theres still the sound of a shilka shooting at me, though from a very long disance. So I start heading in the direction of the tracer fire. I reach the source, and theres Three Shilkas and three other tanks in this town........ *Pharrrrrk again* I'm low on ammo and have been batle scarred from the shilkas, so I decide it's safer to put the bird down below a hill near the town, and take the the shilkas out with an RPG........ They had the town pretty well covered, but there was no infantry or visible snipers in the area, So I set myself up on the crest of a hill North East of the town in a very vulnerable position, but as night was on my side, I thought I'd be OK. I have one RPG, Three Shilkas and Three other tanks to take out. Knowing how vulnerable shilkas are to RPG's, I decide to take the Central Shilka out in the hope that the surrounding two would also blow from the blast. If it didn't work, I was in for a long walk back to the truck. (About 2 to 4 k's away)......BOOOOM, it worked, No shilkas and no air defence. I now ran back to my V-80 and used the remaining ammo to good effect, disabling the tracks on the tanks, forcing the crew out and killing them with the cannon. *Few* What a mission. Something around the lines of 15 armored units and their crews, plus the scores of infantry that we took out to gain access to the choppers, plus the chopper kills we made degressing from the area. The tally was huge. That was my favourite mission of all time. Pure, calculating Rambo style.
Jamesia 0 Posted September 21, 2003 I had fun on a CTI map today.... CTI everon...... Our commander decided to build our second base out on an island, focused on a air factory, so that we could fly onto the main island of everon. It was really really cool. Me and this guy decided to work together and go and attack the enemy base (as we knew where it was) so we both got full squads and he built a chinook and we loaded an M113 onto the chinook and flew over to just outside their base. Both squads jumped out the chinook, and then the chinook circled around the base providing air support. It was really really cool. Our squads completely kicked ass, and we managed to win the game through that and our squads only lost like 6 men between us. I love capture the island. its a perfect mod. Its like command and conquer but with flashpoint (which is amasing).
Stag 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Playtesting a mission where a squad of Royal Marine Commandos were hiding in a wood on Everon from the invading Red Hoarde. Enemy activity was low, so all they really had to do was lay chilly, identfy and observe the Motor Rifle Regimental HQ passing by. Then the Resitance triggered an ambush about 300 metres away. Within minutes the Soviet reaction force, Hinds and MI-17s were dropping troops all over the area. The only thing the bootnecks could do was to get out of the area. As the Squad leader of the Royals, I led the unit to the east side of the wood just in time to see a bunch of Sov infantry getting out of trucks. Engaging would be too expensive, so we went back into the wood and headed South. Back in cover I got seperated from the rest of the team. I intended to wait for them to catch up at the treeline, So I kept going, rounded a clump of bushes... And stood face to face with 2 enemy. I freaked, I just stood there and emptied the clip of my SLR in their direction, and managed to drop them both before they had a chance to fire back. I'd never actually blundered into AI before. Died plenty of times before I knew they were there, but nothing like this.
iNeo 0 Posted September 24, 2003 I played around in the mission editor, my team of 5 USMC soldiers were placed randomly on a distance around the ruins in the desert east of the main airport on Nogova. An opfor mechanized squad was on Hold waypoint at the ruins, with three 3-man patrols randomly placed around the ruins, like my own team. So my team was spawned north of the ruins. We headed to the ridge over-looking the ruins and spot one 3-man patrol a few hundred meters away. I tell 4 and 5 to engage them, but one enemy gets away by running to the ruins, so I have 4 and 5 disengage and return to formation. Now the main guarding opfor squad knows our location and the BMP releases a HEAT-shot 1-2 meters ahead of me. I am protected from the blast as it hit the front of the ridge but it catches 4. Opfor squad re-groups and half of them advance up the ridge with a speeding BMP clearing their way. 5, the only one in the team with a LAW launcher, gets the order to engage the BMP, and he moves out from the cover of the rocks. #5 (Johnny ) launches a rocket at the BMP from five-ish meters and the blast doesn't only take out the BMP but also the soldiers it came with. Now 2, 3, 5 and I move down the ridge, take out two soldiers by the ruins from half-way down. As I take cover behind a dead enemy's corpse, I order 2, 3 and 5 to move down to the seemingly empty ruins to secure it. One by one, they are shot by one remaining enemy soldier, hidden by the ruins. I throw a grenade that doesn't really reach down, so I walk closer and see him picking up a grenade looking at me. I run to the other side of his ruins and take cover from the grenade, the blast barely injures me at all. I find myself in the line of fire of the now prone soldier, I side-step into cover while shooting bursts at him and getting shot at. I pick up a nade and throw it over the ruins (three-ish meters), wait for the blast, and walk up to his corpse. Not exactly amazing, but I liked Johnny's BMP-shot and the last fire fight I had. m21man 0 Posted September 25, 2003 I was playing the "Occupation" mission, and after killing at least 20 (Probably more like 30 to 40) Soviets at the chateau, I was running around and gathering ammo. I ordered everyone out and was having them run around grabbing good stuff like AK-74+GLs and PKs, when for whatever reason, one of my guys seemed to suddenly vanish. Where was he? Well, I found out when he landed right in between me and a medic. I was so startled that I mashed down on the trigger of my AK, which resulted in the death of about 4 of my soldiers. The remaining troops promptly spun around and riddled me with bullets.
