CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."

Recommended Posts

So, the target renders of RR are already looking more attractive than the target renders of DR.

Wow, that's amazing. Quite an achievement.

I thought they weren't far-enough yet to process/view in-game footage

I think I've read that CM showed some in-game stuff to few people, it's just not yet ready for showing to public.

@Pain0815

Take it easy man, that was over the line. We all share your view on CM but I browse through DR forums enough to know that Ben_S is not a mindless CM fanboi nor an abusive troll... unlike "some" others (wink wink).

What? CM themselves may be pretty sh*te at making good games, but they have the right tools, and the money.

I may be wrong, but I got the strong impression from CM's answers as to why no SDK that they use a professional suite of development tools that they buy a license for from other companies, rather than make their own. I'd presume Bis use the same kind of thing on top of Oxygen to produce their stuff, but at least they can provide the Arma customer-base with a set of perfectly usable tools.

Criticism of the DR editor? I just couldn't get it to do what I wanted as soon as I started to do anything more ambitious than place some units and way-points. Much as it would be interesting to learn LUA scripting, I simply don't have the time to dedicate to something that would be of little use to me. I know it's widely used and Bis' system isn't, but with a little research, you can get Bis' editor to do most of the things you want relatively quickly.

"We were just talking about trying to make the game more fun," admits Sion.

...

"We've made sure that earlier levels in the game look like earlier levels in the Call of Duties and Bad Companies so as not to alienate the player," admits Sion.

...

"There were definitely features and mechanics in Dragon Rising that pissed people off," admits Sion

...

One thing that'll be welcomed by the console shooter crowd is improved gun handling that's more fluid and thankfully more helpful in the heat of battle. For the dedicated core there's still the option to fight without a safety net, but in line with the blockbusters there's now assists available with three different flavours on offer.

At long range there's now a sticky aim that slows the reticule as it passes over enemies, while at mid-range there's a snap-to-aim that'll be familiar to any Call of Duty veterans and finally get up close and personal and there's Red River's equivalent of the z-lock, keeping the players sights on the target as they strafe around.

Lets see what all those "Call of Duties and Bad Companies" will say once they discovered the new "blockbuster" from CM... :D

Nice sig myshaak ;)

Yes, concept renders only at this point, pretty crappy really. Wasting the little resources given to them on getting the dev team to work on pre-rendered images.... The forums so far just has gone the same route as DR at this point, Devs totaly ignoring community...

Sion/James/Tim have disapeared from CM forums (the 3 main guys in charge of RR), and absolutly noone knows jack-shit about the game, and its only speculation from the little they tell us. Sounds familiar..... :(

And for your information, most of my posts on the CM forum span over the Mission Editing zone, which (sadly) used to be more active than the rest of the forum put together.

Yes, I know CM are way to protective over their engine, and should really release tools for the customer to edit the game to some extent. They wont even give us that.

And the DR editor is "decent", the #1 reason I still stay on DR forums is for the people there that want to learn that kind of language, and have the time to sit down and have people teach them it. Im not some mindless troll on there "kissing CM's ass", im helping and learning from, people on the ME side of it...

Nice sig... not. How would you think about a person that was on CM boards wearing a similar sig with a silly-looking freeze frame of Maruk's face, making fun of him personally for no god-damn reason? That's really immature and fucking stupid, and I'm appalled by the fact that you don't get banned for such bigotry.

True that. They at least take pride in their product and continually work on it, interact with the community, and strive to put out quality. Unlike CM who just releases a game, throws out three patches and calls it a day. You better believe they'll do the same with Red River.

You're entitled to your opinion but what does that have to do with anything?

Unlike BIS devs Sion can be characterised as a conman and a poser who is not straight with the community. Pretty much everything he said was a deception, delusion or his visions not consulted with the actual developers (those got rejected of course). He made people believe the were buying a different game that they actually got.

For that he deserves no respect.

Although I am aware of the fact that the sig is a bit childish, I just couldn't resist.

^ Lengthened version of my short-hand one. :p

Anyway, I think we're all being childish here bashing CM and RR, lets get back on topic... wait...

Whilst nothing is going to stop this argument, we should still be more mature than we are now. Ok? :)

Well, I didn't really follow all that because I wasn't that interested in the game. But even if it were true, I don't think he deserves such personal attacks. He's just a guy doing his job, not some Evil Boss of the Evil Game Corporation you make him to be.

Don't worry, we're just all being childish. He really isnt as bad as people make him out to be, He just was unlucky to end up working for CM.

After brief consideration I replaced Sion's face with a more neutral one. That's all I'm willing to do to appease you.

Haha, Might be quite a long wait then. :D

That's true, you got me there! :D

How come nobody's sued Conmasters for the lack of Dedicated servers in ofp:Dr when it was promised on the box?

Surely releasing the sequel should be illegal or sumfin?

(I'd do it but I haven't bought the crappy excuse for a game and never will unless I get paid to play it)

A side note about Lenton...he actually got promoted to Creative Director shortly after the DR fiasco. Just goes to show that what he did with DR during development and the post release lack of communication and short support cycle is exactly what the CM bosses wanted. Linkage.

Well, that if anything proves his job was not to make a good game, but just to make some shit up and earn money. Conmasters indeed! :D

If you're not up to speed on what happened pre-release of DR, and you were not interested in / don't know about DR, and you don't know what happened post release, how can you possibly hope to make meaningful contributions to those topics?

The devil's greatest trick was to make people believe he does not exist.

But there he is.... live in flesh at CM HQ.

He is The Trickster!!

Why should I know everything Lenton said specifically? That has little to do with the actual game. It's like saying I couldn't say anything meaningful about Gillette razor blades just because I haven't memorized the details of every Gillette advertisement and commercial that featured Tiger Woods.

I know quite enough about DR itself, and sure enough I did read a handful of articles and checked a couple of the videos. But I also knew better than to trust pre-renders and PR hype in the first place, and didn't pay that much attention what they were saying in some quick video blurbs because of course they're gonna say stupid shit like "it's the best game ever, really".
