Topper Harley 0 Posted May 30, 2009 i posted this on german forums: , they say that BIS said that the infinite land will be included in the final version (505 Version).

icebreakr 3156 Posted May 30, 2009 I'm pretty sure that 505 Release and patch will contain areas beyond this "border", hopefully BIS will take care of that soon ;)
walker 0 Posted May 30, 2009 Hi all Aparently the AI work in Infinite Land too. If true this has amazing consequenses. Kind regards walker
walker 0 Posted June 20, 2009 Hi all I did my first expedition to infinite land. Two Fly overs with jets. One Landing As BIS stated it is different each time you restart the mission. On the first mission it was rolling prairie or steppe. On the second it was a broken land; the kind you see where there has been earthquakes and volcanoes at some time in the past but where it has weathered down a bit so the sharpest edged disappear. The flora, until BIS change it with any future patch, is currently short grass. Fauna seen, butterflies and birds of prey. In both cases it felt well... what I can only describe as eerie. I would not like to stay there alone for long. I think you would start to see things. It is the kind of place I would expect to see a Chernogorsk Bigfoot. Anyway. We need to develop tools and a project plan for the expedition. We are going to need a server that we can leave on. So volunteers? Then we can start to plan. Steakslim 1 Posted June 20, 2009 If I had the game I would Walker, I would, lol.
Balgorg 10 Posted June 20, 2009 The randomly generated terrain is more interesting that cheranus.
frederf 0 Posted June 21, 2009 As BIS stated it is different each time you restart the mission. That sucks! If you could specify a procedural generation seed then you could do so much more cool stuff instead of leaving it up to fate. Also Walker You have to stop making posts like this that have so many double carriage returns in them, it's really freaking annoying to read Kind Regards, Frederf
Scrub 0 Posted June 21, 2009 LOL, @ Frederf. I'm up for it. But we need to bring something other than string or bread crumbs to find our way back. The fauna will eat the bread crumbs, and the Chernarussian bigfoot likes big balls of string.. or so I hear. ;)
walker 0 Posted June 21, 2009 (edited) Hi Frederf Learned typing with someone who insisted on double spacing. An old habit that is very hard to stop. Whenever I look at typed text in blocks without double carriage returns, they do not look correct. Anyway going to try to work up an initial expedition plan including the roles that need filling. It would be nice if we could run the expedition continuously in a single random generated terrain. With shifts of drivers from different time zones and the ability to jip back in to you own character. We will need some small preparatory expeditions. To work out what we need to find out. And to define and refine the expedition plan. Kind Regards walker ---------- Post added at 12:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 AM ---------- Hi all I did my third and fourth expedition to Infinite Land; this time along the NE coast. The coast is not straight. It is a proper coastline but the land extends below the shore so you have a proper sea bottom. The visual surface of the sea is not there (a bug) but its affects are if you hit it in an aircraft you explode if you walk in to it you can swim and you loose equipment after a while. I have not yet confirmed if it creates islands. This subsurface land under the sea gets darker as you get further from land and it gets deeper. I am dubbing it the Infinite Black Sea. As before it feels eerie. And I wanted to fly back, though the coastline feels less eerie but it still felt forlorn especially the ribbon of water along the coast. So I am guessing that part of the human reaction is lack of reference. Kind Regards walker ---------- Post added at 12:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 PM ---------- Hi all Sixth Expedition. There be rivers! OK I can confirm that depending on random seed value (Suma can you let us know how to find what the seed number is, so we can start doing the research and cataloging) there are rivers, estuaries and inland lakes and islands some gigantic others dotted archipeligoes. All look natural. This is really amazing. Continuing the sixth Expedition I landed on one of the medium size random islands. I have about half my fuel left, so future expeditions will need refuel capabilities. The island itself is about 3 times the size of Rahmadi in ArmA 1. I also overflew an island that I thought was giant estuary like the ones I had seen before but in fact it was an island about the size of Sahrani. Suma we realy need to know what these seed numbers are; can you put a method of finding them in the wiki or add it to the next patch. Or maybe a small tool to get them and change them. A simple GetLandSeed and SetLandSeed would be great. Kind Regards walker Edited June 21, 2009 by walker
horror1 10 Posted June 21, 2009 i think infinite sea is way more interesting than land, cause the water quality is so nice that i would love to see some good ww2 naval battles on endless sea. silent hunter 4 in arma2 the ultimate warsim :D
walker 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Hi horror1 Infinite sea has always been there in the Real Virtuality engine since OFP days. But the coastline is amaizing see my previous post for the fourth fith and sixth expeditions and augers well for what we may be able to do once we have Flora then Fauna then Urban environements randomly created. We already know AI and Animals can be created in it. Kind Regards walker
EricM 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Actually now you have BOTH infinite see and inifinite land...
Flamin-h 0 Posted June 21, 2009 From what I remember, both tribes 1 and delta force 2 had infinite land.
walker 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Hi all Well my Sixth expedition once again to the Black Sea NE coast of Infinite Land ended in my death. :( I ran out of fuel, as expected, and without fuel no Auto hover so I tried to put it down and crash landed. The coast is very realistic. I saw estuaries, rivers, peninsulas, islands of all sizes, places the looked like salt marshes, inland sea lakes some of so big I thought I was following a giant peninsula. Once we have the seed number, maping the coasts is going to be an epic job for teams of people. Kind regards walker ---------- Post added at 02:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:12 PM ---------- Hi all Consider some of the possibilities once we have the random seed numbers. Once we can pass them around we can then ivestigate the possiblity of runing cloud servers with certain servers designated to handle different areas of a streaming infinite terrain. Meaning that bit then becomes persistent and can be actualised and maintained by that server. Players can then be able exist and persist in a permanent infinite environment. We can build and maintain whatever we want. Fight persistent gigantic wars over a massive land. Or just build and exist. A MMOG end all MMOG. Kind Regards walker
ahmedjbh 0 Posted June 21, 2009 would be nice to have a few screen shots of the new infinite terrain. Does it still look like the release version, very dark and flat?
Armin2 10 Posted June 21, 2009 Ok what are you talking about ? There are some random hills next to the main map but there are absolutely no objects/ points of interests there. Is there any plan of adding trees and grass ?
lwlooz 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Hello there, I see that you have a lot of fun walker... in your particular way. So the terrain is different each time? Now after the testing period and getting this to work with random vegetation and random roads (or rather elongating road termini) the seed [or however it works] surely needs to be specific to one island. Meaning the island characteristics/config values determine the seed for the infinite terrain. Looking forward to how this develops.
Tureis 10 Posted June 21, 2009 Well it's true, Random Generated, but I don't care. Also can you give us some pictures Walker? Please? :(

abs 2 Posted June 21, 2009 If I die in Infinity have I really died? Everyone missed Walkers most important questions. Allow me to answer it. Yes. Abs PS: I know what you mean, Walker, when you say it feels weird. It's almost like staring at one of those life-like sex-dolls. It's just creepy being in the infinite land.
