The visual layout gives a strong hint about the factions.

Allied parties are side to side:

USMC - CDF

RUSSIA - ChDKZ

NAPA - Civilians

Napa is either independents or armed civilians.

Well, while we don't have "harder" evidences about what NAPA really is, if I would have to bet about NAPA I would bet in the same "theory" of maionaze. I believe this could be what NAPA is, a armed (and independent) civilian faction.

This faction would probably by the "key" faction that will change your campaign gameplay according with your actions since we already know that BIS told us that ArmA2 campaign alliagences and gameplay and a system of "public support" to "your cause" will change, depending how the player advances and plays the campaign.

So my speculation (based on what was said till now) is the following:

- NAPA is inicially NEUTRAL and suspicious to both sides (USMC/CDF and Russia/ChDKZ)

- If the player plays the campaign with great regard to civilians-locals faction (the supposed "right way") like warning the civilians about attacks, not killing civilians, etc... the NAPA will join forces with the player side later in the game giving a certain advantage to the player, since having 3 factions (USMC/CDF/NAPA) against 2 factions (Russia/ChDKZ) should in the end be better.

- If the player plays the campaign with disregard to civilians (the locals faction), like for example killing civilians the NAPA could probably join forces with the opposing faction (Russia/ChDKZ) giving a disadvantage to the player since instead of having to fight against 2 factions (Russia/ChDKZ) it must fight against 3 factions (Russia/ChDKZ/NAPA).

Well, my 2 cents for now... smile_o.gif

Russia might be a "Peace-Keeper" in the conflict to make sure the CDF don't collapse the pro-Russian faction in a war. (like in Giorgia)

so do you think they control the airport? because its in the middle.

napa got own aircraft? maybe some focker dr1?

I doubt , that they will have any kind of aircraft . MAybe a civil plain for "scounting" .

I bet they are a bunch off undecided blokes , that live in the forrest and do their weekly raid on something.

Maybe maybe not, BIS has definately been hiding some vehicles from what I saw in the video, the most obvious example would be th USMC MTVR.

I was personally wondering when this vehicle would be seen as there had been no signs of it and I was worrying that, since it appears in the early 'speculated' OFP2 screenshots. There are also other things.

The number of factions is also interesting, it will be a nice change and could if used properly open all sorts of new doors in welfare.

Yes inicially I believe they should. But probably they could change sides in a later part of the campaign (joining the player's side or the enemy side) depending on the decisions made by player.

If I'm not mistaken BIS hinted that there was a faction (perhaps even more than one faction) that could join or become hostile towards the player. BIS also hinted about the "public" (civilians or known in ArmA2 as "Locals") suport, which could simpatize or hostilize the player (again depending on his/hers decisions during the campaign) so perhaps if NAPA is what we think it is, this faction could be the one or one of the factions that can change sides (between Friendly, Neutral or Enemy) during the campaign in ArmA2 depending on the player's relationship with the "Locals".

Um.. am I correct in remembering that I read that ArmA2 will have MORE than the current 3 sides? Why do most people still think on a two party prefered basis?

NAPA are cops.

NAPA are cops.

I doubt they are cops... As seen in the Citizen video , CDF have their own Police branch

Once again I agree with maionaze. Cops (Police departments) belong to the goverment the same way that Armed Forces also belong to the goverment. So in ArmA2 cops and armed forces should be the same thing, which is the armed branch of the Chernarus "legitimate" government which by it's turn should be represented (including both cops and Armed Forces) in ArmA2 as the CDF faction.

Besides many countries in the world (or at least in Europe) usually have Police branches that directly belongs to the Armed Forces which by it's turn usually complements the Civilian Police branches. This is for example the case in the country where I live.

So I stronlgly believe that in ArmA2 world the Chernarus Police Force is like maionaze said, a branch that belongs to the Chernarus Defence Forces (CDF).

Because Wars (at least the real ones) are usually fought by 2 sides (or parties). wink_o.gif

Even in wars like the civil war that ravaged Ex-Yugoslavia (specially in Bosnia) in the 90's which incially involved several sides or parties (in this case 3 sides: Serbs, Croats and Bosnian-Muslims fighting each other) end up being fought thru alliances by 2 sides (in this case: Croats and Bosnian-Muslims with NATO help against the Serbs).

It wasn't that simple, that is situation in war's end. Croatians fought against Bosniaks in -93. Were they having alliance with serbs for that brief time, i don't know for sure. I haven't seen any info about having such.

UN was third party in war, it didn't form any kind official or unofficial alliances to any side. UN Peacekeepers form various countries on ground gave it also physical presence in war.

As a side note: While trying to just tone down war UN was doing favor to Serbia by it's ban of weapon shipment for any side involved in war (Bosniaks were in desperate need of weapons, Serbia wasn't). This was source of major anger to Bosniaks towards UN and i'm not sure how they feel about whole organization these days.

meh I don't realy belive they would be , just throwing the idea out there.

However tis a bit simplistic to say that cops and army are the 'same' because they work for the same gov't. In many countries Military forces have very strict codes of allegiance and ideals within, as do the police. And I can think of a number of occasions in recent decades where the 2 branches have conflicted, usualy during a military coup d’état, where one side claims it fights for the people while the other just for power.

Though your right about it being unlikely in Europe. In many 'western' countries the two branches are given very seperate and specific powers so idealogicaly they are actualy given seperate causes to fight for.

I supose the real clue that they not cops is the flag with the crossed swords.
