theevancat 277 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Welcome to Battledress A3: one man's quest to provide time-honored classic uniforms to the Arma 3 community, free of charge! I've seen quite a few mods here that have people like African militias wearing the AAF Crye gear. Now, there's nothing wrong with AAF Crye gear, but sometimes there needs to be something a little bit more oldschool for those folks. This is where BDA3 comes in. As I work on it in my free time, I will be focusing on porting and releasing the data so that new uniforms will be available to anyone in a raw format for any of their editing needs. If you want to put them in your mod without any dependencies, go do it! This also removes the need to download all of something like AiA's data: why strangle your Internet with gigabytes upon gigabytes (and a mod dependency), when you can use this instead? The uniforms are going to be just that: uniforms. A2 vests will be stripped away whenever possible (typically by porting the unarmored officer units) to allow the A3 vest system's customizing to work. Another thing to note is that these uniforms aren't going to be direct ports, meaning that in the future I plan to add detail to them to better match A3 standards. Pockets on A2 uniforms are often just textured on, for example. Why not make the model a little bit more detailed and add the pockets there? And, of course, since this is opensource, anyone can help. If you have any contributions, post them here. Go ahead and do so. I'm not stopping you. Take a model and make it better, or port something different. So thus far, the only thing that I have to prove that I'm not a lazy, procrastinating bum is the USMC MCCUU battledress. It needs to be ironed out, but it's in game: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/577901446698307839/18C38B96147644E6E85EBE519AFAF168A3AAFBB6/ http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/577901446698825752/77ABA5B38B6DD350FDFEA637DDE7689AD36D8257/ Here's what I've got so far. Includes a config that adds a "model" for the uniform. Drongo69 117 Posted July 4, 2014 This would be a big help to the community. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing your work.
evromalarkey 150 Posted July 4, 2014 This could be really welcome, because this is one area which is missing. We have weapons, few vehicles but no proper factions and uniforms from Arma 2. So if you port all of the Arma 2 factions, god bless you! Also you should consider to share this with CUP project - http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?169933-Community-Upgrade-Project&highlight=community+upgrade+project

alduric 10 Posted July 4, 2014 I can share few parts from my Uniforms Ports and helmets & vests. Im waiting for your 1st release.
Bibou42 10 Posted July 5, 2014 Getting more variety in terms of uniform would be very great!!! BTW, are you going to resize them according it the arma3 sample model? To my opinion, that's one of the thing which is often lacking with port: people often just redo basic config work, ignoring that arma2 soldiers models are too "square-shaped" compared to arma3, if you know what I mean... Up for the open source!

Up for the open source! Yeah, that's the plan. At the moment my mod tools broke and I'm trying to fix them (things have to be difficult) so I'm not making too much progress. But I put up what I have thus far.
Ckrauslo 12 Posted July 6, 2014 Can you port The marines uniform from a2 not The officers one, but The one with The boots under The pants, with knee pads, or is not possible to remove The vest and helmet?
zukov 489 Posted July 6, 2014 i used this port to try the old gear in arsenal http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=23989 but only the russian chest rig and some helmets fit it well to A3 model character the textures quality is clearly low compared to a3 vests and uniforms worth to porting, some stuffs from BAF and ACR
PolyG 69 Posted July 9, 2014 Our mod, (NB_USMC) Has already done the helmets, vest can NOT be removed without completely remodelling the torso, else it would have been done so by someone other than hotshotmike, sorry :(
theevancat 277 Posted July 9, 2014 Our mod, (NB_USMC) Has already done the helmets, vest can NOT be removed without completely remodelling the torso, else it would have been done so by someone other than hotshotmike, sorry :( However, the selections means that I can copy paste the officer torso onto the soldier pants. It'all be easy.
theevancat 277 Posted July 10, 2014 So if someone could help me path textures better, that'd be great. They show up as black in the materials editor but say they don't load in game?

theevancat 277 Posted July 11, 2014 Okay, here's some progress on the first release. First off, I went in and smoothed it all out in Blender hoping it would look a bit nicer. It does, sort of. Still showing its age but maybe that can be fixed by some extra faces to weigh around the joints. Anyways, shadows are fixed for the most part. The only issue is that weapons are above the hands, but that can be fixed by moving the proxies down (I think.) http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/577901446698307839/18C38B96147644E6E85EBE519AFAF168A3AAFBB6/ http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/577901446698825752/77ABA5B38B6DD350FDFEA637DDE7689AD36D8257/ Still have no idea what's up with the blank spots. I think it's because those faces haven't been UV mapped to the rest of their neighboring points. Will have to try. Anyways, here's data for the update. http://www.mediafire.com/download/jm9awenn7fnu9iz/Battledress_A3.zip Once again, it includes an example unit all set and wearing the uniform if you .pbo it. sorophx 25 Posted July 18, 2014 I wonder if it would be easier to model your own basic uniform and get a high res texture from one of the artists here
theevancat 277 Posted July 18, 2014 I wonder if it would be easier to model your own basic uniform and get a high res texture from one of the artists here  You know, I've done that. The problem is weighting. That's my downfall. These ones already have the selections ready to go.
