smiley nick 51 Posted January 5, 2007                Welcome to the Lost World Returns Modification www.lostworldreturns.co.uk[/b]"]www.lostworldreturns.co.uk    Who are we? We are a online development team working on a new and refreshing modification for the game "Armed Assault". We have been 'modding' for in general for over 4 years, however work on our new next-gen project only started 16 months ago. We have a outstanding mix of global based individuals in all corners of the globe, including some individuals who are in the industry by profession including locations at  MTV studios in Germany, The Chez Republic and the History channel in the United States. Our goal is to bring something to the table that has been lacking since 1991, and that’s dinosaurs and man in a virtual world with the latest next gen engine and technology.      Concept The concept is simple: A realistic military FPS, with dinosaurs thrown into the mix. Featuring the most precedented and realistic behavioural system every seen for a game. Forget the scripted pathways and invisible walls! You will get to experience the real taste of freedom, where nature really does find a way. Lost World Returns brings to you meticulously detailed and life like dinosaurs and environments, with a rich character driven story that will have you gagging for more. Just like you, the creatures and other humans are only programmed to survive in this roaming in a self-sufficient, observable environment. Will you have what it takes to survive in this amazing new world? ‘Armed Assault’ meets ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ The game will be distributed via an online ‘Free ware’ download and also via a free postal service for those with poor internet access. No money will be made from this game modification.      Story The incident at "Site A" two years ago had been a disaster for John Hammond and International Genetics Inc. The company was all but bankrupt as its European and Far Eastern investors one by one accepted their losses and withdrew. The animals had been destroyed by the Costa Rican army and, as bankruptcy proceedings and litigation dragged out to months then years, the company's facilities and equipment at "Site A" had been sequestered and allowed to become derelict. The remoteness of the location prevented casual visitors, and gradually the incident and the existence of "Site A" faded from the spotlight of publicity. Only a wealthy Japanese consortium, named Idehama (logistics), one of the principal early investors in InGen, still supported Hammond.Perhaps motivated by the possibility of access to the company's cutting edge biotechnology, but still firmly behind the venture, although less conspicuously so after the downturn in the company's fortunes. InGen and it's Japanese investors now have a plan to clandestinely visit "Site A" in an effort to retrieve materials and technology with a view to reviving InGen and its projects, but more importantly documenting the island, with a hope for possible life on the island. As a world famous bio technician you have been invited to join the first expedition to return to "Site A", with a small team of researchers and mercenary units. To collect information, and gather data, and then present your findings to InGen and Idehama to allow them to "finalize" their future projects. Since the disaster two years ago, the company's facilities were abandoned and the island has been left to natures devices for the last two years. No-one knows what you may find there.   Game Overview Lost World Returns is a first person adventure simulation featuring a refreshing mix of modern realistic warfare with an elegant and dynamic eco system of prehistoric dinosaurs, set on a vast island roughly 25km2, with full free-roaming capabilities for the majority of the time. The game is set in the universe of the Jurassic Park era, but not directly following or copying the theme or objects; thus allowing freedom of choice and larger development options to enrich the story. However, the player will feel very much a part of the whole Jurassic Park universe and will feel right at home with the movies. © 2007 Lost World: Returns. quicksand 0 Posted January 5, 2007 I must say that it never ceases to amaze me how much a single feature such as bump mapping has added graphicly from Operation Flashpoint. It looks terrific and it proves the flexibility OF theme-wise is still there. Do you plan on making a preisthoric map or place the dinosaurs in the present because I think setting it in the past would be much more interesting. In any case good luck with your endevour,I will be watching out for this mod.

