Bornholm, Denmark [Terrain]

So everyone else is having issues then?

I finally got around to trying this map out, and the game locks up, or the frame rate is in the single digits. Bummer. Was really looking forward to trying this one out. After one of the last big updates, the game is kinda buggy now. Noticed this on Altis as well. So this is a game issue then, not Bornholm?

Awaits the inevitable ," your pc is shit comment"... however, I have NEVER been able to truely enjoy this map.... Every other map in ARMA 3 has a decent FPS in the editor, with NO units or anthing on it...

This map however, Even with NOTHING ON THE MAP..

i get less then 10 fps...

quite a shame.

I have deleated if from my SSD because it, for me, is completely unplayable....

again, awaiting the , " your pc is shit " comments.....

So this is a game issue then, not Bornholm?

Before the last ArmA update the map was perfect, ran lovely and just worked, after the update it became unplayable, it works for a while and then the clouds go funny, changing my settings to low and then back up fixes it but then it happens again.

Either the update broke it or something BI changed now clashes with it, strange though seeing how it won in the ManW comp.

The map is heavy on resources, it's performance is worst than Chernarus and Altis. BUT, FPSs under 10 is not normal, far from it. I have an average PC and took the hit, but the FPSs never went down below 30. Since the map have technical issues, my best guess is one of them is taxing you PC more than it should. May you have some video setting most of us don't use, conflicting with one of Bornholm's oddities.

I just do not understand why this island wins 30000€ in this arma contest ,it give's more qualitatively higher Maps as these.Or must have mods like Blastcore,which would have more deserved.

Hi, i cannot get the alive support module to work on this map at all. Anyone else had this issue?

It's not the video settings, definitely something up with the map

Blastcore and Bornholm would be in two completely different categories anyway. The BIS devs liked Bornholm, so they chose it.

In short, I was saying it's both, some people's video setting, combined with one of the map technical issues.

Does anyone use alive with this map? If so, how do you get the combat support modules to work? I have tried all sorts and it just wont work. The tablet comes up and i choose cas, vehilce, and the task but thats it. The plane or chopper just wont take off once i mark it on the map and press confirm.

Just wont work at all.

I can confirm that bornholm addon will conflict with ALiVE,. huge performance lag.

Just wont work at all.

I haven't had a problem with Bornholm not working with Alive, however if you do use Alive on this map your FPS will take a massive hit, and if you add in civilian population, there are so many settlements it will crash your game.

Yeah, unfortunately my group also experiences performance issues, I'm starting to think the recent update for ArmA must of changed something regarding Bornholm's performance. Which is a shame, the map is very amazing.

We've sadly been unable to get it to work with decent performance either.

Not for want of trying, but with @alive or not, frame rates for most people in our group have been too low to make it totally playable.

And there does seem to be a conflict with AiATP or other maps, it crashes the game.

Hmm that's interesting to say the least. Don't really know what happened with the conflicts. Generally it is advised to not have several terrain mods active, even though they should actually conflict.

I have been working a bit on Bornholm in the pasts month, but only here and there. I've managed to cut down 39,000 trees which should definitely help towards better performance. Bear in mind though, that since day one Bornholm have always been more lush and filled with vegetation than your standard Altis map, as the nature of Bornholm is more lush. I don't know. Maybe there are some wise guys out there who could update the vegetation files, so they each take up less polygons (stress) on the map?

So the thing is that I'm having less and less time. I was wondering how the best way would be to publicly give access to the source files, so everyone can contribute to continuing updating Bornholm? It should be in a way so that no one should do double work, everyone with the patience could contribute, and so that everyone can benefit from it. What's the best approach, do you think?

I'm planning on releasing the Bornholm 1.4 MANW version soon, and along with that the source files, so others can continue the work (if you like) :)

I ain't no specialist, as I mainly work alone, but I'd say first, find a good, reliable and motivated team leader (well, if your intention is to take some distance with the modding, that is).

After that, either dev heaven or Github are most likely the best platforms for this kind of stuff.

You might want to get in touch with Kju if you are looking for good advice on this stuff. ;)

I was going to suggest CUP... the guy doing their maps is the caretaker of Sahrani and has done a superb job of maintaining it and working with others to upgrade it. He will eventually build it back into the new CUP terrains pack.

+ The Addons (Buildings/Roads) too? (Mlod maybe?)

Don't get me wrong, but there are so many error with - for example - the hitbox of the tree's, wrong animations for Housedoors, etc. we would like to fix.

Version 1.4 of Bornholm for Arma 3 MANW Edition is here!

Changelog:

Optimized terrain by removing 39,000 trees to make the terrain less taxing on the CPU

Added a few hidden mine shafts near Hasle

Fixed jump bug near Oestermarie Airfield

Changed satellite colors to give it a more fresh and lush appearance

Changed grass textures to match grass objects better

Apart from this I present you the source files for the terrain, the textures, the models and the config files. Everything you need to continue developing this terrain. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to commit and continue my self, so here's the chance for you guys to keep working on it if you like :)

Two things to note! 1) Always keep it under the Arma Share alike license. 2) Please don't dilute the terrain by making several different variations. Instead try to help each other so there's almost only one version out there. End players don't want to have a evening ruined by having downloaded different versions, so please respect this.
