Being around here since the days of OFP:CWC.

True is, there is no game out there offering so much freedom in every possible way. And hell, I've tried many of them during my long lasting gamer 'career'. I was a bit disapointed with ArmA, but defended it where ever I could since besides its OFP 1.5 nature it still offers more than most competitors do. With Arma2 I am a bit more pleased although I still find that BIS, without CM, is focusing a bit too much on coop modes with their current titles. I wish back the good old days of Battlefield1985 (jump in, have fun for half an hour and forget your stressful weekday), but gameplay is still a little slow for that. So I do hope that OA can bring it back somehow. Animations in Arma2 are way faster then in ArmA, but it is still missing the response times of OFP, to my liking.

However, Arma2 was a big step back to OFP - what is meant positive - with good enhancements here and there. I really like it. The setting is superb. Eastern Europa ftw!

I would put all my money to BI titles again. I don't regret any purchase since 2001!!! No game ever made me play it that long - not a single one!!! And so OFP is still on my HDD...with ArmA and Arma2 of course.

Loved OFP, no game like it. The great addon community that keeps giving and all the freedom the editor gives you. ARMA wasnt all that, but ARMA II brought it back up to date.

I everyone here !

I Didn't saw this post before today. I'm french 39 old and I play BIS from OFP.

OFrP is a must have for a french gamer. Numerous other mods too, Too Young To Die was one of the best for me. ArmA (1) didn't caught me at all, but I try now ArmA II (and I encounter a huge bug : I can't launch Campaign !). I still play OFP, nearly each day.

Enjoy freedom in all beautifull maps !

Cheers,

Jean-Marc

Hi Jean-Marc

Nice to see, that you are still around. Sorry to hear that you can't play armA II. There was a thread around where another guy had problems to launch campaigns, but they were user made if I'm not wrong. Did you try with a new install and patching up to last ufficial game patch? Maybe there are some files corrupt? In any case it's really strange, did you post in the troubleshooting threads? Maybe someone can help you solve your problem. ArmA II is more close to OFP than ArmA I was.

Kind regards

Another 2001 Ofp old-timer :)! unpatched for 4years as well, really stunning how the series has developed over the years, all credit to BIS and the community. Long may it continue

Hell, wanted to write some more on this topic... OFP brings back so many memories... Like when me and my best friend made a norwegian special forces camp in the middle of the desert, and all of a sudden you could hear this tivoli music playing and a buss full of tourists came riding by, followed by a shitload of civilians on bikes.

Oh, and the awe it gave me to find out that the motorcycle they added to resistance was in fact a JAWA, owning a JAWA mosquito myself, it was a blast.

To this day, operation flashpoint is among the best games I've ever played, and the same goes to both Resistance and Red Harvest. Even though they where expantion packs, they brought more value than most full priced games I've ever spend money on.

I started playing in 2001 with the demo. Play through the campain roughly one time every year. Hooked... Bought ARMA and ARMA II at the same time, being a bit dissapointed with ARMA I for several reasons after trying it at realease (+ my rig wasn't good enough). Now I enjoy both ARMA and ARMA II with my new, up to date rig <3

Speaking with my nephew today, the topic went to our best games ever (He likes Nintendo. He's 10 yr old) My answer was "OFP". "Why?" he asked. It was the first milsim every released and that it was groundbreaking. NO other game has come close to it for me. (TW series are amost equal.)

Except:

ArmA 2

Always get the newest BI games pre-ordered and run home like a kid at Christmass.

Bring on arrowhead!!!!!!

I have played OFP more than in Arma1 and Arma2 together.

At that time when everybody played OFP, I thought OFP to be a most realistic game that time, because of the huge islands and freedom. But now... when many game devs make games with huge playable territories this fact has moved to the last place. I expected great realism changes in so much advertised Arma2, but actually, I'm disappointed with it. Of course, not as much as I was disapointed with first Arma (played it only 2-3 times), but I expected BIS to use all the cores of CPU and all the power of GPUs at least. Let alone realistic damage system, physics, aerodynamics and on...

Seems like the game, I am waiting for, will be released only when 1000-GHz CPUs come out. (The modern researches show that graphene or quantum computers will beat this lines, and programmers will have learnt to utilize all the power of CPUs by that time)

I'm still playing, now playing ArmA2 with new nick - Bartchie in the =WBG= clan. I changed my nickname because last one was Tysiek and it was really hard to read for people from USA/UK .

Hey all. I just recently started getting into OFP again. Been spending the last couple weeks getting up to speed and tweaking the game with the latest mods. Now I'm knee deep in the editor working on a MP mission to play against my brother in. Which incidentally my brother was one of the people who made the "legawarz" mod. Originally "lego" they got popular enough to get a c&d from lego company which at the time was actually pretty exciting :).

Congrats ! Enjoy! I too had twins last year, stopped me from gaming as much as I did :)

Playing OFP since it came out.

the OFP installer is by itself worth it, even if I dont have time to play the game, every time i reformat or install a new OS I install OFP, just to hear the music and the voice-over.

Bought Arma in DVD, didnt play much, never got into it as stated above, no time.

Recently bought Arma II in Steam, I just wish I had a DVD to add to the collection and time to play. Rock On BIS!
