Imshi-Yallah 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Just out of curiousity are there any of you out there who like playing ArmA but don't particulary like the whole advance to contact bit? Anyone who'd be happy just: Driving around in a Hmmwv doling out ammunition and carrying casualties back and forth Driving convoy vehicles Rearming/Refueling and Repairing/Combat vehicles Operating as a field medic etc If you would be, how seriously would you take it and why do you think you would enjoy it. Would you rather just tool around on your own, with likeminded people or provide service support to more traditional teams? Edit: and if you did would you object to also being a door gunner/support weapons crewman
Infam0us 10 Posted April 7, 2007 I would like being a Transport pilot and a Medic, its just as important as Infantry!
sirex 0 Posted April 7, 2007 field medic. love it :-) shame berzerk servers dont have medics, otherwise thats what id do.
SeppSchrot 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I love doing logistical stuff because I can't survive five seconds in combat Well, seriously, I really enjoy these things as much as fighting.
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 7, 2007 i enjou flying LB to deploy squads ... sadly i wish there is modification with mg but able carry 3-4 man with some weapon mount (like Defender 500)
Dallas 9 Posted April 7, 2007 As long as there's a specific task to do, I welcome the variation and don't mind standing by if it serves a purpose. The most obvious support role in ArmA is transportation, willing transport pilots are especially easy to find. ArmA is a Combat sim, but can easily become a soldiering sim by mission design. The mission just have to be put together so the sometimes ordenary tasks also become interesting.
Jack-UK 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I do this all the time on Evolution. Im usually quick to get a high rank and i'll fly the choppers myself shipping people back and forth to objectives. If i crash, i take my own responsibility of getting a repair/refuel truck and recovering the aircraft. Its good fun, and its often appreciated by those who need a lift to these long distance objectives. Its also immersive I hate to rambo, so when i get on servers, i'll identify those who work as a team and talk to em and work with them. Whether it be in a non-combat support role, or working with them in a combat situation.
HulkingUnicorn 0 Posted April 8, 2007 I'm not a good driver, but if we only have a few cars I usually end up as a taxi driver I'm not the best fighter available, and I don't mind or often like the supporting roles (especially evacuating people from hot zones with BH etc - I'm better in the air than on the ground). Turkmenbashi 0 Posted April 8, 2007 I like to do both. Get satisfaction from killing enemy as well as delivering the people who do.
ck-claw 1 Posted April 8, 2007 I prefer the support roles as im absolutely crap shooter! I dont mind not being in the thick things aslong as i have a use!
Jimboob 0 Posted April 8, 2007 I love being a medic, but also as a support machine gunner that hangs back and provides covering fire for other team's or members to move up.
Imshi-Yallah 0 Posted April 9, 2007 Well being a pilot or a machinegunner in an infantry section is a specialised role in itself. So I would rule those out of the imaginary job spec above.
frederf 0 Posted April 9, 2007 I like manning the fuel/repair/ammo trucks at a helicopter rearm base. Keeps 'em flying and fighting without them having the temptation to shortcut and leave trucks scattered on the landing pads.
mrj-fin 0 Posted April 12, 2007 I have been players such of role in OFP crCTI where I always keep gears of wars of their 100 % health and effiniences, I am controlling of support vehicles to another players damaged tanks , AI groups ammunition and medical threathment so that is one of the most important thing expecially in more advanced game modes like CTI, RTS. As in real world reality a war without a proper support of whole army is a question of time when whole packet will fall down.
-HUNTER- 1 Posted April 12, 2007 I just had a few MP games, and I was doorgunner, medic, and humvee driver... How about co pilot! In the blackhawk for instance... Cobra with human crew is deadly as F...
OrLoK 20 Posted April 12, 2007 hello I adore support roles, and wish more was included, ie ferrying wounded/dead to base to heal/resurrect (much better than respawn) Mod anyone? But as repair/rearm/refuel driver Im happy too. and have spent hours driving from one place to another to get a helo/nme tank fixed. Thats what i always loved about ofp/vbs, was the fact you could think outside the box. I once pushed a dmaged bmp with a hummer for miles and miles to get it repaired and useful for our side. Once repaired, we got blown up in seconds , but the fun was in the getting it back to base. But too much emphasis is on point whoring IMHO at the mo, but i believe, with mods/maps/scripts such as evolution etc I think we are on the way to a well rounded sim. I want more "carebear" roles in Arma. rgds LoK
Scrub 0 Posted April 12, 2007 I'm with Frederf and Orlok on this. Getting someone fixed up and rearmed, or establishing a forward ammo dump is just as important in some aggressive mission types as actually pulling the trigger. After all, if you get too close to the action, you wind up doing both anyway. If someone doesn't fill the gaps in ferring, supply, and repair, it means there are people not focused on completing the mission trying make up for it. robs456 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Seems to me like the lot of you would like it in a tourney like http://www.ic-arma.com.

walker 0 Posted April 14, 2007 Hi sirex Who gave you the right to make a superb mission first try? Do what all the rest of us do; make bad ones untill you learn to make good ones! Kind Regards walker
Imshi-Yallah 0 Posted April 15, 2007 Why don't you like minded chaps get together, conduct a bit of training then offer your services to the highest/nicest/bestest bidder You could provide support for other clans or be bait or provide the driver/gunner/maint elements for convoy missions while teeth clans provided security. sirex 0 Posted April 15, 2007 hmmm, im a guessin' you didnt actually play the mission ! heh. anyhow i learnt alot from it (landing choppers on cue in armed assault is designed to make you bald, for instance). going to get it working fully, soon as i've worked out how to make objectives actually work. ... and that briefing.html file ? whats that all about ? - it's like someone deliberatly tried to take the most obscure way to link plain text into the map creation process, and screwed it up. what's wrong with having the editor create it for you ? is that too much to ask ? "maybe i could charge peple in armed assault for healthcare!"
daikan 1 Posted April 17, 2007 ferrying wounded/dead to base to heal/resurrect (much better than respawn) Mod anyone? now this is a very interesting idea, especially in a PvP game. something like a dynamic respawn slot/timer depending on whether the corpses get ferried back to base or to the nearest field hospital would be a nice challenge and add realism. too bad my time as modder and mission editor is severily limited..
