manzilla 1 Posted September 7, 2009 are they going to address performance issues in the next patch? Just wait and see. Why wouldn't they? Performance has improved dramatically with previous patches.
Yapab 10 Posted September 7, 2009 Hopefully, I'm hosting COOP Campaign with a friend and in the Manhattan mission I'm getting 18fps... thats on a 3.5ghz Core2 Duo and GTX275... The strange thing is my CPU usage is about 70% to 75% and the GTX275 does not even heat up much past idle indicating its not working that hard... so I dont know what the bottleneck is... memory is fine with 4GB available and 866mhz. Maybe this game is really really CPU cache heavy and my E6420 only has 4mb... Yapa
KeyCat 131 Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) Performance has improved dramatically with previous patches. Can't say that applies to me, I've lost ~10 FPS since 1.02. I'm sure BIS will improve performance for all down the road we just have to be patience and wait... At the moment I think there are other things more important like stability issues (for some), fixing the porked sound, AI improvements etc. /KC Edited September 7, 2009 by KeyCat

Alex72 1 Posted September 7, 2009 LOL^ :D Ofcourse performance is going to be adressed. But it isnt a lego model they are building. Its slightly more complex. You wait and see - there will be change logs with the words "performance" in them soon enough.
Beagle 684 Posted September 7, 2009 Just wait and see. Why wouldn't they? Performance has improved dramatically with previous patches. That is just wishfull thinking and placebo effect. The only things that really improved performance for me was new ATI drivers...that's not a BIS achievement. randir14 10 Posted September 7, 2009 They said they're going to optimize buildings but so far the beta patches haven't done it.

thr0tt 12 Posted September 8, 2009 The performance improvements you are after have already been incorporated in the beta patches aparently with better multicore support... not sure what you expect but I can guarantee that if they could give you a 20fps+ booster patch then it would already be out there... 50.cal 10 Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) I wish they could at least : 1) Fix the stability issues (constant CTD) 2) Fix the campaign 3) Fix the missing and broken sounds 4) Fix the mouse lag 5) Fix the AI doing anything but what you tell them 6) Fix the AI unable to drive and to follow you 7) Fix the AI dying while disembarking from a chopper 8) Prevent the AI from disembarking when you use the "Move To" or "attack" command 9) Optimise whatever they have to in order to improve overall performance (I had no performance issue before 1.03) 3 month after the release the game is still unplayable for me. this; Edited September 8, 2009 by 50.cal
otrebla_snake_ita 2 Posted September 8, 2009 I hope they'll improve AI skill (and I hope AI will finally use buildings...NPCs don't use 'em since OFP...)
WhoCares 0 Posted September 8, 2009 They said they're going to optimize buildings but so far the beta patches haven't done it. Problem with that would be that the beta files would go from 30MB to 300MB+ in no-time if they added all fixed models.

maddogx 13 Posted September 8, 2009 Problem with that would be that the beta files would go from 30MB to 300MB+ in no-time if they added all fixed models. Yup, so far the betas seem to include mostly engine and UI changes. Considering how frequently a new build is released, this more than likely a conscious decision to keep the files small. InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 8, 2009 are they going to address performance issues in the next patch? put your terrain details to low/normal, it does help your fps.
zeep 3 Posted September 8, 2009 are they going to address performance issues in the next patch? WTG ... nicely wasted first post sage0030 ! Currently most of what is happening is the regular players getting used to the way ARMA2 runs and new players noticing the bad performance. Besides all the tweaks and everything, at some point i'd like to see an engine performance improvement realised by the devs.
shataan 1 Posted September 8, 2009 Well, bug fixes don`t = performance. What we need is a good dose of both bug AND performance fixes. I think peeps on the whole will feel better if they SEE that both are getting = attention. And I am sure BIS IS giving equal attention, but it is not reflected in the patches so far. InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) The ability to properly detect video ram on 8gb+ (system ram) rigs would plug a small hole in an otherwise leaky boat. don't you remember patch 1.16 beta for ArmA, after how many patches they addressed the 64bit system and memory! today we have more gamers on 64bit system than before, so this should have been done to ArmA2 release version not through patches!! oh lord. Also to add that Crysis has both versions of the game install on your system 32bit and 64bit. Edited September 9, 2009 by InFireBaptize
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted September 10, 2009 ...also to add that Crysis has both versions of the game install on your system 32bit and 64bit. Crysis is a completely different game, 64 bit memory addresses are twice the size of 32 bit ones and would require a re-hash of the coding. Get the bugs out of the way first, then ask BI to consider re-writing the game. There is a post somewhere by I think the CEO of BI explaining why there is no 64 bit version, maybe you should read it. Also, I would like a STEAK sandwich, not cheese.
mattxr 9 Posted September 10, 2009 I get great performance with the latest beta patch "ARMA2_Build_59025" with the patch before i was getting menu lagg and low fps in the menues but that has seemed to go now i dunno if anything was changed engine wise but i feel like there has been an improvment so i dunno.. anyways i guess its a win win situation more fixes ! maddogx 13 Posted September 10, 2009 maybe I should ask you the same question, are you just an idiot? it was a question, you people talk about me waisting bandwith, rofl. Lurk moar. ;) I get great performance with the latest beta patch "ARMA2_Build_59025" with the patch before i was getting menu lagg and low fps in the menues but that has seemed to go now i dunno if anything was changed engine wise but i feel like there has been an improvment so i dunno.. anyways i guess its a win win situation more fixes ! I haven't noticed any tangible performance improvements in the last patches. The framerate seems smoother somehow, but Fraps is still showing more or less the same numbers for different situations. Probably just imagining it. I guess any real performance improvements (if there will be any) will come when the full patch is released.

datter 0 Posted September 10, 2009 I would like to take a moment here to formally apologize to the community for my harsh and callous "cheese sandwich" post in the thread above. Judging by the reaction I've received from various parties this sort of comment is definitely not welcome here, nor should it be. I realize I have far overstepped the boundries of good judgment and common decency, but I do hope that my bitter, hateful "cheese sandwich" comment is taken in the context it was intended. This, as a subtle poke at all the things people are asking for in the next patch. "Why not ask for a cheese sandwich too?" I posited, and said so. What was sent as a simple commentary on the needs and desires of the community, arrived as a bitter and foul rebuke against all forum members, BIS and humanity in general. Dear God, what have I done? That I so poorly misjudged the delicate sensibilities of all involved, points to a willing sense of malice on my part and clearly I should (and have) been censured on the matter. For my part, I swear before God that I shall never even so much as contemplate the mention of "cheese sandwiches" here again, nor shall I make any attempt at being subtle. I do hope this apology was helpful in this most dire of matters, and would urge all so offended to quite simply lighten the **** up. Thank you.
