oldbear 390 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) I would show you, here, Tropica, a new Clan ADO island. Tropica is a large African map , started as a personnal test for Berghoff's African foliage addon. On Tropica you can find mangroves areas and dry savana large areas. At the moment, the map in Alpha state is playable and tested by the ADO Team members. Still in WIP state, it needs a lot of work and improvements. Edited April 2, 2010 by Old Bear

oldbear 390 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) At the moment, the map features : - 2 towns - a lot of small settlements, more or less placeholders atm waiting for african huts as well as shanties. - a large air base near Tropicaville ... in the SW, in fact the former French BA96, hosting now the "Éléments français d'assistance opérationnelle" on Tropica. - a very long soviet build airstrip on the NE in Banga air base, a remain of a past era built as an emergency landing site for the Buran Soviet space shuttle. - 2 dirt strips near Gaho in the North and Djoba in the South, these strips need some skill to be used, noob pilots ... keep off ! - a petrol offshore platform build by the CEMTEX, the "Compagnie d'Exploitation Minière de Tropica et d'EXport", - an open-air exploitation dug now by the mysterious TNT, the "Tropica National Trust"... they say they are looking for galena and germanium ... but if so why do they need all those private army camps ? But the main features are large more or less dry savana areas, someplace with desert patches and 2 large basins with mangroves and oasis. oldbear 390 Posted April 2, 2010 To answer a question asked by PM : Tropica is a 17km x 14km island .... a bit more than 17km from Killer Cape to Cabo San Felipe.

Fox '09 14 Posted April 2, 2010 very nice. A river in the deep jungles would be nice to have. Slowly riding in a CRRC in a shallow river is.. whats the word... cinematic?
oldbear 390 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Sorry, AxF FoX, but no patrol on rivers on Tropica ! I had too much issues with IA going taking a bath in lieu of fighting on one of the version I build previously that now the "river" beds are just shallow areas of brackish water where a kind of mangrove is growing. sparks50 0 Posted April 4, 2010 Can you get that sweet arma 2 pond water for the shallow water? http://www.armaholic.com/datas/users/4-chernarus_bahnak2.jpg Anyway, looking great.
oldbear 390 Posted April 5, 2010 Well, this "water" in pond shape has been tailored by BIS for Chernarus ponds, in fact small water areas. On Tropica the "mangrove" area is stretched along meanders of the 2 coastal rivers beds and so it's a bit narrow and quite long, not at all in shaped as a pond. I think I can use the BI ponds objects for small strech of water in oasis, but I am very careful not to add too much objects in order to retain a decent FPS rate in the jungle/mangrove area. oldbear 390 Posted April 11, 2010 New tropica WIP pics from the lastest build : - Banga Harbor - - Banga Air Base - - Djoba and Passage du Sicilien - - Oil Platform near Tropicaville - On these pictures from the lastest build, you can have a look at the Banga Harbour with the sunk cargo boat. Witnesses were saying that the boat was attacked very early in the morning as it was unloading it's "plywood" cargo near the TNT warehouse by a single delta wing jet. Here is also the Banga airbase, with it's extra long air strip from the Soviet era. Next pic features a dangerous spot near Djoba village : le passage du Sicilien", using this short-cut need some skilled driver not to be washed away by the waves. This place name is a tribute to Le Sicilien a dedicated VAB driver in Africa ... and former Team Leader of the Clan ADO ^^. Last shot shows the CEMTEX Oil platform near Tropicaville ... those guys are saying there is only low grade oil and tar .... The map building is going faster with [ADO] Floosy help, thank you map master ;)
