Battlefield 4

Seems they are aiming for a more teamwork focused gameplay, which is very good. Wonder what would happen if they ever decide to make a more realistic spin-off with that....

BF3 was so bad that I don't even care anymore. BF2 brought me to Arma and I've never looked back.

I skipped Bf3 aswell, too silly, a step back in almost every direction.

BF2 was good though and B4 is starting to looks like it. BC2 also was a good game on its own merit.

I love AIX for bf2 and BFBC2 was excellent. Probably the best sound design of any game. Just sad it for obviously gutted to run on consoles.

Jets doing 20 miles an hour in an area the size of agia Marina....

From the stuff seen so far, it looks nice. I'm going to get it, after a long day at work & gym and practice I cant focus enough to play ArmA for 3 hours (1 of them gearing up and briefing).

No kidding, I've heard less bass and sound tearing in dubstep. The graphics...egh.. filters... and isn't it a bit early to announce so many expansions? I mean the game isn't even released and won't be for a while. (also levelution, dafuck?)

I gotta say, there was something about Arma 3's graphics that I reeaaally appreciate and every time I forget what that is, I look at battlefields 3 or 4, with how desaturated everything is and seems to be run through a HDR photo filter (too dark!) egh...thats why we buy televisions and monitors capable of so many colors...ugh.

Sucks because frostbite does some excellent stuff, various visual effects are wonderful but those FFFffffilters.

That said I kind of feel bad for the map makers because even though they may want to make a fully dynamic map (er?) the players aren't going to treat it as such..if playing games has taught me anything it is that in general, players are routine creatures..they occasionally learn methods and tactics from one another and after a bit of circulation it becomes common place. And before long those tactics be they sound or not become the routine.

ACTION! (Staged) ACTION! Explosions! All in you face! Can't handle these type of trailers anymore.

I only wish they eventually make a more realistic spin-off with that engine because each new announcement they make about BF4 makes me lose the hype I once had thinking it would be more like BF2 than 3.

Also:

There are more info on DLCs than the actual release game. What happened to expansions and DLCs that added to the game instead of completing it? Money makers, community dividers and people are happy with it and even considering the Premium thing a "great deal". C'mon...

You forgot the part where the developers feign excitement and go "OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT BUILDING FALL DOWN SO AWESOME WOOOOO" at every gaming conference around. DICE know their marketing.

Now if only they'd know how to do something interesting too...

It seems FB also suffers from the water surface vision thing and the waves (big ones) also don't crash on the shores. Huge ammount of weapons and attachments.

I’m pretty hyped about Battlefield.

In my opinion Battlefield should go slightly more realistic, support mods, support personal servers, bots (I miss bots) and not using the Battlelog to monitor all your stats which really bothers me…

Obviously doing away with the Battlelog system and opening up for mods would make investors nervous at shit but then it could easily be the next Skyrim and crush the shit out of all other war games easily.

I mean Battlefield has the spectacular graphics, sound, smooth controls, its multisystem, well optimized (even supports many cores and relatively obscure hyper-threading) and everything is badass about it other than that it is too unrealistic which completely urks away ARMA-players, right?

Swedish-made and quite a lot of developer support too.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Battlefield be a bit more realistic and CoD being a bit more unrealistic as to be the modern Quake leaving the market free of semi-realistic games.

Imagine what Battlefield could do to ARMA if they only introduced a game mode with 50% movement speed which I guess is the most obvious unrealism in Battlefield. But that won’t happen.

And right there in a nutshell is why the video game industry is the way it is while Arma has to scrape by on whatever money BI can scrounge up as a privately-owned company.

Yeah. Ironically cowardly investors (and game designers) often leads to successful series stagnating or even dying!

Gamers see it happen all the time but the investors are none the wiser.

In recent memory Ninja Gaiden died because the devs made it easier with every game even though the players wanted it to be difficult and even big games like StarCraft II and Diablo III are a lot less than they could be if Blizzard hadn’t been playing them so "safe."

NO this is wrong...had BIS decided after the release of A2 to do nothing but bring the core of the RV engine up to the same power as the frostbite engine (true multicore support) they would have an engine with so many possibilities and they could go head to head with DICE and win a lot of there customer away just because the arma series is versatile...i don't have to get a server from one of there "valued partners"

i can run my own :) along all the tools for modding, missions and so on. It would alow everyone to play the game the way they want to and that would be a big attraction.

BF4 looks pretty but lacks depth.

p.s i forgot how much the mini map and the icons in BF3 drove me nuts...do they think every soldier is running around with an ipad using the "i see the F#$#$%G enemy" APP?!?!?

I'd rather take RV4 over Frostbite, RV4 can render vibrant colors and don't go apeshit with flares.

What it comes down to there though is more unwillingness to throw money at a new or obscure IP (hence "AAA games" vs. "non-AAA games") due to extreme risk-averse investment decision-making, and CEOs who go along with it because frankly their positions are on the line from said investors because hey, the investors are here only as long as they believe that they're somehow going to have ever-increasing profits every quarter (where do you think all the CEO spin comes from? It's perpetual reelection campaigning).

So, let me get this straight.

"Levolution" is basically: Wind affects Trees + Scripted Storm on one map + Water not a plain surface but, even though unaffecting the beaches, dynamic + One skyscraper falling down in a scripted event?

DICE basically "sold a bunch of chocolate coins as a bunch of real money". All this features are not special and in no way a Revolution.

Frostbite could easily render vibrant colors and do away with the flares aswell. It's just DICE/EA's crappy choice of visual style that screws it over.

And moreover, as seen from DICE's official take on banning FXAA injectors, it's intentional (and not just a Punkbuster thing).

DICE/EA are like Steven Spielberg - the flashlight/lens flare fetish :D

Then let us just hope Michael Bay stays out of the game.
