Loading old vanilla Arma maps in Arma 2 with CAA1 - Just Wow - Performance & Beauty

CAA1 will at least stay without unofficial release until ArmA II tools are out.

As Marek posted the info in the BIKI last week, it seems they are close though.

So first the RVMAT, texture compression and a few other minor things must

be sorted. At the same time more helping hands for the project are needed.

Tools are out, that's what ya waited for ain't it ? Do it work guys ! Do it work !

Hi guys I need your help

how could you make work the Ambience Civilians and Vehicles in non stock islands

I mean the ALICE and SILVE modules in aceip, arma1-islands

everything else works: acm, som, animals

I tried this example:

UTES

player

ALICE modul + init code: "this setvariable ["townlist",[[position this,200]]];"

and it works, only places civilians in a 200mts radius, not the whole island

I put the same in porto or sarhani and it doesn't works

also It seems complex for me, that game_logic locations and the functions modules, has someone succed place alice in non stock islands?

well from what I know several a2 modules relay on "locations".

these can be placed by scripted or as part of the world.

if anyone wants to go ahead and define them for a1 worlds great :)

it is simple text definition of type and position

From what I've read in the wiki so far, the Ambient Civs seem to check for "buildings with invisible doors" nearby - I'm guessing there might be some kind of list of suitable spawn points for them related to building positions - maybe inside the island files.... haven't looked as yet... if it IS just a simple list in there it should be easy enough to make for the CAA1 islands - a bit of a chore though...

My island uses only entrable houses, if I replace A1 houses with A2 would there be enough of that kind or very similiar?

hell, 21 pages of reading plus one more website and it still doesn't work.. and what's worse, i can't play online now, even after deleting all files downloaded from the website, which is really strange.. :(

edit: it's ok now, but. still:

Any chances it will be released as classic patch or something? Would help me a lot..

Amazing - I love being able to fight in cities again, and at a great frame rate. Terrain is a lot more varied than Arma2's to boot. Thanks for this, and many thanks for the awesome download speed.

CAA1 files updated. Have to download 2gb again. :(

Though it's no biggie, i just go to sleep and by morning it should be finished. Really appreciate the work these guys do.:)

You should use Yomas addon synch instead, that way only the relevant files will be updated. Unless this was some sort of huge update where every file was changed.

Confirming report on CAA1 site...

caa1_c_m113 requires addon caa1_s_m113

No caa1_s_m113.xxx files on server

All files have been changed by improving them with a2 tools out now. :)

I gave this a try and was surprised with the results.

It does look much nicer on Arma2 but I LOST FPS.

The top image is taken in ArmA1 FPS 36. Settings on High or very high.

The bottom image taken in Arma2 FPS 26. Settings on high or very high.

I did notice a large INCREASE in FPS when flying in Arma2

@Kju - Roger that - was 4am so took the easy option... ticket @dev-heaven from now on - gotcha...

GREAT work on this whole project, by the way... this Mod, plus a version of Domination A2 retro'd to Sahrani has actually persuaded a couple of my mates with lower-end machines to bite the bullet and go buy Arma2!

The only issue that could be fixed there is the grass. If you notice, in the one you took from ArmA, the grass is completely different. That was implemented with the beta 1.07 patch for ArmA. The one which the CAA1 team have ported to ArmA II does not contain that new, less demanding grass and instead has the more demanding grass from earlier versions of ArmA. I'd imagine, then, that this Sahrani was taken from an unpatched ArmA.

ArmA I is known to have very demanding / not perfeclty optimized vegetation.

Try to reduce shader settings.

NoPlants was an addon to remove the shaders from vegetation - independent to the

shader settings in video options. Maybe someone will port it.

In short:

1) No not the ArmA I campaign. It was too crappy.

2) There is a basic port of the Queen's Gambit. Yet it is really up to the community and

you to improve it to make it work nicely in ArmA II.

This seems unlikely. CAA1 is based on 1.16 + QG.

It would be great, if someone could verify that in the configs.

That said we might make an addon to switch vegetation off, a1, QG, SgtAce, ArmA II

Utes or ArmA II Chernarus. :)

You are joking right? Any good lawyer would take one look at that case and laugh... :rolleyes:

Anyway, the steam version can use mods, I'm not sure how though seeing as I own the DVD version. I'd recommend asking in the steam topic.

You can use mods, just put the things you have to type in the shortcut normally (-nosplash -world=empty -mod=@Vop2.1 for example) as start parameter in steam.

Right click on ArmA2 in Steam, choose Properties/Startparameter, and type it in.

You can find the ArmA2 folder where you have to place the files under Steam\Steamapps\Common.
