Iron Front in Arm3 LITE - preview versions

Recommended Posts

@TheAbsoluteUnit IFA3 Liberation is not related to our project. So no on that.

Animation and sound improvements are coming later this year.

@nikiforos Rylan from our team has developed a set of custom terrain lightings for different themes.

However its a very tricky topic - you have personal preference, its hard to tweak, you have to make compromises, plus certain changes require also adjustment in SAT texture as well as buildings.

Atm in our internal build we are back to standard Enoch lighting as our terrain designers prefer that (due to multiple reasons - among them being used to Enoch and having built the terrains with that setting in mind).

@.kju and team, congrats with all the work done. With the move from the LITE version to the new steam release, should we expect previously built missions to still run using the Second wave; any immediate mission breaking changes, eg changes to asset names and associated config entries? I literally only make WW2 missions for my community using only IFA,  so looking forward making IFA missions for 2022. Here's a recording of one such mission, not my recording tho.

Nothing has changed, IFA3 has been on steam for many years already but their update a while back bugged with steam, so the "new"

steam page isn't really new its the mod on a new steam account.

All your missions should work as nothing was changed. If there were an update that would change something then a change in classnames

or something related would prevent a mission from not loading or working because their using different assets. I wouldn't worry about it

if they do update there would be a long changelog posted.

To our community,

We are following up on our previous announcement regarding the upload of the new IFA3 official mod finally being available on Steam Workshop. For those of you who are not up to date as to what happened to the previous Official upload and why it took so long to resolve the situation, this post is to bring everyone up to speed.

Two months ago we experienced a critical issue with the Steam workshop page when pushing a small hotfix update of IFA3 on our original Steam hosting account. As a result the workshop page became hidden to the public even though it was still effectively ‘there’ for those already subscribed. We attempted to contact Steam support and correct the issue, restoring the workshop page to the public but to no avail.

This created a dilemma for the team: Wait and hope that the situation could be resolved and hold onto the workshop item with all of its current subscribers, or to create a new account to host the new official IFA3 mod download and start the long journey of getting the word out to the community of the big change to happen.

After too many weeks of hoping that the former would come to fruition, it became apparent that the confusion created amongst the community wondering what was happening was far more detrimental than simply hitting the reset button and starting again. This was especially disappointing timing given the planned release of our long awaited improved texture update to IFA3. To start the new workshop item merely weeks from the exciting updates is beyond frustrating for the team, but if no one can see the item then what is the point?

For more info regarding our upcoming ‘Second Wave’ release, you can read about it here:
One page back

We have been monitoring discussions and comms chatter throughout all of this, and have noticed that the situation has created a lot of confusion and apprehension, questions pertaining to the status of the project, whether the IFA3 mod pack still exists and will continue to do so in the future, and most importantly:

Where the hell can I get it?

New Official page: IFA3 AIO

We do apologise for the long delay in providing this, but hope that this information will help shed some light on the behind the scenes thoughts processes involved. Which brings us to the meat of a second issue we would like to address.

In the wake of the new Official IFA3 workshop item being available to players, it has come to our attention that versions of the mod have been re-uploaded by several community members in an attempt to help mitigate the situation for their groups and events.

Please note: Our team does not view these actions as malicious or ill-intentioned. We understand that people from the community were trying to all contribute towards solving the mod unavailability issue with the same goal. We would like to thank all for the continued support and enthusiasm the community has shown towards our project.

However, now that we do have the new official workshop mod page for IFA3 up and running, we will be seeking to engage steam users who have hosted duplicate copies and kindly ask them to remove their re-uploads. We implore those steam users to not take this as a punishment or reprimand; more as a ‘thumbs up’ and ‘we can take it from here’.

This is not intended at all as a DMCA/IP flex, but to provide clarity for IFA3 subscribers and avoid confusion throughout our planned release schedule for 2022. Having multiple versions available on the workshop creates a situation where we are tracking issues spread across many mod variants on different version subsets. Spending time trying to track bugs that have been fixed three versions ago because some users are not current to our latest build becomes frustratingly like chasing our tail and will only slow our progression.

