What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

  1. 1. What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

    • The weapon sounds!
    • The vehicle sounds!
    • Environmental sounds!
    • Explosions, Soniccracks, Bullethits, the sound of danger!
    • The script features like the "distance sounds"!
    • Everything combined! The whole Mod itself is important.

Those weapons aren't in OA. If you don't own Arma2, you should deleted all the bizon .pbos.

@tom3kb

Thanks so much! *Whew*...I feel a lot better. And thanks for the help!

@LordJarhead

Thanks for the heads up! And really can't wait for the update...just wanted to let you know I have 3 brothers and we all play ARMA2 with just this mod (we're not too big on mods otherwise), and this really changes the game experience for us. Really really makes this game so much more fun. Thanks for all the work on behalf of all of us. :)

Ha ha, Thanks mate! Nice to hear ;)

Well, Arma2 CO is required to play the mod with all its features. Just start CO and it'll be fine. Why only OA when you have A2 also?

In further updates the required addons are getting expanded to provide any further "not-working" sounds ingame. So you deff. need to have CO in future. But hey, CO really worth it!

Thanks so much,

Jarhead

Thanks mate, I'll take a look on it, but the quality isn't much high, hardly to get something out of it. But should be no problem.

So, thanks to Ei8ght there'll be the MV-22 in the next release!

Ha ha, ya, I was surprised that someone wanted to do an interview with me. I hope it was interesting.

Sure, I tried to make some new sounds, but I don't get it to run ingame. Just some configmess again,

I made it this way to fit better to the M240 COAX, so an M1A2 which is shooting around with the M240COAX and the M2 dosen't sound like two vehicles are shooting, well its just fiting better to the M240C. But I know it has nothing to do with the real thing. And it shouldn't. I don't make here an real super duper realistic sound thing^^ Its just my opinion how it should sound like.

The old M2 sounds more bassy, don't fit at all in my ears.

Just an Information for the future: I will make some configs of several new vehicles sourcing the sounds from different vehicle.pbo's. Thats means: Please always delete ONLY the config file if you don't want to use an vehicles or weapon or what ever, let the .pbo still there to provide missing sounds or rpt's. ONLY delete the _c.pbo's of the sounds you dont want to use.

I'm done with the AH1Z and UH1Y which are using the same sound. Only difference is the interior of the UH1Y which is louder instead of the small carbine of the AH1Z of course.

Also done with the MV-22 which is probaly a plaine and not a helicopter in the configs (?!) and so its sounds a bit strange while flyby's and so on.

Now I will work a bit around with the configs of all vehicles to rework some distances and volume entries.

Ok,

These are my distances for vehicles (cars and trucks)

The Cars are hearable in Idle = 200/ Low = 300/ High = 350/ Acceleration = 250/.

(I will add 50 meters on all values for the russian vehicles, probaly they'll a bit louder [instead of the UAZ maybe].

The Trucks are hearable in Idle = 350/ Low = 400/ High = 450/ Acceleration = 400/.

(Also around 50 meters more for russian vehicles]

You think this is ok this way? Well I will test these entries and I'll see.

I think the distances are fine, but for trucks especially, the volumes could be lower.

I like loud sounds that travel a long ways but get rapidly softer.

Ok, I guess I have to fixe some stuff. Some vehicles are sound strange with the new configs.

Did anyone have some videos of poping distance shootings? I tried to edit some by my self, but they don't hear much realistic (yes yes, I already said I don't want to make a real sound mod^^)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVsteyKJMF8 - maybe youre able to use some of them

it is really hard to find high quality sounds on this one. I remember an ARD documentary about the fights in Libya with perfect distance sonds but i cant find it anymore... :(

something like this

but in a much higher quality

---------- Post added at 09:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 PM ----------

So, after a long time of textwork in the configs I really happy that they're working well now. I changed all distances for Vehicles and fixed some DB-deffinitions. The result is really good. Now I can finally hear all the effects I wanted and there're no hearable problems so far.

Most small vehicles are around 300 - 500 Meters, heavy vehicles like tanks are going up to 400 - 1000 meters. The Helios have a nice new effect (well, not really, but hey). There are three different sounds for a helicopter. The Idle, which you hear all the time, the LOW and the High, which you always hear while look UNDER the heli a full speed (E). So I made it like this:

Idle up to 2500 meters, so the heli is really long range BUT not so hearable or loud because the High (which makes the helis always so loud) are only around 400 - 500 meters. So you can hear the heli, but only on close distance it would become the high volume they had in past. Hope you can follow me...

Also, you're can finally hear all the Start and Stop sounds right. You can hear clearly the ACC sounds, outside or inside. While drivin from the inside, you can hear on with terrain you're driving. You can hear the grass scratching on the vehicleplate while drivin over a meadow or you hear the tracks from the inside a bit louder. Also the "Noises" entries are working well now, and THIS is giving me a nice new idea... he he he... (dirty laugh)

All in all, the 2 or 3 hourse I took to make this really worth it!

Thanks so far,

Jarhead
