New Sound Mod in the making, slowly but surely

Actually the New so called M4 sound only works with the M16

There are no new machine gun sounds or anything else

And this new version has crashed my game once and has crashed our server once too since using your new version lol

just wondering, but is there no CSM sound for the Apache's cannon? If you listen to a Cobra firing from a distance it's still audible but the Apache's cannon seems almost silent even when it's flying close by (this is with ACE on as well).

There is an M230 sound and you're right, when using with ACEX_SM it is almost inaudible when you are ~100m or further from it.

I'm pretty sure this is due to the volume of the ACE2 AH64D engine, I'll include a balanced version soon.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. It was kinda taking the "shock and awe" out of being on the ground and having an Apache appear to clean up :p

Uhm, I think Youtube is not the best source for recording weapon sounds, there are too much variables; microphone, environment, sound quality... to be honest, I didn't ever heard the same gun sounds in different youtube clips with the same weapons.

I know that, but I would like the sound to be as close to it as possible, I don't like guns sounding like an electric BBgun...

Try the Hi-Fi weapon sound beta, I think you can use it along this mod, just move the corresponding pbo's from CSM to a disable folder

If BiS made VBS2 for the US and Australian army how come they didn't let them record real sounds?

VBS2 has very, very good sounds from what I've seen in the few videos released of it. But again, there's always this idea that BIS should be including stuff that they have in VBS2 in their commercial games, including ArmA II. Look at the price difference. There's a substantial reason that you don't get stuff from VBS2 in BIS' games.

Tested the new version a bit and the overall immersion is good. I like also that weapons is not heared when fired far away as in ACE2 atm wich is nice.

But some minus points from my point of view is that some sounds are a bit weak or "wimpy". I had a 6 man squad with M4's and M249's and the M249's wasnt very powerful (thaught they were very good before IIRC) and they sounded a bit tame. It just wasnt any power so to speak. The "wimpy" sounding might be my crappy Audigy2 though.

However i liked far away sounds from static MG's they sounded great and powerful. Also ofcourse a lot of great sounds in there, but im in the middle of testing right now so well see how it gets after a bit of more battling. :) Thanks for the update!

Allegedly Codemasters recorded real weapon sounds for Dragon Rising and that game has an average price.

If you think about it realistic weapon sounds aren't one of the most important, deal breaking features of VBS2 so I see no reason why they can't be in a commercial game.

Just thought id let ya know that the M4A1 203 SD and M4A1 Shortdot SD are using the Normal M4 sounds instead of silenced..

edit: Im running ACEX_SM followed by CSM2

Yes, well, the sounds in DR are terrible, in my opinion. They might or might not be realistic, but they do not sound good to me. Sometimes you need a bit of Hollywood. Now MW2 - that game has amazing sound effects. Try playing in 5.1 surround sound, it will blow your mind.

I have tried with both my Audigy 2 ZS(5.1) sound card and my onboard RealTek HD Audio(7.1) and the sound is exactly the same, a little "wimpy" as you say.

It's not the sound volume itself but the sounds that need a more sharp punch sound rather than have the flat sound of a BB gun with increased volume :)

But as we all know this is a beta and a lot of things can change :cool:

I agree, I was kinda surprised how much the weapon sounds sucked in DR after all those videos boasting about how they recorded real gun shots.

Anyway I'm happy with Chammy's sound mod it needs some work but so far this mod provides the best experience and immersion for me whether it's realistic or not.

Its because developers are doing a 'job', they have no love for it... I know chammy puts a great deal of work into his projects, I think it shows :)

I played MW2 with 5.1 and it did not blow my mind ;) infact the first thing i complained about was how cheap the sounds came across to me :eek:

This mod is more my style the sounds you get from a simple fire fight are amazing... but as most have said some weapons need a bit more kick when the player uses them in terms of sound... the AKM is spot on i actually use this weapon more now just because of the sound from this mod :bounce3:

Should I load this after or instead of @ACEX_SM if using ACE? Assuming I want to use this mod's sounds of course over ACE's sounds... It's really not clear what is supposed to happen when both mods are loaded.

Also, where do I download the latest version?...

I have used this mod since version 0.2 and i haven't had any problems.

Though i agree that guns when fired with FPS view could sound more realistic if add more "punch" to sounds.

Thanks OrdeaL, updated release version: 1.03.01 resolves this, available here.

I'd recommend downloading from the above link as it is frequently updated.

wrt to subjective feedback on weapon sounds, config is relevant so please post it as requested together with your opinion.

Update includes a new M249 sound. Quality is limited to that of the source, but it still conveys some of the character of the sound produced when firing the weapon.
