HiFi - Single Sound Modules (Weapons BETA released!!)

In MP I get something like "you cannot play/edit this mission due to HiFi..." even though I copied keys on server and everything. I got this in "when diplomacy fails", evolution and some other missions. Anyway I click OK and can play normaly without specific problems. First time I played with this mod first I got an error message about SMAW_HEAA. Dont know exacly what it was about. Then I got "you cannot..." - the first I wrote.

Otherwise I like the sounds a lot.

Great sounds Mark, I'm super impressed! ARMA2 is my first BIS game, but reading what others have said about your past sounds I knew the community was in for a treat. I knew they'd be good, but wow! I wasn't ready for *that* good ;)

I've got a small question though (and maybe others here can help me out)... I seem to et your HIFI sounds for default BIS weapons, but not for the added ACEX weapons. Is there something I need to do to get the sounds to apply for the "extra" weapons that ACE provides?

I run your HIFI mod after the ACEX_SM mod in the filepath. So your sounds *should* be overwriting ACEX where it can.

HIFI (in fact no sound mods) override custom weapons and in this case, ACEX weapons. There is a Hifi mod made specially for ACEX weapons called HIFI_ACE . Not as good as this beta one (in terms of sound randomness and variety) but its better than having unhified sounds right? :)

Okay, thanks for the info Jason! If I understand you correctly, in order to replace the custom firing sounds for the ACE custom weapons, a mod needs to specifically address the ACE custom weapons?

This would explain why HIFI overwrites the default bis weapons, but not the ACE... That's good to know! But now I'm a little bummed because it may be a while before players are able to get a consistent sound across all weapon platforms (custom and default alike) :(

@Spectator, That's exactly right! :) Sounds are specifically tagged to each weapon name and need to be specifically made for each specific weapon. That is why all sound mods replace the default BIS sounds as you really can't go around checking the names of ALL the weapons mods out there and making the sounds work for all of them. There is a HIFI_ACE mod somewhere which replaces the ACEX weapons with HIFI sounds. I forgot where the link is, maybe you can make a search.

There is a HiFi_ACE mod, but it has yet to be released ;)

m240 coax and a10 FFAR sounds have to go, but it's really great!

Again..If you don't like the sounds of a particular weapon module/s, place them in a disabled folder and use another sound addon to replace the sound. I'd don't change things on a whim or on a single request especially when NO reason is given. You really need to learn how to give detailed feedback if you really want something changing. Look at mrcash's posts for reference ;)

The above weapon sound modules have been completed, tested and should be added to the beta weapons for tomorrow. The XM8's are still causing me problems not to mention the m16's. I took onboard what mrcash had said and set about trying to fix it, which I did (without using the DMR too!). However, this breakthough in sound made me want to create slight variations to each m16 class. Just like the HiFi M4's...Soo great, I did the sounds, in the editor they sound great...but do you think I can get the configs to work....lol

Anyways, I'm not asking for help anymore, as much as it is appreciated without 'real hands on' assistance it just gets me more confused. So either I grow a brain or we wait for Andersson to return....

Where is the white wizard when you need him :)

I have plans a plenty mate, but time is a different story. So we'll see what happens eh ;)

AT LAST THE AKM!!!!! Geez, I use the AKM and the CZ in Harvest Red more than any other weapons!

I think you'll enjoy the new hunting rilfe Jason, sounds better than the vanilla 'dirty harry' magnum sound....

How you do sir. I am using the six-updater and it tells me that I have version 2 of @HiFi & HiFi_extras? Is this correct or did you just release a new version and for some reason it is not updating?

Your work never fails to blow my ears up Mark. :) From ArmA1 to ArmA2, you are the only sound mod I use. :) Will feedback when I get down to testing it... gotta hit the bed now...yawn! hahahaha

Oo before I forget, I've just started laying out folders for ACE2 weapons sound replacements. I was going to follow the ACE_SM standard but have changed my mind based on the comments you've posted regarding the HiFi weapons BETA. I'm some way off even testing at this stage, but when the weekend comes I'll put some time in ;)

I ave a question, how realistic are the HIFI Sounds for the Weapons? I know you did a damn good job with the A-10 Sounds, But I for example really would like to have a realistic AK Sound

Ok for example, the m16 sound. I went out and got as many sources and references to this weapon as I could. Then, I look at what I have and try to capture the 'character' of the weapon. So the M16 sound started out as roughly 7 different 'captures', I usually break these into groups (attack sound/trailoff sound).Then once the sounds have been cleaned up and volume matched its onto the next phase which is cutting, cropping & overlaying.

By building up the 'final' sound this way, I can keep making adjustments while having something to fall back on if I edit too much (just like over-writing a song I guess). This also allows me to gain constant feedback from the HiFi playtesters whom are very hard to please... trust me ;)

I always 'wiki' a weapon to get as much info as possible, and on the off chance I get to talk with people who fire these weapons and send them my work. Feedback is crucial to doing a good job, of course artistic license plays a part too. For example I added low end to nearly everything to simulate 'over-pressure'. Just like ACE2 has simulated this visually I thought I'd try and produce this effect audibly. I've had some interesting feedback about this effect already, but once I explain why I've done it, most people are happy :).

Anyways, that was a very brief explanation I guess..lol, are my sounds realistic was the question... I guess you'll be the judge of that ;)

Some extra stuff I wanted to share that didn't really fit in with the smallarms.

I think I did all the man portable launchers, and some vehical mounted weapons like the m2hmg and mk19 nade launcher.
