Eotore 10 Posted March 15, 2010 Hi,new to mods and finaly got ACE mod installed. That Six install mod progam that installs ACE mod has option to pick JTD fire/smoke i think no? Or is that the ACE modS own version. I played mostly online and didnt noticed the huge smoke effect that some of these pictures show, but noticed the fire effect on stuff was different.I can run the JTD FireAndSmoke with ACE online? Hi Eotore :) thanks for trying the mod. It sounds to me like you might not have the addon installed correctly, if you have JTD Fire And Smoke installed correctly, there's no way you can miss the effect :) Make sure you have the config files in the correct place, that seems to be the most common mistake people make. the.d 0 Posted March 16, 2010 [...], there's no way you can miss the effect :) I'll say!
Vick 19 Posted March 16, 2010 I've had no errors, running this mod along with WarFx and everythings smooth, the smoke looks awesome, thanks.
jpinard 10 Posted March 30, 2010 DMarkwick - Do you know what the BIS default values were for: * maximum concurrent fires * Smoke Lifetime Particle * Smoke Lifetime Source I see your default settings and I'm wondering how they compare to BIS.
dmarkwick 261 Posted March 30, 2010 DMarkwick - Do you know what the BIS default values were for:* maximum concurrent fires * Smoke Lifetime Particle * Smoke Lifetime Source I see your default settings and I'm wondering how they compare to BIS. There are no BIS default values for those, they only alter the JTD FAS settings and not the BIS effects settings. FAS is not changing anything - it's layering new stuff over the top. kroky 1 Posted March 31, 2010 @DMarkwick Is there a chance you revisit JTD FAS and check if it would be possible somehow to reduce the lag caused by this addon? Some scripts are delayed a lot when JTD FAS is running. Especially in combination with ACE2. Of course try to do it without loss of quality of the smoke :p
Tankbuster 1747 Posted March 31, 2010 Kroky, What I do is cut down the length of time the fires burn. At the moment, I have fires and smoke to last only a tenth of the default time. It doesn't reduce the lag from the addon as such, but as you get more and more fires, they die away quicker so reducing the cumulative lag.

Some scripts are delayed a lot when JTD FAS is running. Especially in combination with ACE2. Of course try to do it without loss of quality of the smoke :p Hi Kroky :) It seems the number of people who believe in "script lag" is rather small :) A lot of the time script lag (as I call it, I don't know a better term for it) is not apparent because it's not directly visible. Although sometimes you can see it if you try to rest your weapon on a wall in a terrific firefight using ACE2's weapon rest function, sometimes you need to wait several seconds or constantly retry to rest your weapon, and so script lag becomes apparent to you as a delay or a non-functioning action. Sometimes the lag is very apparent though, as in the case of FAS. A lot of people profess to simply not seeing it, but I know that I certainly do, because I have several such visual addons that show the effect. Of course, the implication is that script-lag affects more than just what you can directly see. Lord knows what other effects it's affecting, I'm thinking of AI scripts etc. As for "fixing" FAS, as mentioned you can turn down some settings to prevent accumulated lag, or otherwise try to arrange less dense battles perhaps, but going in and simplifying the code would most likely result in less dramatic and effective smoke. Plus, my time is sort of gobbled up right now with RL considerations.
jpinard 10 Posted March 31, 2010 Weird question. Is there a way I can use just the fire effects and not the smoke? I'm seeing weird large "prints" of black smoke that looks like a .jpg floating above the fire.
Kommiekat 12 Posted April 1, 2010 :p Hi Kroky, Your Spoiler shows you using VFAI. Is this feature not already used in GL4 or ACE2 now? (I forgot which one it's in)
icebreakr 3159 Posted April 1, 2010 Is there an optimized version of .hpp file intended for dedicated server use? Does the JTD F&S still write itself in the "required addons" in mission files?
Tankbuster 1747 Posted April 1, 2010 Icey, Don't know if this is relevant to your question, but I've found that in MP, the clients hpp file is ignored in favour of that on the server. Tanky -Paul-
kroky 1 Posted April 1, 2010 Hi Kroky,Your Spoiler shows you using VFAI. Is this feature not already used in GL4 or ACE2 now? (I forgot which one it's in) This thread is about JTD FAS. But short answer: I disabled it in GL4 because of the better scope of VFAI. In VFAI units pick up the weapons more intelligently. I.e. AT launchers. Didn't notice that ACE2 has this feature too. Vanilla ArmAII has though the feature that when a group is led by an AI group leader, they will rearm without VFAI too. @DMarkwick Ok I understand. I will check if I can optimize the smoke for me. The problem is exactly like you described it already. You can feel the lag when executing some scripts. Like the ACE2 interaction menu...
wiggum2 31 Posted April 1, 2010 Is there anything to know about the loading order if you use ACE2 ?
icebreakr 3159 Posted April 1, 2010 Tankbuster: sure its relevant, does anyone have a nice working example file for dedicated that doesn't lag out the server when big fights occur?
Tankbuster 1747 Posted April 1, 2010 I'm at work and don't have access to my gaming machine or servers, but if I remember correctly, I turned the lifetime variable for both smoke and fires to 0.1. A tenth of it's default.

Alex72 1 Posted April 4, 2010 ^^Same here. No problems with ACE and JTD Smoke & Fire. Make sure mod order is correct. CBA first and then all ACE mods. JTD after that. Good luck. About the MP issue not seeing smoke when joining. That was the same in ArmA1 and i dont know if it can be fixed completelly. In ArmA1 JTD smoke could also not show at all for others - join or not so definatelly a great step forward with this version. However only DM knows more in depth about this.
