kronzky 5 Posted August 15, 2007 This is the place to put any non-ArmA screenshots or videos you've made or come across. It should be somewhat topical (i.e. related to games, military, computers, etc.), and of course fall within the normal board rules (images <100K, no gore, no flame-baiting, etc.), but other than that, feel free to post any cool or interesting media here that you think might be appreciated by other users. sanctuary 19 Posted August 19, 2007 From the nice (playable with joystick, mouse, keyboard) and free flying simulator YSFlight (tons of addons can be found starting from here) damn jpg compression artifacts... A french Mirage 2000 taking off a carrier The Mirage encounters a russian Tu-22M3 The Tu-22M3 decides to engage the Mirage with its back gun. Bad idea, the Mirage defends itself, shoots its missiles successfully on the Tupolev. The Tu-22M3 is going down in flames The Mirage finally makes a safe landing on a nearby friendly airport (landing on a carrier with mouse is too hard for me )

Trapper 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Yeah, I remember an early promotion video released before 2000. There it still looked more like what Battlefield and it clones look now. It's probably the better idea to make it more unique nowadays, as it's rules are more about fun and balance anyway. After many years this seems to be a game I'm eager to buy again. It's sad but this video and the others show more heart and dedication than ArmA to me.

sanctuary 19 Posted August 22, 2007 WOAH FSX say goodbye ;o) more seriously, even if on the graphic department YSFlight can't compete, an advantage of YSFlight , not only being free and very fun, is that YSFlight currently allow the player, offline or online, to fly thousands (there are actually more than a thousand of plane addons) of aircrafts , either real/past/future/scifi/helicopters... For fighting, for just flying or even to build some aerial show like the blueangels in formations. It is simple, for a free game that is so easy to play while having a nice flying model, i never saw so many addons released. You can actually fly (or fight or make bombing/torpedoe runs) with not only some AI, alone or in formations, but you can even fly with yourself , as there is a very good replay feature that offer the possibility to actually fly in the same time your previous self redo your previous fly/combat. YSFlight is actually a very good "coffee break" game, maybe the only "coffee break" flying sim i ever saw : you launch the game in few seconds, you setup your flight/combat/show in few other seconds and you can play for few minutes if you don't have the time for more and have great fun anyways. One of those games that prove that graphics is way less important than gameplay and features.

sanctuary 19 Posted August 26, 2007 Another good freeware flying sim : Flightgear. Though not as pure fun as Ysflight, Flightgear is very interesting for a fly simer as it features a higher level of realism with nearly professional features seen (and sometime not even seen) in serious flying simulations. Being open source, this game has a lot of user content and tons of possibilities , just get a look in the feature page, (but unlike YSFlight, it does not seems to allow air combat ... yet as there seems to be some move toward that). Can be used with joystick/mouse/keyboard, some planes and helicopter are featuring complete clickable 3D cockpit, exactly like in Falcon 4.
sanctuary 19 Posted August 26, 2007 More Flightgear goodness. On this page, after downloading and installing some european sceneries for Flightgear , i flied a bit around with my mouse/keyboard combo on one of the different planes to see if i could see location i know. After a long flight i ended near this town somewhere in France, but i had absolutely no idea where i was, as i was flying randomly and got totally lost (i don't know yet each functions of the software regarding gps, airport tower radios etc..) So as i read that sceneries in Flightgear are using very good precision, i decided to test what could be seen on the upper part of the red HUD in the screenshot (the longitude and latitude coordinates "46 37 405 N" and "1 05 109 E"). Then i rounded them and entered : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">46 37 40, 1 5 11 in the search field on the google maps website. Pressed enter and ....awesome result nearly spot on with what can be seen on the screenshot. When you think you can download and install nearly every location of the world to fly around all of them, for an open source software that cost you ... nothing ... to play , it is very impressive, even if the maps are not as detailled as the real thing (it lacks tons of small towns and villages). All it needs now is some working air combat code to be as fun as YSflight is.
