Contact Expansion Translation Feedback

Recommended Posts

Arma 3 Contact will be localized and translated to the standard Arma 3 languages. In order for our localization team to effectively process feedback, we'd like to ask for your language-specific notes in this thread (or on Feedback Tracker of course). The first iterations of translations are starting to arrive to Dev-Branch, however, we should point out that our own localization testing in all languages is only just beginning. General expansion feedback is discussed in this thread.

Please include the following information where possible:

  • Language (Czech, German, Polish, etc.)
  • What is wrong? (including any incorrect text)
  • What is your proposal?
  • Reproduction steps
  • Screenshot(s)

Thanks!

How about "лесной" or "лесистая местность"?

Hello. When using modules of support by Russian special forces, the report of the headquarters on the readiness of the troops takes place in farsi.

I hope this deficiency will be eliminated.

  • Simplified Chinese;
  • "侦查掷弹兵"(unit name of O_R_Recon_GL_F);
  •  Should be "侦察掷弹兵".

In Chinese, "侦察"=reconnaissance, "侦查"=investigation.

  • Simplified Chinese;
  • "机组成员"(unit name of L_E_Crew_F);
  •  Should be "乘员".

"机组成员" is a term to describe a crew of an airplane (and airplane only).

When referring a crew of an APC/Tank in Simplified Chinese, we use "乘员" instead.

  • Simplified Chinese;
  • "生化核辐(CBRN)专家"(unit name of I_E_Soldier_CBRN_F);
  •  Should be "核生化专家" or "化生放核专家".

Okay, this is a complicated one.

Mainland Chinese military (i.e., the PLA) never use the term "CBRN", instead, they use "NBC"(核生化). This does not match the original word (CBRN) literally, because it omits the "R(adioactive)".

Taiwanese military (i.e., the ROCA) translate "CBRN" as "化生放核". This word is only used in traditional Chinese but it matches perfectly to the term in English.

Neither of them translates the word as "生化核辐". I googled "生化核辐" and only found results related to Rainbow Six Siege.

So my advice is "核生化专家"; if it is not good enough, use "化生放核专家" instead.

  • Simplified Chinese;
  • "侦察任务演示专家";
  •  Should be "侦察破障手".

The translator, apparently, wrongly understand the "demo specialist" as the abbreviation of "demonstration(演示) specialist", not "demolition(破障) specialist".

The same problem appears in all the factions and DLCs.

  • Russian
  • Костюм "Гранит - Б" (ветхий) (U_O_R_Gorka_01_brown_F)
  • Better to be "Костюм "Гранит - Б" (поношенный)",  or "Костюм "Гранит - Б" (выцветший)"

"Ветхий" is a extremely old state, not just colored-out after washer

Polish language:

dobrotliwy wąż

it's one of quotes on mission loading screen; about river Biela if I remember correctly; weak translation imo, it sounds like from cartoon not like a name from legend story; my suggestions: życzliwy wąż, dobry wąż but hard to translate without knowing the context - River Biela, Snake, Legend in Livonia map.

Japanese

  • "ハイウェイの橋台" (Land_Highway_Pillar_01_F)

Why is this translated into Japanese with katakana? The Castle is translated to "城", The Statue is translated to "像". but why that's translated with kana? Should'be translated to "高速道路~" for more unified translation.

  • "測定~" (Land_SurberyMarker_)

"測定" meant "measurement" in English, so it's must be "測量" (survey).

  • "上級モジュラーヘルメット" (H_HelmetHBK_)

The "Advanced" have meaning the "上級" but it's doesn't suitable for equipment. because "上級" is representation the level like an ranks. I think "先進型" (Advanced) is more suitable translation for equipment.

  • "潜水マスク" (G_RegulatorMask_F)

The translation is complete wrong. It's meaning "Diving Mask" in English. it's must be "酸素マスク" if think about the use environment.

