ArmA2 1.05 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here

Recommended Posts

Loving the AH-64D. It's a very nicely crafted model and a nice surprise.

It doesn't seem to cast a shadow however. Flying over water I noticed just the shadows from the 2 pilots sitting down. Looks like they're on a flying carpet.

Happens with all air vehicles. Looks more like a water problem.

I think the sound in 105 is better now... no more crackling in a huge fight, or near a rumbling tank engine. I also think there are a few new sound added in, (or I just noticed it) namely whizzing sound of bullets passing by. not just the standard CRACK CRACK sound... havent try EW yet... but overall for me 105 is great. :)

Ok guys. I've done my own benchmarking before updating from 1.04 to 1.05.

I basically used the Chernarus map and placed a few idle infantry groups.

Graphics settings were put on medium for the tests.

I just loaded this custom made mission and let it idle while watching for a steady framerate with FRAPS.

Results

1.04 got 40fps

1.05 got 39fps

Also I decided to remove all units accept myself

1.04 got 66fps

1.05 got 63fps

Also I made screen shots for comparison purposes

ArmA 1.04

ArmA 1.05

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/4531/arma2105.png

The results show a very small frame drop with the new version.

In 1.05 you can see some nice distance improvements.

SPECS

AMD 620 x4

2GB DDR2 @800

Geforce 260 GTX

Yeah the draw distance will sacrifice some fps now that it's matched up with the viewdistance.

Thanks.

"AH64D"

Place it in the editor, save it and it'll show the classname in the mission.sqm

Just noticed there are 2 benchmark missions in there. benchmark 01 (the same as the demo) I got 25 avg fps. benchmark 02 (intense night battle action) I got avg 8fps only... No big battle for me then :)

Fix the default AI:

- they dont change from stealth/danger to aware/safe (waiting till #2 says its safe)

- they are still moving themselves in the line of fire

- they are too slow moving/forming up (guess bounding overwatch issue)

- they still not able to drive and get stucked or do some strange steering/circling

- they dont have any target priorities - attack low threats instead highest threats first

- they still not knowing when they're outnumbered and outgunned

- they dont use terrain and buildings at their advantage

- they cant re-group with others

- they still not making proper reports

- medics are screwed up and dont assist like they should

- they still firing at soldiers with HEAT rounds

- they still firing with AA rockets at vehicles (even if AT soldiers in group)

- they are still targeting planes and helicopters with their rifles

- they still have issues to target & hit with grenade launchers M203/GP25

- they still cant fly planes/helicopters and use the weapons from standoff distance (a certain safe distance from a hazard or objective)

- they still firing at soldiers with HEAT rounds

What is wrong with that? Using a sabot against them wouldn't do any good. If there is a group of them i'd hit them with a HEAT instead of machine-gunning them as the rpg soldier pulls out his rocket and wastes me.

HEAT = High Explosive Anti-Tank, imho its better if BIS would add HE-FRAG rounds against non-armored vehicles, infantry and increase the use of both machineguns for AI.

Its even worse if infantry with M136 and RPG-18 shooting at each other with their launchers. :crazy_o:

@ NoRailGunner -

Mostly agree....

- they still not able to drive and get stucked or do some strange steering/circling

They may be having as much trouble as I do when driving in ArmA! :D

- they dont have any target priorities - attack low threats instead highest threats first

- they still not knowing when they're outnumbered and outgunned

- they dont use terrain and buildings at their advantage

Mostly agree with those.

- they still firing at soldiers with HEAT rounds

I think this is ok, except as it may be linked to the priority issue. If they're firing HEAT at infantry, instead of Sabot at the T-90 aimed at them, that's an issue.

- they still firing with AA rockets at vehicles (even if AT soldiers in group)

This is still a HUGE source of frustration for me.

And given that we only have two options right now I would rather them use HEAT because it is more effective. If they put in HE-FRAG I am all for them using that but right now its either SABOT or HEAT and I prefer HEAT against infantry.

I think the AI is okay now. The only problem remains in the consistency: it bugs out way too often and does stupid things. Once that´s fixed, they´d be rock solid.

A dumb question when you know the answer

This is the first time I've ever been asked to.

[edit]

Forget it, that was a dumb question. DOH!!!

Sorry if this is the wrong place.

I can't find news of the patch on STEAM. Has anyone heard official news from STEAM on this patch.

I answered my question. STEAM sez to (1) disable their autoupdate function for ARMA2 and (2) use the universal updater/patches. Disable the autoupdater first. Otherwise STEAM will probably try to force ARMA2 back to 1.04. I've done that. It's a mess.

I just installed the patch/EW Hotfix yesterday. And I have to say that the campaign was absolutely brilliant. At first I thought it was going to suck, just flying around going to Waypoint A to destroy a certain target then going to Waypoint B etc. But, after getting further into the game --certain events happend-- it suddenly turned awesome.

The music fit perfectly with the feeling of the game. It looked right and just felt so real. I was actually scavenging the bodies looking for weapons, afraid I was going to die. When I did run out of ammo and I couldn't find any more ammo, I ended up running for my life and I was actually scared, haha.

Although it was a bit short it was perhaps the greatest campaign since OFP: Resistance. I really hope to see more campaign additions like this.

Thanks for the great patch, and the Apache is amazing!