Additionally, this would only serve to confuse and impact the player experience as we can foresee situations where hosted missions are complicated by users being subscribed to different workshop items, and resulting in frustrating ‘who has which mod, link it to me’ troubleshooting. By having only the one official version available on the workshop allows us to maintain and provide the smoothest player experience.

We cannot wait to show you what the future of IFA3 will look like throughout the course of 2022 and thank you all for your continued patience during these testing times.

The old link (from Steam) to IFA3 is broken (page not accessible) but seems to be updated.

Anyway, I downloaded the link above for IFA3 official. Then I had two possibilities from launcher but I remarked the volume was strictly same (the only difference is authors' name), so I decided to clear the former one. Doing that, the former link disappeared and the new one was broken. I had to repair the link (not reload) to make it work.

@HBAOplus unfortunately this is not possible as we no longer can set dependencies for the original upload

we are reaching out to popular mods and missions to update their dependencies to our new upload though

@pierremgi See the announcement from stabcon above.

We will change the modfolder name with the next update to avoid the duplication issues in the Arma 3 launcher.

Would this break any mod dependencies?

E.g. I am using "GEIST-A3 LITE". In the launcher it shows the old IFA-mod as a prerequisite. However, it still loads when using only the new one.

The Geist Authors (Joarius and i forget the other guys name) need to just swap out the link on their page.

According to their comments on the page they plan on updating their mod when the 2nd wave (update) for IFA3 is released

but regardless i like many others still get the missing mod in red in the launcher because Geist need to change the link

to the current IFA3 page.

Of course because its the same mod just on a new workshop page.

IFA3 Second Wave - ‘Winterstorm’

The IFA3 team are proud to announce our second  texture update for this year, codenamed ‘Winterstorm’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Winter_Storm). This time around we are pushing into the blistering chill of the Eastern front, with the German and Soviet factions facing off in their bids for supremacy in this theatre.

Please note that not all textures will be updated in this release.

The update is scheduled to occur tomorrow and is not live yet.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2648308937

All units, uniforms, assets and vehicles within the Winter Wehrmacht and Winter Red Army are included in this visual upgrade, as well as Winter versions of objects used in the respective terrains. This update will be backwards-compatible for all of your existing missions. This is purely a texture update, as seen from the previous update - so all classnames remain unchanged.

No new assets will be included in this release package, but we would like to shout out and direct you all towards some very well crafted terrains from within the arma community:

Temppa - Summa

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1598087521

Temppa - Ihantala

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1494127420

EO - Lighting patch Vidda

Vectif - Djalka

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1990519900

CUP team - Winter Chernarus

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=583544987

Be sure to keep your eyes out for the winter terrains available from within the IFA mod release as well. We hope this gives you plenty of ideas to work with for your upcoming missions and multiplayer campaigns.

We are happy to present these texture updates to our community and can’t wait to see how you utilise them in your own missions and campaigns. If you would like to contribute feedback and help us identify issues, you can join our discord here:

Thanks for your continued support of this project and we look forward to presenting you with future updates!

At least for me, this MOD is now unplayable, i get the following error on startup and then game crashes.

bin/config.bin/cfgworlds/ SWU_Aachen_Outskirts/EnvSounds/CFGEnvSpatialSounds/: Cannot find base class 'CFGEnvSpatialSounds'

This started 2 days ago but the odd thing is that 3 days ago, everything worked fine. I literally woke up the day after and suddenly Im getting this error message followed immediately by the game crashing.

The only thing that I can see as being the issue is that according to the mod screen on startup, there was apparently an update possibly.

Ive also deleted the mod and tried downloading again yet the same thing occurs. I also tried the "Lite" version and that too generates the exact same error message.

Any suggestions?
