MultiDiscussion : TES5: Skyrim, BattleField 3, COD, R6 etc.

Didn't play BF2 (oddly I do actually own it) but if it was anything like BF1942, which I thought was plain awful, then IMHO DICE are on a much better track with the BC2 influence.

Where is your soul? Battlefield 1942 was amazing. If anything, it is the best of the series.

I hate the Bad Company Series. I own BC2 and I'll admit it's fun but I hate the way the characters move, how they seem unbelievably heavy and the stupid console-y flight model which I avoid alltogether.

The Real BF3 should be BF2 gameplay/features with modern updated graphics with big maps + SDK

I must be missing something.

It still got Conquest, 64 players, rewrapped maps (big or not is debatable), squads, helicopters, jets, land vehicles, prone position.. Not sure about the command rose and commander, however. Is that it?

It would be a potential problem to lose the commander, but I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker.

Main thing on BF were those many classes and commander which DICE said it won't be there (due of consoles)

I can certainly agree on the limited amount of classes at least. Welcome to the modern console age.. :glare:

I don't think the class thing had to do with consoles, some of the BF2 classes were not used much so I wouldn't have a problem with it if they folded them into 4 or 5 classes that are more useful for multiple roles.

I'm going to miss commander mode though.

Hold me...

That trailer is 90% Single player. BF vets could give a hoot about SP.

Read the EA Battlefield UK forums and you'll see an extensive list of the reasons.

A large part of the team/Squad play elements have been completely gutted.

Hold me...

I see nothing wrong with this. No recent GAME rivals Battlefield in authenticity.

ArmA isn't a game. It's a way of life.

Yup, and key word is shooter, they didn't say simulation. It's nice to see that they figured out that tanks don't get paint chipped to hell and shine as if they contain their own self illumination, ditto that said chips are not always silver.

Too bad all the fancy is null by the fact that they are reducing class and lowering squad play..it's like if TF2 were to lower the classes by combining the heavy with soldier and scout with medic. Teamplay is difficult enough to enforce on it's own merits and it only becomes more difficult when everyone is given more power.

Yea - more classes are better than reducing and mixing

The worst mix is the Medic with MG gunner - "wait until i reload my M60 , hang on pal!" - lol

Okay, so I played the BF3 beta today...

My opinions:

I did not mind the class system. The way it was implemented seemed rather intelligent (there are four classes). I haven't unlocked any good stuff yet but I gave the weapons a spin, and while they aren't as realistic as ArmA's, they're definitely more real than Call of Duty's.

Deploying bipods is awesome :yay:

While my graphics card seemed to handle the game acceptably, my CPU (Athlon II X4 @2.8) seemed to create lag. My FPS hovered around 30-40, no matter what the graphics settings. I turned off motion blur because it made me sick.

The map itself wasn't bad. It seemed to me like it resembled Strike at Karkand in size, too bad that the Rush gamemode broke it up into "sections". Shouldn't be a problem with Conquest though.

My biggest problem was the FPS which for some reason dropped whenever I was on the Russian team but stayed high when I played as the Americans.

Also Origin (EA's distro service) sucks monkey balls. It was the worst thing about the game. You can't change graphics settings if you're not in the game itself which sucks. Also going back to the browser all the time was quite irritating to me.

There are 4 types of FPS imo (independently of visual realism): EDIT And I believe there is a lot of fun to be had at any of these catagories

1 Fraggers (UT Series, Quake, etc)

2 Fast paced but soldier movement realistic (COD, Bad Company)

3 Tactical "shooters" (Battlefield series, oldies such as Delta force)

4 Battle Simulation (Arma series)

I mentioned only some of those I played. I was definitely hoping for BF3 filling the #3 gap to me. From what I have seen both Alpha and Beta + trailers and various gameplay footage, my hopes are definitely lost. I was considering the jumping into the Beta to see for myself, but I won't even need to unfortunately.

This and that Origin business, is simply a no-no at the current time, not for 50 bucks. Maybe, just maybe, if it happens to drop into a Steam weekend offer... and those are 2 "no-no"s in EA's point of view.

I will happily wait for Arma 3, and rush myself some fast action with BC2 in the meanwhile.

I am disappointed at DICE indeed.

My thoughts on the beta so far:

+AUDIO! Oh my fucking god it is good, it's much cleaner than Bad Company 2's, but passing snaps and cracks of bullets, incoming rockets, sniper rifles being fired from inside, all sound fantastic. Another million internets go to the audio team.

+Ranking system, gives players what they need right off the bat. It's rough starting out, but compared to the alpha, I was able to jump into it much faster.

+The map, surprisingly enough I've got to hand it to them. I HATED Operation Metro when I first played it during the Alpha. They managed to change it up enough to make it playable as an infantry map.

+Feel and overall gameplay. Seeing as it's an infantry only map being featured it's fairly fast paced, and surprisingly tactical. Very cool clearing out narrow hallways packed with 10 other Marines.

-Stuttering issues

-Graphics issue where the screen blinks

-Black screen before spawning on squad, sometimes you're not in the same stance they are as well. So while your leader is low crawling you spawn standing up and present a huge target.

-recoil is a bit much for assault rifles, especially 5.56 for the love of god.

Origin is not only annoying but also spyware. It scans your PC from A to Z and sends this information to EA for further use. They are actually allowed to sell this info. This is much worse than steam!

They did update the EULA....but that doesn't change a thing, after the initial, i don't trust them one bit.

I won´t get BF3 as long as there is no way to get it without Origin.

It plays more like Medal of Honor actually, or at least the UI is more so like it. Where things get different:

Weapon customization and kit. You have three slots: barrel, rail, and optics. So far I have an ACOG, RDS, and EOTech for my optics. A foregrip, or bi-pod for my rail, and have heavy barrel, flashlight, and PEQ box for my barrel. This is all on my M16 class. On top of that I can carry a defib unit or M320 once I unlock it. I have a lone "spec" as well, there's one for more ammo, take less explosive splash damage, run faster, and one that suppresses the enemy faster. I've noticed there are also specs that will give this quality to your entire squad as well. But those are more advanced.

You can't expect DICE to throw out the past several years of progress because some fans are nostalgic.

You are right about that MOH style of HUD

Well that's modern DICE with recycled weapons from their games etc

Totally agree, that and after they give T10 rights to Porsche again.

there is - retail

BF3 requires you to install Origin. If you don't want Origin, you can't play BF3.

Yeah, BIS would never do that. :biggrin_o:

I like it (but then I liked MOH too for what it was). Got a very quick run on Caspian Border and that looks better again.
