  1. Upon reconsideration, I've decided that the best way to do this is from the ground up. Unless I can figure out a way to return the original concept, I'll be attempting to make an entirely new terrain
  2. Recently an idea came to me to make a map based on Eastern Afghanistan and the ecosystem in provinces like Kunar, Nuristan, and Nangarhar. The provinces make up a very unique ecosystem in Afghanistan, being widely covered by foliage and having a very high elevation. Along with that, they are some of the most violent areas in the country and are some of the hardest to maintain control of. They are a hotbed for Taliban insurgent activities and gun running. We've seen maps like this before, such as Clafghan, FATA, and Tora Bora from ARMA 2, but I wasn't very happy with either of those maps for a variety of reasons. FATA's mountains aren't dense enough, Clafghan is too lush and I just generally dislike the atmosphere, and Tora Bora is too light on foliage and just kind of boring. I know the process of map-making can be a very long and trying experience, and I have absolutely no experience with terrain creation in ARMA, and that prompted the main driving idea behind this proposition. I thought, why not use the Takistan Mountains Cut-out map and tweak the flora, ground textures, and Sat-Image to represent this type of ecosystem? There's plenty of villages and military bases in this area, and the mountains are a perfect size and steepness. What do you guys think of this? Is it even legal? Is it feasible? Is it something you'd like to see/use? Where can I get started on undertaking this, supposing there's enough reason to begin? TL;DR; put trees on takistan cut-out Here's a proof of concept I threw together with the Eden Editor
  3. I think I'll give this a try and see if I can get anything good. It'll be a while before I can even start though. Yeah, I'd probably leave some open spaces so it's less taxing on performance, and I can just say there was logging in the area. The vanilla map includes 2 military bases which I will probably leave, but there will be at least one clearing in the mountains for an OP or something, and I'll even consider marking it on the map. I also know how you feel about CUP and it's massive size. I usually have to download things like that overnight . In my opinion, it's a decent trade-off because being able to use Arma 2 maps is really nice and I think it's better to download one really big master file and then download smaller terrains than downloading a lot of self-contained terrains. You end up with a lot of duplicate assets that don't need to be around really.

I have an idea for a piece of equipment, the Tactical Tailor 40mm Grenade Belt. I've seen pictures of this in use with just about every service within the US Armed Forces. It hold 12 grenades, it could go into the backpack slot as a way for grenadiers to carry a bit more. I assume its privately bought and not standard issue, but I believe it would be a neat and simple addition. Could be good for when you get more Soldier Plate Carrier System loadouts out, since the carrier doesn't have a ton of room on it for grenade pouches. http://i.imgur.com/WNQWUsDl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Gkbw05N.jpg http://www.tacticaltailor.com/40mmbelt12rd.aspx

Do a script like with the AR15 grips. There's an actual entry for the HK optimized PEQ/Light combo, but its hidden from access and automatically attaches when the regular combo is detected on the weapon.
  6. CUP has been updated for the visual upgrade, but does this affect community Arma 2 maps also(ie not in CUP but instead made for A2 and referencing CUP assets), or will they be broken?
  7. I think they should have kept the visual rework for Altis/Stratis and Tanoa. They designed it primarily around those maps, so obviously it doesn't do other maps much justice. I'm running legacy for the time being until they work something out or I give in. I also don't want to download a million gigabytes of updated terrains.
  8. I might have an M16A2 model, and flat top version for an A3 or C7 or whatever, to offer to you guys if it turns out decent once I get it finished. I probably wont have any normal, diffuse, or specular maps, just a raw .obj, but it's a start.
  9. Thanks for all the wonderful content you guys have delivered!

You should tweak the CUP/AIA compatibility some, it can be pretty difficult on maps like Bystrica to find supplies. I find myself constantly running because of a lack of ammo and weapons after a few minutes. I dunno, you could try to get things to spawn around buildings. Also a text file with all the classnames for items would be nice.

Brilliant mod, man! I suggest adding a hotkey for the holster function, configurable in the 'custom controls' section of the controls menu. also, Arma 2 support could use work, very few buildings may be entered, so finding things can be rare, but the zombies certainly aren't rare.
  12. I don't mean to shit on your efforts, but you should look into merging with another mod like War Chronicles, to hopefully bring us closer to a finished and high quality WW2-era mod. I think War Chronicles focuses on the French campaign in 44, by merging with them and maintaining your vision for late war combat, you could effectively represent the entire liberation on the Western Front.
  13. Is it alright if I basically take the config you made for CSAT, but retexture all the assets and release it? I want to make a replacement like this but instead of the weird hex camo, I want to use the Iranian DPM-based pattern, so that the unit will look further contemporary. If that's not okay, it's no problem, I'll keep it to myself.
