Title says it all.

Personally, I am somewhat disappointed by this unnecessary replacement of the good old notebook with this new nondescript interface.

CWR... I think it will be brought back if it is beeing ported to ArmA II.

Personally, I'd like the idea of a laptop, but the mood of the game was all decisive.

I think it's quite clean and easy to navigate. It also obscures less of the map - I often found myself moving the notebook out of the way in order to see what it was talking about, then moving it back. And every time I actuallyed played the game I'd have to double-click it to make it smaller, so it's nice not having to do that anymore.

Can the new interface display graphics? I've only quickly looked at the briefing for the first scenario in the demo and it doesn't look it can. That might be a bit of a step backwards, as sometimes mission designers did put useful pictures in the notes.

I agree with the guy above, irritated the hell out of me in Arma 1 when I had to do that all the time.

The new interface is much better :yay:

I liked the old notebook tbh, but this is much cleaner. The old one gave me the feeling of being in the field though.

The old notebook was so old fashion, cumbersome, ugly ect.. Never liked it even on Ofp.

The new map interface is definitely an improvement and in addition, it's pretty well designed, BiS surprised me.

Dont like it.

White text on a green backround isnt that readable + eyefriendly like black on white. Hope that colors are at least customiseable. Would be good to see an notebook+map where you could see that it is in use instead of a antiseptic scifi interface.

I would like to have old ability, of turning terrain off/on. But I like the rest of the interface.

The interface is fine. Definitely a lot more clearly arranged than the old notebook. I always found that very fiddly and unintuitive.

when i press "M" i expect to see a map... and thats exactly whats happening... job done.

would be nice to have one more "zoom in " step though.

Cleaner and more professional looking in my view.

Tidy and to the point, layed out simpler, quick navigation, worthy of the update.

I've never played a mission where i didn't shrink it and pull it off the screen to get it out of the way, and now I don't need to. After I get used to not needing to look for the notepad to recheck the briefing, it will be great.

Would like to see old one and new is as ok but I am never fully satisfied of anything due there is no possibility to get unlimited amount of options to get what you want. It bring some atmosphere to game when you see MI being intuitive and complex to use.

I like it. Like the "check boxes" that brings up all the info i need. I liked the old one (who doesnt. nostalgic *sob*), but the new one feels modern to me and does its job good.

Thumbs up for the new map here too...

Tho has anyone been running fraps and checked their framerates while in map mode...?

Mine vary wildly depending on zoom - 50fps zoomed in, 5 fps when zoomed out and the map actually lags as you drag it???

Wierd

Nice design tho

And, yes.... wheres the "textures off" button - I instinctively looked for it thinking it might help with the lag, but it wasnt there...

I'd like to see hill and mountain heights on the map not printed over the hill/mountain name, its really hard to read either without zooming all the way in.

I'm loving the new interface, no more moving notebook to side.

I am undecided on one side it fits the campaign and era of the game on the other hand I miss the old one cause it wasnt really linked to any age you could have american civil war briefings on it and it didnt look word same for ww2 and more modern one's.

I also Like the new map system. Couldn't stand the notebook, so fiddly, thankfully they have avoided the piddly nostalgia and brought it more up to date.

I do however think the 'texture on/off' button should be re-implemented as zooming fade thing does seem to do a number on the FPS.

Overall, a serious improvement.

I am somewhat disappointed by these responses.

How anyone can prefer the new game-y sci-fi computer interface crap to the good old eminently immersive notebook is beyond me.

I love it, from demo testing only. Takes up far less screen estate and easy to use. At least from the players perspective. The notebook took up too much screen realestate, but was fairly easy to do from a mission designers pov. The new one looks like it can become a problem, despite being far much powerful.

Can anyone post a screenshot? im at work here :<

Here's the map zoomed out: 200KB jpeg / 1.5MB PNG

This is it zoomed in: 320KB jpeg / 2.3MB PNG

I switched to a different part of the mission info in the menu at the top left so you can get an idea of how they work.

A notebook with a magically updating map you can scroll around on was 'immersive'? :)

I don't see the new interface as at all sci-fi, and it's no more "gamey" than a gimmicky "notebook" with magical hyperlinks. The new interface also fits in with all the other UI components of the game.

I didn't really dislike the notebook, aside from the fact that it took up half the screen and therefore you had to choose if you wanted to be able to see the map properly, OR read the mission briefing. Now we can do both. So it gets a thumbs up from me.
