Ask a moderator about the forum and the rules

Recommended Posts

What about slightly increasing the allowed size, but putting a cap. on the number of parts allowed? (guessing you will find that to hard to moderate)

That would be harder to moderate than it is now, it's not going to change, 100kb is more than plenty for the average image usage and for the anally obsessed as mentioned they have the luxury of wasting their life making split images wink_o.gif

With which moderator do I need to talk when I want my uuugly WL thingy removed. Ive still got some time on it though. smile_o.gif

Any mod you want to talk to. Preferably the one you got the box from, but any other will do too. smile_o.gif

Edit: You received that box around a month ago... forget about a fast removal and ask again in ~6 months.

This has been discussed not long ago, few months maybe. And we decided to leave it as it is. I doubt things will change just a few months later.

Sigh... Learning how to quote sometimes helps mad_o.gif

Yeah for the first time I done something seriously against the rules in 5 years.

First time I do something really wrong, get slammed right away. Bit harsh I found that.

I think the 100 kb rule is wise and should stay, sometimes it’s annoying to view pages filled with images so large that would even lag users with very fast connection.

It’s better to post medium size thumbnails and if the viewer interested in it he just can click on it and view it on some external site.

Since bandwidth is an issue here also… I think that rule still needed.

Is it really that important?

I mean, I've posted screenshots too... All you have to do is resize it/lower the quality to fit the proper size.

And you can get great quality with a good enough resolution for 100kb.

You can always put a low-res on topic with a link to a high-res...

And I sympathise with Balschoiw, just because I love his avatar.

My 2 cents wink_o.gif

Personally, I don't agree with the rule, but I do obey it.

Quote[/b] ]With which moderator do I need to talk when I want my uuugly WL thingy removed. Ive still got some time on it though.

The last time I asked this I was given a 24 hr PR due to some silly circumstances following my asking. I think ive done my time as the original WL was just for a pic of the iraqi info minister in the first place. I dont see the person who gave it to me around but would like to have this WL removed...and if possible, without the 24 hr PR this time.

EDIT: My WL was from Feb. 02 2007. Time served?

Ive learned my lesson and as well have turned over a new leaf from such terrible things as posting a pic that was under the 100kb rule but must have caught a mod on a bad day or something.

The last "incident" with you was back in June as you decided to have that crappy signature image. There were no other incidents since that so yep I think we can fulfil that wish. tounge2.gif

However, I think it was told more then once to PM a moderator with this request rather then posting here.

Well it was originally intended to be a comment and turned into a full blown request.

That sig was awesome for your info. No appreciation for art.  whistle.gif

Of course there were no other incidents, im a perfect example of model forum behaviour.   smile_o.gif

Anyways, thanks for the WL removal.

Hi moddies

Today I posted in the 2008 US Depression thread an article that I think is so stunning and frightening that it perhaps deserves a thread all of its own.

This was an almost missed news report where Saudi King Abdullah Dropped the Quiet Bombshell of announcing 'practical peak oil.'

Do you like I, think there is need for this to have a separate thread?

Kind Regards walker

If someone wants to post a large picture they can easily create a 100kb clickable thumbnail, or as some are doing they can use their 6x100kb allowance to make a split image, personally I don't have a problem with that if people are so anally obsessed with showing their images in such quality they want to waste their time splitting it into multiple parts, uploading and hotlinking smile_o.gif

Hi Placebo, the Problem with your suggestion regarding the "clickable thumbnails" is, that it simply don't work HERE for the major picture-hosters (like Imageshack).

Thats because of this very old (from "pre-dotcom bubble-burst" ages) and crappy Forum-Software you are using here, a upgrade would be highly appreciated by everyone i guess...

Simplemachines-Forum for instance is a very great, high performance and free Forums Software and it seems to be un-hackable (im using it since YabbSE ages in 2001 and have also Programmed a few mods for SMF)

There is also a very easy to use converter for the database to upgrade from Ikonboard.

Best Regards, Christian

And what is your question exactly?

We are aware that the forum software is ancient, buggy and not state-of-the-art.

You got me on this one.... tounge2.gifwink_o.gif

Well then my questions could be:

When do you upgrade the Forums Software?

or

When will it be possible to post thumbnail pictures here? (there must be a mod/fix/hack for that)

Because Placebo said we should post thumbnails instead of pictures, which is of course not possible....

What on earth are you talking about?

Of course it is possible, you just have to NOT be lazy about it...

People post thumbnails ALL the time, I shall do so to proove a point:

(Image "stolen" shamelessly from the arma.com website)

Sure it cant be a clickable thumbnail from sites like imageshack, but its still a thumbnail...

Ohh come on, i don't want to fight with you guys...

Fact is, that you can't post clickable ones...

And non-clickable ones are a pain to post, as soon if they are more than 1 and you want them in one row...

I made the experience over here:

My Post

So its not THE SOLUTION, its a odd workaround of something which is working normally everywhere else...

Ok, DM? biggrin_o.gif

What's wrong with this?

For every problem there's a simple solution, if you care enough about the problem you can find it.......

1. Don't quote images.

2. If you use imageshack, you can use the thumbnail link they provide once the picture is uploaded.

Look at the URL, it's simple, I put the thumbnail on tinypic.com which gives it a short URL and thus works fine in these forums. And before you whine about 12 seconds extra work, if the pic is so important to you that you must have a clickable thumbnail then it's worth an extra few seconds http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif' alt='wink_o.gif'>

I would say it is a shame for this forum team to allow propagandists to use it as an open tribune to spread their propaganda, their lies and their bullshit, hoping to catch the attention of the uneducated people that could then believe their shit.

Saying mass murdering purges "are necessary" is just another example of this insanity allowed on those boards.

And people got post restricted because of screenshot too large...

D@nte, Sanctuary

From where this quote from spokesperson is? Instead of complaining here you could use the "report to moderator" link below each post.

None of us moddies is a visionary, and our job is not "search the thread by keywords". Also BIS refuses to equip us with crystal balls :P

So when you complain about something, be it here or by PM, please provide us with a link to the thread in question. And like said there is a RTM link below each post you can use and is way more effective then posting here.
