TEAMKILLER 1 Posted March 13, 2013 Hello, im wondering what you guys think about rolling out a Hi-Res Texture pack for the Full ARMA III Game? I got a single GTX 680 and soon another one. My GPU power isn't in use much, so high definition textures wouldn't be a problem. I would like to see how ARMA III would look with some nice ground textures like in Crysis. NeuroFunker 11 Posted March 13, 2013 did u see that nice ground textures like in cocksis from above? Arma 3 textures look also like in cocksis.
BelgarionNL 10 Posted March 13, 2013 hells to the no! you do know that it will only drop your FPS even if you had 2 titans cards! the game was not build to handle more! watch how much of your GPU is used at the moment? maybe what 25 to 45 percent after 30 minutes? with an HD texture pack you will still have a 25 to 45 percent load until they fix the engine! I am currently playing on high and my 1 videocard isn't even used to the max! and running an HD pack will only create poor performance!
daze23 1 Posted March 13, 2013 I'm pretty sure it has "HD textures". it sure eats up video memory like it does...
Fuse 1 Posted March 13, 2013 Most of the textures already look fantastic. The ones that don't might get better as the game gets closer to release. That said, I'm always for HD texture packs. My current GPU wouldn't handle it in Arma 3, but in a year or two I'll have upgraded. No one is forced to use it, don't know why anyone would vote "no" (except for the poorly worded poll). hells to the no! you do know that it will only drop your FPS even if you had 2 titans cards! the game was not build to handle more! watch how much of your GPU is used at the moment? maybe what 25 to 45 percent after 30 minutes?with an HD texture pack you will still have a 25 to 45 percent load until they fix the engine! As the title and original post state, he is talking about when the full game releases. Also, only some GPUs are having the issues you described. Only a few settings actually use the GPU, but using custom settings mine sits in the 90% range all day. Even on the systems the game is running well on, it still is far more CPU dependent. lugiahua 26 Posted March 13, 2013 HD pack? we don't even know what's the texture would be in release version yet!
Tone71 1 Posted March 13, 2013 HD pack? we don't even know what's the texture would be in release version yet! Exactly this.
Ack4orge 10 Posted March 14, 2013 Just turn up your 3D resolution. Although I'm not certain if that affects texture quality.
nodunit 397 Posted March 14, 2013 I'm hoping by HD you mean reworked and possibly more detailed texture (? ) Most textures are 2048x2048, the only higher they will get is 4096x4096 and while not bad for the occasional unit, is just asking your computer to commit suicide for it to be applied to every texture. On_Sabbatical 11 Posted March 14, 2013 "Single player" players are ruining my ArmA life :D
johncage 30 Posted March 14, 2013 the textures are already 2024 to 4096 these kinds of suggestions are nothing more than an excuse to go "hey luk @ me, i have 1337 geepeeyouz"
NeuroFunker 11 Posted March 14, 2013 i think, some people are kinda "cr(az)ysis-minded", when there was some HD-patch for game 2, they do think, it'll be a good idea, to have something in Arma 3. no kthxbai
SAMstudios-3Dartist 45 Posted March 14, 2013 Every texture is allready at 2K-4K :P Do you want E-penis 8-16 k textures?

shankly1985 1 Posted March 14, 2013 It's an Alpha we not testing how good the Textures look. You creating Polls like this is the full game. Get out there and find game breaking bugs for the devs will you.

ARMA is awesome cause it dosen't need a strong system if you want to play on HD textures quality go play battlefield 3/crysis 3.

Leon86 13 Posted March 14, 2013 This is a quote from the landtex topic. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?149036-Landtex/page5 I think this is pretty much correct... It isn't the Stratis sat layer itself which is causing this "mid-range blurriness" - I've made a sat layer or two in my time and Stratis is a good one! - I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the engine and the distance at which it's "transitioning" to some sort of "mid-range focus" or something, and it's a little too close - it happens a little "too early"...I made a fast test map for A3 - no objects, just a really detailed sat layer, ground textures, etc for testing all of this stuff... The sat layer is REALLY detailed - 0.5m/px detailed - probably not far off twice the resolution of Stratis... it has really fine-detailed "cliffs" and you can see the detail just "vanish" as you slowly move back away from them, whereas in A2 the whole thing is a lot less "abrupt"... Like there's some kind of "cutoff distance" for the textures where they drop to a lower mipmap or something... It's an Alpha! Normally we wouldn't see anything this early on in the development process... our feedback on this and all other topics is being carefully listened to, you can bet..... B And seriously, "HD texture pack" is ridiculous in a pc only game, it's only in game that launch with the terrible console textures because of tight deadlines. Don't forget we're running DX11 now. The limit has been increased from 4096x4096 to 16384x16384. I'm sure his PC will do just fine :p.

Sam75 0 Posted March 14, 2013 You should get 2 more 680 and make another "poll" for full tessellation everywhere in arma 3.
NordKindchen 12 Posted March 14, 2013 If your are interested in better textures (especially at mid range) I suggest you take a look at this thread. I explain a possibility to gain a massive detail boost in mid range textures with a minimal performance hit. On top of that I explain the worksheme in detail and deliever several example and comparation pics. Best regards
