MultiDiscussion : TES5: Skyrim, BattleField 3, COD, R6 etc.

oh, no one denies that. But at least they shouldn't take themselves as serious (same goes for metalcraze type of blokes and A2).

I guess all would be well if the game would be named...James Bond smth or some other similar...

Anyways, last COD i played is COD2 :P. I feel the 50EU price tag for 4-5h or gameplay is not worth it, and i would never jump on the MP bandwagon just to get frustrated that i don't have some X perk or Y weapon hence i have a disadvantage in relation to the 14 year old kid who has been playing daily 8h a day..

Nothing wrong with pick up´n play games. Though I think harder/deeper/more challenging games tend to weed out their player base more. People who put more time into a game just to learn it treat it differently, and treat each other differently.

What I dislike about this franchise is how seriously they´re taking themselves with it. On the face of it, the game is all HUUURRGH REALISMUH will below that being nothing but another hero shooter with insta-heal because medkits and HP are so 1999. It´s bland... I liked Bad Company 2 much more, because the game didn´t take itself completely seriously and approached you with a fair dose of humour.

MW2 on the other hand was just trying to be teh grimmest, to the point of getting tedious. While some levels had great atmosphere, it was largely a shallow gaming experience. MW3, I guess, won´t be any different.

ROFLMFAO - so now you can take on the Russian Navy in a Zodiac with an MP5?

This franchise just gets stupider and stupider.

I don't understand this statement. They did only actually attack one sub, using its missiles to destroy the rest of the Russian ships...its not as though they're firing on the ships and blowing them up with super secret nuke bullets.

Get some perspective.

Ok, lets see that video agian.

First: Talking right next to the sub? Seriously? The Sonar officer must have been drunk not to hear them.

Second: Launch the Subs Missiles in only a Minute? I don´t think this is accurate.

Third: Pass right next to the Sub while its Missiles are being launched without getting toasted= very unlikely

Fourth: Drive right through the russian fleet while those previously launched missiles hit the fleet= yeah right......

Fifth: Chinooks flying right above those russian ships to pick up those Zodiacs.....

Seriously could this be any more exagerated?

I never realised they were aiming for realism...its sci-fi, its not meant to make sense so long as everything looks right (Russian C-130 transport in Black Ops is NOT a good example...i also believe it was an An-124 not an An-225 in BFBC2)

It's an action game. Hate to say it, but even in the OpF Demo back then we were driven by 1 truck to the front, ejected and had contact 20 seconds later (200m distance?).

Now is that realistic? No but fun.

Maybe he didn't said anything because he had a similar situation in the past where too much vodka caused him to hear people speaking outside the sub and he got embarrassed.

Maybe those Seal guys planned their entire action based on sonar dude's past.

Hey it's COD,it could happen.:D

The whole context is retarded (zodiac etc) but I've come to expect that from the MW/BO devs.

The thing that I don't understand is why you are trying to defend it. It's what they do.

It just happens that I don't happen to like it. There is only so far I can suspend my disbelief.

Tbh, I really enjoy COD (zombie mode on BLOPS is fun as anything!)

Same, the Zombie stuff is ace.

I'm defending because i don't understand why we all go to the throat if it doesn't take X amount of people to assault a sub or Y amount of time for the missiles to launch.

To complain its exaggerated is missing the entire point of the campaign and the style of the game. Its meant to be big, bombastic, in your face, thats what Sci-Fi is, the suspension of belief in accordance to realistic interactions of objects.

Hating it because it takes too quick to launch missiles from the sub is like hating Star Wars because you can hear sound in space. Its not meant to be an accurate portrayal of real world weapon systems. If it were and IW said that they're trying to make a sim or a tactical sim, then yes, there would be a problem, however its an arcade game, and arcade is all about, you guessed it, big bombastic, in your face explosions everywhere. I understand the context and genre and can adjust my expectations accordingly.

What are you on about?

I never said it was supposed to be an accurate portrayal of anything. And FYI, do you know how many people actually believe that the scenarios in these games are plausible, more than a few I'll wager.

Not that it matters, you'll play it, I won't :)

They can't be serious

Better state that on the box -"Does not contain ammunition. Virtua-bullets sold seperately".

If true, I'm out.

Transcript...

Now what causes higher margins with digital, a couple of things….The second thing and this is a point that I think might be lost on many, is a big and substantial portion of digital revenues are microtransactions. When you are 6 hours into playing Battlefield, and you run out of ammo in your clip, and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you’re really not very price sensitive at that point in time (laughter in the background). Um, and for what it’s worth the COGS [i assume Cost Of Goods Sold - defunkt] on the clip, really low, and so, um, essentially what ends up happening and the reason the play first, pay later model works so nicely is a consumer gets engaged in a property they might spend 10, 20, 30, 50 hours on the game, and then when they’re deep into the game they’re well invested in it, we’re not gouging, but we’re charging, and at that point in time the commitment can be pretty high. As a personal anecdote I spent about $5000 calendar year to date on doing just this thing, this type of thing, on our products and others, um, I can readily attest to how well it works, um, but it is ah, it’s a great model and I think it represents a substantially better future for the industry…

If I am ever going to be charged for virtual ammo, I will get myself a gun, drive to the company that wants me to pay for it and show then how much it costs to get rid of the bulletholes produced by one clip of ammo in their building front.

It doesn´t have to be totally realistic, but when its so much exagerated that even a B-Action-Movie Director would feel embarassed for it, then its just waaay too much!

better yet, grab the same gun, driver to their offices, aim at ~insert job~'s head, get that 1 dollar out and ask for some bullets.. :P

But it does show the kind of greedy ideas rolling around in EA's head.

Yeah, heaven forbid a business try to maximize profit.

But still a game. No matter how many words you put infront of "Game", it will always be a game. Just calm the heck down with the hatring, it's not a game that ruins your day or something.
