Laqueesha 474 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Very good! The UCP texture is probably the best I've seen yet, saturation-wise. Looks realistic under a variety of different lightings. If only there was an ACH/MICH helmet, then it would be perfect! :) What kind of help do you need? Edited June 30, 2013 by Laqueesha

Defunkt 431 Posted June 30, 2013 These look super-good, well done. Would be a great option to replace the US Army units from Arrowhead in AllInArmA, at least until we start seeing some actual contemporary unit mods for A3 (even then I'd be tempted to keep using these because the textures work so well). Glad to hear! If only there was an ACH/MICH helmet, then it would be perfect! :)What kind of help do you need? I got help from Stiltman with getting the units in their correct category in the editor :D I do need help with getting their velcro patches right. If they are used the wrong way that is. I did look at pictures, but I have no real idea if I am using them together in a acceptable way. Left shoulder is ISAF and Airborne patch. Right shoulder is a US IR flag, square with diagonal lines, US ARMY tag. /edit Stiltman also pointed out that they were using the wrong pistol ammo. My fault because the .45 pistols did not have that kind of ammo in the dev build at that time. It was using 9mm. Also got pointed in the right direction considering the broken uniforms. Stiltman is one helluva guy. I will try to update asap. I'll let you know when it is. Edited July 1, 2013 by AlexVestin
Laqueesha 474 Posted July 1, 2013 Left shoulder is ISAF and Airborne patch. Right shoulder is a US IR flag, square with diagonal lines, US ARMY tag. Ah, yes. I noticed that the patches (173rd Airborne) on the left sleeve are the wrong color. They are green and brown, when they should be more of a silver-ish gray. Stiltman also pointed out that they were using the wrong pistol ammo. My fault because the .45 pistols did not have that kind of ammo in the dev build at that time. It was using 9mm. Also got pointed in the right direction considering the broken uniforms. Stiltman is one helluva guy. I noticed the sidearm ammo as well. Unfortunately, the only sidearms in the game are the Walther, the Yargyin (I think), and the ACP-C2, neither of which are used by regular U.S. Army infantry. You know if the rest works? I don't really know what the square patch means as of now, but it seemed fitting. I noticed the sidearm ammo as well. bad benson 1733 Posted July 1, 2013 very nice work. i was wondering when someone would do that. you did a damn fine job! they actually look like properly updated arma 3 versions of the AO us soldiers. your camo texture just looks right in every way.

Laqueesha 474 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) You know if the rest works? I don't really know what the square patch means as of now, but it seemed fitting. It's the patch of the American 3rd Infantry Division. If a patch is on the right sleeve, it's it means the soldier fought with that unit in battle before. Right-side patches are called "combat patches" as a result. Usually, the soldier's rank would go where that patch is now, but there's no way to sync the rank patch with the in-game rank like in VBS2. So, you might have lieutenants with PFC chevrons if that were the case. To fix this, I have opened up a ticket feature requesting that the rank method from VBS 2 be implemented into ARMA 3. I thought the .45 would do the job for now. .45 is just fine, as it's an American firearm, unlike the Walther and Grach. :) Edited July 1, 2013 by Laqueesha

I hope others here feel like doing it as well. I updated the download link with some small fixes like the correct pistol ammo and the left shoulder patch should be of a more appropriate color. Uniform cargo not working is the only real problem not fixed, yet. Edited July 1, 2013 by AlexVestin

freakjoe 3 Posted July 1, 2013 Usually, the soldier's rank would go where that patch is now, but there's no way to sync the rank patch with the in-game rank like in VBS2. So, you might have lieutenants with PFC chevrons if that were the case. To fix this, I have opened up a ticket feature requesting that the rank method from VBS 2 be implemented into ARMA 3. There actually might be a way to sync the ingame rank with the one on the uniform. There would need to be a polygon where the rank is supposed to be showing ( in the uniform model ) and it'd need to be defined as a hiddenSelection. Now a texture would have to be made for every rank. Whenever the uniform is used ingame, you could have it read the rank of the player using it and then define the texture for the hiddenSelection as needed. I hope that what I'm saying here is somewhat understandable. Back to the main topic though : Really nice looking uniforms.
HitmanTwoActual 188 Posted July 1, 2013 Does anyone know the problem VAS has with the uniforms? The only things in there are the Helmet and the vests. I also encountered a problem where when I try loading a saved loadout with the ACU on, it will crash my game.
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Usually, the soldier's rank would go where that patch is now, but there's no way to sync the rank patch with the in-game rank like in VBS2. You make an init script to check assigned rank of a unit using the rank command (or more recently, rankId may work), then make it use setobjecttexture on the particular hiddenselection to assign a texture that corresponds with the given rank. There were several addons made for Arma games where the rank insignia changed based on the assigned editor rank using the above method, with results that were visually no different to VBS2. We had a system to do it on the UKF infantry back in OFP, as did FDF mod and AFAIK BWMOD did it for Arma 2 along with a couple of others (OFrP perhaps). However, the challenge you face here in Arma 3 is that the rank insignia is normally located on the vest model, which unlike VBS2 is a separate entity to the uniform model and AFAIK you cannot apply setobjectexture to vests, headgear models etc. on the fly - only the base uniform. Therefore you can't simply use the VBS2 system. However, it's okay for sleeve insignia like this units have. Regardless, for custom units you'd probably still need to make different rank insignia to match different nations and uniforms colours/pattern and rework the scripts to assign those bespoke textures on custom your Arma 3 units, so there is virtually no chance that BIS could magically make a rank insignia system that will work 100% correctly with this addon and any others in addition to the official Arma 3 content anyway. Binkowski 26 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Cool stuff Alex, glad to see these released. While I don't like the look of the PASGT helmets (I prefer ACH), these are still very well done. Also good work on the config work! One little nit picky thing here, the right side of this style of combat shirt the combat patch is not worn. Instead, the IR Flag, soldiers rank, and then last name is worn on the right side. http://media0.wgz.cz/images/media0:51013a9659b6b.jpg/ACS+Aukro+2.jpg Edited July 1, 2013 by Binkowski