smiley nick 51 Posted January 5, 2007 Thanks for the supportive comments As for getting them into game, they have all been set up in o2, and we are just using a simple object cfg, but when the tools come out, they will come alive with all the extra features we can implement in the new o2 and not forgetting the animations which will be a very important aspect to include to make it believable For a added note, a website is currently being designed by gYMO and the forums are all set up, but are not public yet. But we have had a lot of input from "outsiders" as i wanted to try and tell people about this fantastic game and what people can do with it, so we have some support from another Jurassic park community who where pretty happy to see the work we have been doing As we all know dinosaurs are soooo cool :P Nick
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted January 5, 2007 I am most interested in the "ecological simulation" you are promising. Can you tell us how detailed this will be? Â For example, you have a Tyrannosaurid and a Spinosaurus in those images. Both were apex predators, but they occupied different ecological niches (and lived at different times in reality but, OK, this is Jurassic Park). Will your simulation be that detailed? I'd actually be quite interested in helping out with that in some capacity if you're going to do it thoroughly.

Col. Faulkner 0 Posted January 5, 2007 If you made a "prehistoric" island then at least it'd solve the dreaded ArmA grass problem!
simba 0 Posted January 5, 2007 Looks very good but I wonder , did you use normal mapping for your textures or not , because dinausors seem to be a little out of place ? can't wait for the release

I'd actually be quite interested in helping out with that in some capacity if you're going to do it thoroughly. Thankyou for your good question! From the outset, people should remember this this "based" on the jurassic park ideology, thus meaning that the dinosaurs present where genetically manufactured to provide a level of entertainment. Saying that you might find some dinosaurs that our out of the time period but we are going to keep things as true to form as we can, mainly featuring dinosaurs from the Triassic,Jurassic and cretaceous period. There will be a large mixture of dinosaurs with "similar" classes to keep it nice and balanced. And t-rex and spinosarus arnt going to be the only boys in town Regarding the Eco system, all depending on our manpower and scripting capabilities im pretty confident it can be done, i have met some good friends over the years (most are scripters) and are willing to help out if they can. Its just a case of really thinking about it all and writing up the documentation to follow. But it will be as simple as possible to keep it balanced, but you can expect so see the basic preaditory and herbivore actions, grazing, feeding, attacking younger dinosaurs, defending, as well as smaller insects. Not to mention day and night cycles that will effect their behavior, and yes herbivores WILL attack you if they feel threatened, no more of this "its ok its only a herbivore" EDIT The dinosaurs do not yet have bump map or uv map, so they might look out of place, we do have the maps done, we just need the tools to get them working
Borg 0 Posted January 5, 2007 THIS mod, will rock ! Just wishing i could get my ArmA now ! This mod could be very amazing do play, just to drive around and look at the dinosaurs, but in all the peace, realise a big dinosaur is coming at your six, and have to step on the gas ! Must be truly EXCITING to play on "coop". You know, try to survive them, and just some few places on the map with guns (a small ammount with weapons and ammo, so not everyone will be able to get at gun to defend themselves, almost like a horror/survival mod , that would be perfect ! Blue_Flight 0 Posted January 5, 2007 I will for sure follow this mod with huge interest as it was always something which interests me in my life. So i wish you all the best with this project

teaser 0 Posted January 8, 2007 whoahhh i feel like you guys with a bigger team can become as rich as microsoft with their halo. hahaha, you can even create your own game based on the armA engine. im glad to hear about this mod, PM me if you want me to test, and i have also a lot of ideas, so if you need me, and need some ideas, just pm me =D
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Most defiantly, we are planning two main islands, Isla Nebula and Isla Sorna. Nublar mate... Nublar... not Nebula If they're trying to be faithful to the Crichton books then "Isla Nublar" is correct, Dr. Malcolm is right (and not "anal" at all). I wasn't able to ascertain if "Isla Nebula" is a new creation of theirs or just Smiley's idiosyncratic spelling again. Or maybe that's why they are so "defiant"? Regarding that quote, that would be a lovely idea, but i don't think its possible, due to the fact the engine is owned by BIS, and the fact we are all on standard wages, we couldn't even begin to afford to get the rights to use it to sell as a standalone game. Apoligise for the spelling error, Ian is right @borg yes im glad you also see the potential , MP will be a very fun and exciting and scary experience , with JIP, you could have a very nice rpg game. Not a lot to show at the moment, just getting the website sorted. Nick
