If that's true, it means that a Quad Core will be of much more use than a Dual Core, even if the latter is faster than the former. 550w should be more than enough for your configuration, assuming the PSU is of good quality (How old is the PSU?)The big question here is what motherboard you have. Certain older chipsets may not be compatible with Quad Cores. Although the chances are that your motherboard will accept a quad core no problem. not totally correct. One of the Devs has already confirmed that depending on workload and the current situation, either higher clock or more core would yeild more performance. Well, I'm just reiterating what a dev said a month or two ago about how a fast dual core would be preferable to a slow quad core. Skeptic 10 Posted June 3, 2009 I think folks could interpolate how Arma2 would behave between these cpu's. This should help you somewhat: AnandTech Bench tool. How to use it: 1. Select first CPU in "Choose first product" window 2. Select second CPU you want it to compare against in "Choose second product" window 3. Click on "View comparison button" Scroll down to games. Sorry, no Arma there, but at least it will give you an idea. Kind Regards Hey Catito, I have a c2Duo with 2.1 ghz, 3 gig of ram, and a GTX 285 1gig So far I get pretty decent frames but my processor(my bottleneck) dies when there is a lot of AI activity. I'll have to update to really enjoy ARMA2. You might also want to upgrade eventually to a quad core. Dont get me wrong ARMA2 will run fine on your system but maybe with medium to low(Which still looks great). Again processor seems to be the most important part. trini scourge 1 Posted June 4, 2009 I@ve just done some testing on FPS with Fraps.on Boot Camp I get 75fps with everything on High, fillrate @ 100%, view dist at 3km. During the Campaign I am at this bit where my FPS is very low. it hovers around 25fps + or - 3fps and doesn't reall vary much. Looking straight at the ground or straight up doesn't change it like you'd normally expect. Furthermore, I then set everything as low as possible. even fill rate @ 50%. The Fps's didn't change at all. Either this is down to an issue in the graphics engine, or poor optimisation, or the bottle neck is totally down to the cpu and AI requirements at the time. My Spec is Windows7 64bit 4GB Ram Core 2 Duo @ 3.2GHZ GTX 260 216 - latest drivers. I don't think it's your cpu. I have an overclocked i7 and get the same problem. I usually get 55-60 fps @ 1920X1080 Very High with 100% fillrate, but when playing the campaign it drops to 25fps. I hope BIS releases a performance patch soon. During first mission of campaign I've over 25fps, so it means that is always smooth and stable. Only thing what I've noticed is that you need more then 2Gigs of ram memmory when you've got Windows7. I had to disable all applications, ICQ, Skype etc. After this ArmA got enough free resources. I'll buy today 2Gigs so I hope it'll be OK. I've got AMD 64 X2 6400+ and both cores was used mostly for 80%, sometimes 90%. Still I'm not sure if changing graphic card to 4870x2 will make ArmA playable with full detail in 1920 x 1200, during warfare or bigger mission like domination or evolution (if they come to ArmA2). sidhellfire 0 Posted June 4, 2009 The CPU multiplier is often locked (or allows only downgrade), and that's the only way of OC w/o stressing memory. Rest is just increase of FSB freq. Shouldn't be too bad. Most stuff on normal, some things maybe on high or very high, maybe some settings on low for best performance in towns. Probably quite similar to Fleshpound (see above). I'm not sure how well the game scales to four cores, so it's hard to say how a 3.0GHz dual core will perform in comparison to a 2.4GHz quad.
