Aliabad Region WIP (New terrain!)

Recommended Posts

As some of you might already know, I've been working on a new terrain for a while. It's another 5x5km terrain, so it's not huge, but I'm hoping the detail makes up for that.

About the map:

Aliabad is a coastal region somewhere in Takistan (or another similar country), it consists of some farmlands, settlements, rolling hills and some canyons. There are two main farmlands aswell as a few scattered farms and compounds all over the map, all in all it is much more populated than my previous map, Hazar-Kot. It is still a rather worn-down area though, with many ruins (some old, some new) here and there. (Initially I had planned to cover pretty much the whole map with farmlands, but it proved to be too much work since there weren't any farms on the satmap to begin with, I've added those myself, I realized it would take too much time, and I'd lose interest in it)

Progress etc:

Right now I've finished much of the map, although there are still a couple of areas I need to work on. Also, I still need to do more work on the satmap and such things. All in all it's progressing well and I'm hoping a release won't be that far away, maybe a month or so if I have enough time to work on it.

Thanks guys! and sure Fingolfin, here's a picture of a part of the coastline, it's nothing very exciting, there are cliffs pretty much all along the coastline, and some beaches, but it's not finished yet. :) As you can see there's a wrecked boat, there's also a couple of old destroyed jettys and some debris at a few places. Also, there are some old ruins of forts (I'd imagine) along the coastline.

hopefully I can get custom horizons working so I can remove those high mountains in the background, since the ocean should be to the east (if you look at a map of Takistan that I found.. somewhere). So this is meant to be more of a bay with the actual ocean being further out to the east somewhere. At first I thought of it as a large lake, but after a while I realized that the coastline and everything just felt more like an ocean, especially since it's rather dry and rugged, around a lake I guess it would be much more green.

Also, another thing I've shown before but forgot to take a new screenshot of is that there's some taller grass here and there, especially among the farmlands:

Only just noticed this thread <_<

Shaping up nicely from what i can see, looks great.

have you done any testing with the grasses to see if AI are the evil bastads they usally are?

Haven't tested it enough I think, it's hard to tell. The grass is resized in the config, so I suppose the AI should have some trouble spotting you, unless this is decided by something other than the model and it's size?

This looks totally fantastic! I am a devoted fan of Hazar-Kot.

Any chance of "Stitching" them together to have a large map, Would be fun for a MSO Type operation, Water landing, Move inland. Just thinking! Great work!

Nope, no chance of that unfortunatly, haha, would be a lot of very hard work, would be difficult to fit them together in a good way. However, 5x5km is still pretty large, at least for infantry operations, and there are a lot of ridges and hills limiting your view, and plenty of compounds to secure. :)

Any chance of making a small FOB or somthing in the map? It would be kind of nice for multiplayer or other missions to have a operating base to use. (Or atleast an abandoned "Takistani Army" base somewhere with a couple Helipads) Keep up the good work.

Nice work!

I just noticed The Green Sea Expansion Project. This project is more East than Chernarusland but i think a big map like this, with a bunch of community made maps added would be pretty cool.

There is probably room for the user to construct his own FOB in the editor, since there are more flat areas than on Hazar-Kot, so that shouldn't be a problem, I'll have a look and make sure I leave a couple of more open spaces for FOB's. :) There's already a small hill with some old ruins (mostly walls) on it that would be perfect for fortifying a bit more, turning it into an outpost.

(but I don't like adding a permament FOB on such a small map)

That's even better actually, more options for a user made mission. Thanks and keep it up, looking forward to this map. Hazar Kot is amazing and i'm sure this one will to.

Another Hazar-Kot fan reporting in! Looking good McNools. I can already see myself sneaking a team around behind that compound through the gully to the left in aliabad7.jpg:D Looks like another really nice intricate terrain. Can't wait!:o