  • "大煙突" (Land_Smokestack_)

Sounds like an explanation like a symbol of something. It's not wrong translation but not good. Why wouldn't translated to "煙突 (大)" ? my proposal is more following other translation. for example, a Large Garage is translated to "ガレージ (大)".

  • "サイレージの貯蔵庫" (Land_SilageStorage_01_F)

this object is like an place so it's should be use "場".  my suggestion is "サイレージの貯蔵場".

  • "無電技師" (I_E_RadioOperator_F)

Nobody doesn't use this non-modern word and odd translation, also it seems like a kind of occupation, not a role of military. It's must be "無線手" or "無線通信手" in Military theme.

  • 軍学者 (I_E_Scientinst_F)

WHAT!?🙄 The translation is wrong. It's meaning "Scholar" or "scholastic" in English. it must be "軍科学者".

in the livonia, why location name "mil" is doesn't have localized? any other same "brown location name" has localized but that's doesn't. or just leaving it as it is with source language due to use in campaign like as Port Blue Pearl?

Polish. Class names.

Polish names:

NATO
NATO (las)
NATO (Pacyfik)

Would be better to have:

NATO (Leśny) = NATO (Woodland)

Edit:

Oh... No polish letters I guessing...

... Drewniany ? 😆

Hello.

Russian voiceover:

1. When you command a group and order to regroup (~ / 1/1), the group commander says: "Retreat.". - this command is not entirely correct, more precisely, it is not true. Indeed, in the Russian localization in the context menu it is written: “Regroup”, and not “Retreat”. Please correct this.

2. Similarly - when you command a group and order to move crouching (~ / 7/7), the commander commands: "Do not lean out" - like the first one, this is not a correct translation.

In both cases, the name of the item in the context menu is correct, and the voice acting is not correct.

Chinesesimp campaign localization for Captain Severov:

Translated as "塞韦罗夫上尉", which is not correct.

In Chinese, when referring to Russian/Soviet/Japanese/Korean Army ranks, "captain" shall be translated as "大尉".

Therefore the correct translation should be "塞韦罗夫大尉".

Specialist Aiden Rudwell:

"Specialist" is translated as "专家" (still in Chinesesimp), which is not correct.

As a rank for US Army enlisted personnel, a "Specialist" should be translated as "专业军士".

In mission 2, after you leave the dump / burning area, the other NATO guy is speaking to the player and says "don't shoot anybody".

In French, it has been translated by "Ne butte personne" whereas it should be "Ne bute personne" (only 1 "T")

Butte is a very small hill.

Bute means kill.

Thanks for fixing that.

Audio files, Polish language, Contact, Carpe Noctem mission, LDF Gray Wolf - Foxtrot radio com:

"Acknowledge. If it attacks, what's our ROE? Over." - in polish ROE was translated to something funny, not even close, can't remember now.

Suggestion, by the wiki page:

eng. Rules of Engagement, ROE

pol. Zasady podejmowania działań przy użyciu siły.

shorter:  Zasady użycia siły.

or better to just put some static noise on top of that part in audio file...

I found this for a second time and all is fine. Now I'm not sure is it same audio recording, I believe it is the same so I could hear something wrong.

Ok, thank you very much everybody, much appreciated. Most of the above (if not all) mentioned reports will be fixed in 1.96 (as long as it was only a text change, cannot do anything about the audio), with the exception of the CBRN issue in Chinese simplified reported by pavel volonsky, which is something I have to dig deeper on.

Thank you again, you guys are great!

Regarding this one - although we appreciate your feedback, we will be keeping the term as it is. Here is the reasoning of our translation team:

Yes, this is a new military term for Chinese audience. The commonly used one is NBC (核生化) but the meaning for R (radiation) is missing in this term. Anyway, I had done some research on the  Internet and found that 核生化辐 (CBRN) were adopted among Chinese audience. I think there is no need to update the translation to 化生放核 as this word does not read so naturally than 核生化辐.
