papoose244 10 Posted June 26, 2010 Hi guys What do you guys think looks better 3d resolution at 150% or AA at high?
Cyteless 10 Posted June 26, 2010 3D Resolution at 150% seems to look good, while making the game still playable. AA just kills my FPS.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted June 26, 2010 I use 3D resolution at 133 of 150 with AA on low, seems to give the best results for me.
-=seany=- 5 Posted June 26, 2010 In game AA from me is too costly even @ low setting. I wanted to try forcing 2x AA through the nvidia control panel but it seems the only option I now is "Application Controlled" or "Enhance Application" (which I don't really see the point of). Anyone else missing the "Override" option? Driver v257.
Inkompetent 0 Posted June 26, 2010 3D-resolution is usually less taxing for the computer to calculate, so I'd recommend that over AA.
Nutlink 10 Posted June 26, 2010 I suppose that actually depends on what resolution you run at and what video card you have. A 5870 doing 200% for a monitor at 1920x1080 (3840x2160) cries, but can easily do 200% for one doing 1280x1024 (2560x2048). At 1920x1080 I can run normal AA much better than I can 150% (2880x1620). Erratic 10 Posted June 26, 2010 I will try this over AA, do you think going from 100% to 125% will give noticable eye candy?
raserisk 12 Posted June 26, 2010 Disabled AA, and set 3D Resolution to 133% and it looks great.
Inkompetent 0 Posted June 27, 2010 I will try this over AA, do you think going from 100% to 125% will give noticable eye candy? I deem 125% a bit too low myself (but each to their own I guess. Depends on screen size and resolution), but a bit higher than that and it starts looking really good.
=wfl= sgt bilko 10 Posted June 27, 2010 I will try this over AA, do you think going from 100% to 125% will give noticable eye candy? It's very subjective. Just play around with the settings. What looks good for YOU is the key here not what others think.
Murklor 10 Posted June 27, 2010 To be honest I think 125% or low AA look pretty much the same and perform pretty much the same too. So for my box it doesnt even matter, lol.
gossamersolid 155 Posted June 27, 2010 I tried 150% 3d res and low AA and it found it looked blurry... so I went back to 100% 3D res and high AA. I didn't notice performance gains with less AA... just looked worse to me.
randir14 10 Posted June 28, 2010 Higher 3d res makes the game run worse than AA for me. It also looks worse too. No AA, 100% 3d res - 60 fps Normal AA, 100% 3d res - 53 fps No AA, 133% 3d res - 32 fps
shataan 1 Posted June 28, 2010 Refresh my memory, what 3D are we talking about here? I don`t remember seeing this vis setting in ARMA 2.
gossamersolid 155 Posted June 28, 2010 Refresh my memory, what 3D are we talking about here? I don`t remember seeing this vis setting in ARMA 2. there are two resolutions in the options Interface and 3D resolution
MavericK96 0 Posted June 28, 2010 Higher 3d res makes the game run worse than AA for me. It also looks worse too.No AA, 100% 3d res - 60 fps Normal AA, 100% 3d res - 53 fps No AA, 133% 3d res - 32 fps Pretty much the same conclusion here. Greater than 100% 3D res often makes the game unplayable whereas I can have AA on Very High and it's still plenty playable.
ModeZt 0 Posted June 28, 2010 with the base resolution of 1920x1200 I can't afford anything higher then 100% 3d res. 133% just cuts the frame rate in half. so I play with 100% 3d res and Normal AA. ati hd5870 has quite fast anti-aliasing algorithms so why not use it? ;)
usmc123 1 Posted June 28, 2010 Like others have said increasing 3d Res kills my framerate. While I can jack AA to medium or so and get great visuals.
markushaze 10 Posted June 28, 2010 Hello all. For nvidia users there is a secret weapon :-) Have you heard of nHancer? it opens up functionality which is otherwise hidden. It uses less resources for a better picture. I use 4xS AA (combined multi- and super sampling mode) and 100% filter rate in the resolution 1680 x 1050. Please, try it and tell me what you think , and works best for you. greetings

It also looks worse too.No AA, 100% 3d res - 60 fps Normal AA, 100% 3d res - 53 fps No AA, 133% 3d res - 32 fps same here. I think ati can better handle 3dres, nvidia better AA. My settings are 3dres=100%, AA=normal, postprocessing very high to smooth the trees far away. @markushaze I will try it.
